  1. AMD Announces their GameWorks Equivalent

    Applaud, great news!
  2. computerbaseDirt Rally Benchmark

Ultimately, the market decides, rightly or wrongly.
  3. computerbaseDirt Rally Benchmark

So what's your plan? What's your constructive criticism? Constructive criticism Nvidia: I would like to see the game work features more open, like they did with CPU physx, to improve adoption. Constructive criticism Amd: I would like to see them innovate more and improve the...
  4. computerbaseDirt Rally Benchmark

They offer sweet features in a unideal multi-platform world. They may not be the sweetest or ideal, but some don't allow idealism to be the enemy of good.
  5. computerbaseDirt Rally Benchmark

Since when is having more choices a bad thing? I can simply turn the feature off, problem solved.
  6. [GamersNexus] Asetek Demands AMD Cease Sales of Fury X on Infringement Claims

I surely didn't make the decision to outsource a third party cooler and sell it as innovation, vocal advocates and AMD did.
  7. [GamersNexus] Asetek Demands AMD Cease Sales of Fury X on Infringement Claims

I never understood the vocal advocates for a reference water cool design especially a third party design to boot. Spinning this as innovation and moving forward. This isn't surprising from asetech.
  8. Scott Wasson on his way to AMD

If anything, Scott's testing changed the way sites investigated the performance. It was welcomed, needed, and pushed testing evaluations forward. I like what I'm seeing from AMD, going beyond just numbers and concentrating on a quality experience to go along with world class performance.
  9. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

Nvidia has to make GFE easy to use, convenient to use, and continue to innovate features to bring value to GFE. If Nvidia does these facets, then the gamer may not mind the hassle of giving an email address. Time will tell how GFE evolves.
  10. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

It's already happened. There is a premium built-in when purchasing a Nvidia product. The reason why Nvidia invests in the software and features is the market may reward them with more premiums and higher margins, imho.
  11. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

I realize this may be semantics, but the market already tolerates it by paying more for the Nvidia brand name which is a combination of hardware and software, the Nvidia ecosystem. The investments in software have helped their overall margins.
  12. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

One may have to offer some serious, compelling reasons to charge even more for drivers and abilities than there is. Gamers are already paying more of a premium now, over-all, for the nVidia ecosystem and nVidia is enjoying record revenue.
  13. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

Ease of use, defined as making it easier to improve the experience for their customers. Value, defined as to continue to innovate and offer features that improve the experience. If Nvidia continues to build upon these two facets, people may not mind giving up an email address to have the...
  14. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

Pretty simple -- ease of use and value.
  15. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

It only works if nVidia continues to invest and innovate the experience and worth the modest hassle.
  16. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

Frankly, don't understand the extremism against and the rally cry for privacy on forums, when one has to give e-mails and data to sign up on forums.
  17. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

From a tweaker point-of-view; as long as things are compatible to nVinspector -- I'm all for tools to simplify and enhance the gaming experience for PC gamers. I would like to see the NVCP incorporated into the GeForce Experience tool.
  18. [Ars] Should we be required to create an account to get drivers?

It bothers me as much as it bothers me to sign in at a forum to post. I do like the investments in the tool though and continues to build on the nV ecosystem with more reasons to go nVidia.
  19. What was your first GPU ever?

Very first video card: Matrox Millennium First 3d accelerated video card: Matrox Mystique First 3dfx card: The original Voodoo First nVidia card: Tnt First GPU: GeForce 256 DDR First ATI card/GPU: Radeon 64 vivo. First 3d accelerated game: Tomb Raider
  20. Which approach to graphics features is better for gamers

Ideally, it would be nice if nVidia opened up more to increase adoption for their innovation, neat tech/features, but on the other side of the coin, they're a corporation that has to answer to the bottom line, their employees and shareholders. The key to the importance of these abilities is it...
  21. Which approach to graphics features is better for gamers

    Thanks, was curious about this.
  22. Why Gameworks is detrimental to Pc Gaming

What is detrimental to PC gaming is waiting for others to do the work and being reactionary.
  23. [GameGPU] ARK: Survival Evolved, GameWorks

Thanks for the link OP; I didn't know the developer may add nVidia Turf Effects and WaveWorks. Neat!
  24. From a 780ti to a 980ti, worth it?

The GTX 980 did shake up the 550 MSRP price-point and forced AMD to drop down to compete. Obviously, the GTX 970 was more of a value offering and really helped redefine price/performance strongly when launched. I would say the GM-204 derivatives were/are very disruptive -- garnering compelling...
  25. If Fury is overpriced, why is a $1000 Titan-X acceptable?

Indeed! No one I read is strongly defending or recommending the TItan X - and don't understand the logic of this thread. The reason, to me, for some forum disappointment isn't blatant double standards but AMD didn't deliver enough based on the hype of HBM. This hurts their branding and how...
  26. If Fury is overpriced, why is a $1000 Titan-X acceptable?

I haven't read any posts recommending strongly the Titan X and ironically I read that the Titan X is overpriced, specifically when compared to the GTX 980ti. The AMD Fury has exotic cooling, HBM, was suppose to be worth the wait, and yet doesn't out perform a cut down GM-100 core over-all...
  27. How/why did Amd/ATI fall behind Nvidia?

Maybe the future is GPUs with a CPU attached. I'm just playing around.
  28. GTX 980Ti finally launched - MSRP $649 - Reviews

To place things in a different perspective and how the market has changed - cut down GF-110 cores were introduced as little as 289 dollars -- now, cut down bigger dies are launching, as value by some at 650 dollars.
  29. GTX 980Ti finally launched - MSRP $649 - Reviews

It's a similar strategy with pricing that nVidia did use with the initial Titan and subsequent GTX 780 --- bringing in revenue, while keeping margins strong for GK-104 derivatives -- and the GTX 780 was hailed as value as well.
  30. GTX 980Ti finally launched - MSRP $649 - Reviews

imho, Titan X is more-so a Halo sku and to create revenue for ultra early adopters but also priced higher so it doesn't cannibalize lesser price-points and to keep margins strong for lesser offering, particularly GM-104 derivatives. TitanX has done such an outstanding job -- that a 650 dollar...
  31. How/why did Amd/ATI fall behind Nvidia?

Imho, The APU was AMD's future but it may be the reason for its demise. It was the product that was going to differentiate and lead the way but sadly hasn't come to fruition. The focus and resources spent here without garnering substantial rewards has hurt the company. Simply put: I...
  32. Those of you who use AMDs VSR with 120+ Hz monitors

    THat's not true -- can use 4k at 120hz!
  33. Geforce Experience and Gaming Evolved is a chilling reminder of where gaming is going

That's a valid concern if developers removed the ability to change settings but don't see that happening based on the wide range of PC systems -- from ultra to very low budget systems. I enjoy tweaking to find the right balance of image quality and immersion for my subjective tastes, thresholds...
  34. Geforce Experience and Gaming Evolved is a chilling reminder of where gaming is going

I don't understand! Chilling reminder? You have more choices, options and flexibility to play your titles -- you're not forced to use the settings in GeForce Experience and can still tweak yourself. Having the option for GE is primarily for the gamers that desire a more easier method to...
  35. Nvidia DX12 tech demo Mech Ti

May expect these abilities in a Gameworks' library/middleware one may imagine.
  36. GTX 980Ti finally launched - MSRP $649 - Reviews

That's why for overclocking enthusiasts that demand more ideal temperatures and acoustics, AIB's offer differentiation choices and nothing new.
  37. [Forbes] AMD Is Wrong About 'The Witcher 3' And Nvidia's HairWorks

One can tweak the tessellation MSAA,2,4,8 or disable the tessellation MSAA --- you have the ability to turn off HairWorks, enable Geralt or All.
  38. [Forbes] AMD Is Wrong About 'The Witcher 3' And Nvidia's HairWorks

Tom Petersen touched on Witcher 3's tessellation; tessellation is an incredibly complicated science, not just the scale factor, right, tessellation factor is used for how many hairs per inch , right, and how many curves per hair, is the water different from the hair on the animal, what about...
