I'll second WT. I'm also an admin over at Cains Lair. If you care to shoot me your steam i.d. and name you where using at the time of the kick i'll look it up in our records and see what the exact reason was. All of the admins at Cains Lair are required to make detailed reports of all...

New Build. Do I need to upgrade my power supply?

Keep in mind that most PSU's are rated for peach loads for a short amount of time... so that 430W wouldn't be constant... I've always considered the "true rating" of a PSU to be about 75% of what it's rated for... so 75% fo 430 would be...322.5W... Now, are the numbers you provided under load...

My main concern would be when you throw that 9800 into the mix... Untill then you should be ok though.

With that GPU thrown into the mix, and the fact that it doesn't have a 8pin on it... I would say get a new one. Nothing more then a 600w though as anything more would be complete and utter overkill. At least with a 600w you should be good for awhile.... Although, how old is that PSU? Does it...

Help. My I think my video card died....

Wonder if I need to register my 8800GTS that I got from BFGtech awhile ago. lol. Although i've had no problems with it so far *Knock on wood*.

Tried Nvidia once, formatted, everything is good now

See, this is interesting as i've never had luck with ASUS but my gigabyte board has been wonderful. Guess this just goes to drive my earlier point home even further. lol.

Trying to OC an AMD 6000+ dual core

Didn't see this untill just now... The stock voltage for the AMD 6000+ and AMD 6400+ is already 1.500v. Interesting that it would cap out at 1.550v.

But isn't an AMD 6000+ and an AMD 6400+ basically the same chip with different steppings? I mean, there's only a 200MHZ difference between them, no change in L2 cache, or voltage requirements IIRC. If this is the case then shouldn't this chip be able to do 3.3 with some voltage modifications?

Trying to OC an AMD 6000+ dual core

Correction... the MoBo is a Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H... Just out of curiosity... does anybody know what that MoBo's Bios caps out the voltage at? Last MoBo I had I couldn't get it to do above 1.5v no matter what I tried. If I can get this one to do above 1.5v then I may have a chance on this OC...

Ok, so i've got an AMD 6000+ dual core sitting on a Gigabyte GA-MA69VS-S2. I've lowered by DDR2 speeds to 667 instead of 800 (default for my ram), Changes FSB from 15x200 to 15x215, stepped of course letting each 5 extra FSB "burn in" for 2-3 days before stepping up another 5... so started off...

Intel drops 2.5% marketshare to AMD

curious... has HP improved as well? If so then this would explain the jump for AMD as AMD processors are used in HP desktops. Oh, and i'll also hint that there is a DoD agency that has a contract with HP right now and is using AMD processors (phenom II's...) Edit: Addition.... AMD's increase...

Any bottlenecks?

I will most likely have troubles down the road when I get that Acer 19" wide, plus the upgrade bug... so it's a little of both... Then again I may just hold off for another year if I can and do a good upgrade. You know, CPU, Mobo, GPU.

What to upgrade.....it's been too long

Honestly... For gaming... CPu and Vid card... I'm about to make a similar upgrade myself. I'm going to be looking at a quad core AMD (not sure which, but this is a year out), and whatever a decent video card in about a year will be. Right now though I would say your video card is holding you...

Actually... Try 1280x1024 (17" crt to soon be replace with a 19" Acer wide... 1440x600 natives res).

Does a hard drive clicking always mean doom?

No joke.. heed the warnings above! I've actually had a older harddrive start clicking.... and then a small pin inside droped. Upon further investigation I found out that the clicking was actually that small pin starting to come loose. Worse then nails on a chalkboard!

Random hard lockups - I give up!

Random eh? Nothing is ever truely random... Something is causing these events... Ok, have you completely reseated everything? New cables both inside and out? Still sounds like a CPU problem....but I wouldn't quite rull out something as simple as a faulty power cable..

K, I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU.... Currently i'm running on an 8800GTS (640mb) and want to grab something a little better. I'm thinking about a 260-280 from BFGtech, but i'm concerned that my CPU may end up holding me back... Anybody? 6000+ x2 (Stock 3.095ghz OC'd to 3.2) gigabyte...

Recommend me a CPU HSF

Well.... I'm running close to you... Here's my specs and what I use to cool that CPU down with.. Gigabyte GA-MA69VS-S2 MoBo AMD 6000+ x2 running @ 3.2ghz (OC'd) 2x1gb Corsair DDR2 800 running at 667 (slower speed increased stability) BFGtech 8800GTS 640mb running stock 750W Thermaltake...
