    Question PWM Max Fan Speeds

Edit - Sorry I guess I got confused by the 120mm high speed fans I just installed on my radiator being 2200 rpm, but my case fans are 1600 rpm. Also forgot that two of the 140s are not high speed. So it's all solved now :) Hi Guys, I used to be pretty active in these computer forums, but I...

Question about focus and AF points

Remember the center of the lens is always going to be more sharp than the rest of the image. She looks plenty sharp but maybe a slight overexposure of the skin combined with not being in the center is making you think she's out of focus.

File timestamps on my pictures make zero sense, how do I fix this?

Did you set the date/time in the camera's settings? Does this setting persist through replacing the battery? There is a tiny battery inside the camera usually to keep the time, but this battery could be dead in yours. I think the main battery is supposed to charge that up when it can though.

Video - part 2. Why is my iPhone so much better at stabilization?

I'm guessing one reason is that the sensor is so much smaller so any mechanical stabilization system doesn't have to move as much to compensate for hand shake. Phones also have more sensors, like accelerometers, that could help in any stabilization algorithm.

Question how to get good night videos from dslr?

A sample video of yours showing the poor quality would help identify the problem.

Question how to get good night videos from dslr?

Are you looking at comparable lighting scenarios? Just because they're both night time doesn't mean the ambient light from lamps/other artificial lighting isn't comparable. A lamp pointed in the right direction makes such a huge difference at night.

Question Need Recommendations for Budget Camera

This is a pretty common question so poke around the past threads or search the forum for more info, but the general answer is you won't find anything with that budget that will beat a phone camera handily. You might be able to get close to that by going the used or refurbished route. Check out...

DSLR Lens Recommnedations for Nikon - Looking to go Prime Only

The 85mm f/1.8g is an amazing lens and also quite affordable. The 105 macro is also a great lens, but one thing to keep in mind with that lens is that the maximum aperture gets smaller at closer focusing distances. This always bugged me when trying to shoot in manual mode as your exposure...

    Adobe's CC Photographer's Plan?

I've been on the CC photographer's plan since CC came about, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. They update things all the time and are constantly adding new features. The coolest thing is you get access to the Lightroom mobile app which is seriously impressive and capable...

why do i have such poor cam picture quality from my new webcam?

It's all about light. No webcam is good at night with no lights on. Sit next to a window during the day or point some lamps at yourself and place them close by.

    Does anyone use analog camera?

Allllright you got me - what do you consider the pinnacle of film cameras?

For the average person, is there really a need for a dedicated camera anymore?

This^^. If you're too bothered to bring your camera out, then you're not that into photography. Also, wanting to capture random snapshots on your phone does not mean you are into photography.

    Does anyone use analog camera?

I feel like we're missing the point here talking about convenience and how long the process takes for film vs digital. That's like asking why people cook food themselves when they can buy at a restaurant or why buy all the ingredients to cook something when you can get premade meals to just...

    Does anyone use analog camera?

Aw why not? I feel like the mystery of what's on that roll is worth the 8ish dollar developing fee.
  16. S

    Does anyone use analog camera?

I shot about 50 rolls last year. I try to do a roll or two per shoot. It's a great change of pace from digital, and the photos definitely have their own style to them. Digital raws are so flat and neutral that it's hard to know where you want to go with those files, but seeing the film scans...

Help me decide which lens I should buy next

Here's something you can do to help you gain more insight into your current tendencies with the 24-105mm - sort through all your current photos and see what focal length you've taken most of your photos at. You can do this easily in Lightroom, and Windows Explorer can do it too if you have jpegs...

    Lens choice for Nikon d5300

Oh I didn't realize you were wanting to do astrophotography for this lens. Typically "low light" means big apertures to avoid long shutter speeds that cause blurry photos when handheld. For astrophotography where you're on a tripod, this is less of a concern. However, in my limited experience...

Help me decide which lens I should buy next

Man those focal lengths are all over the place. All 4 of those options together would basically be a complete kit that could shoot almost anything. Since you mentioned specifically events and landscapes, I'd say the 16-35 is the only one that fits that bill. It depends on how you like to shoot...

What is the best current 4k camera system on the market

I've seen a few of these threads moved to the Digital and Video Camera section, but I really wouldn't consider this the proper forum for these threads. I think the people who normally go to this forum are photographers and videographers, not security system people or people who would have any...

Need for a new hardware forum -- "security, surveillance etc."; Today: Internal vs external cameras

I second the suggestion to create a new forum for this stuff. So far security camera questions have been sent to the Digital Video and Camera forum where nobody knows about security cameras since they are nowhere near similar things as regular consumer creative cameras to be interested in.

    Lens choice for Nikon d5300

I wouldn't consider an f/2.8 good for low light. The 35mm f/1.8g is the best value prime and was definitely the best 2nd lens after the kit lens I could have imagined when I first started out with a D5100. However, the 35mm on crop sensor ends up being pretty zoomed in, and you mentioned you...

Please recommend a noob friendly camera

Everything CuriousMike and everyone else has said has been on point. The only thing I want to add is a response to your question of why are lenses so expensive compared to camera bodies. The thing about lenses is that they are updated far less frequently. Good glass can be used for years...

    Is DSLR dying slowly?

That highly depends on what you're shooting. I do mainly portraits and use a 50mm 95% of the time.
  27. S

    Is DSLR dying slowly?

It's hard to compare film to digital. In the film days, improvements in film could be taken advantage of by older cameras. That's where Nikon and Canon became more of lens sellers than camera body sellers. You can still today take any old film camera and pair it with a nice lens and get amazing...

What camera is good for filming microscope objects?

There are microscope attachments that have standard mounts for cameras such as Nikon F mount or Canon mount. This will let you take a Nikon DSLR and mount it to your microscope to take pictures with. I don't know much details though. Google is your friend.

    Is DSLR dying slowly?

Yep Anubis is right. It is a common misconception that smartphones have killed the DSLR. They killed the cheap pocket point and shoot camera market. I think we're at a point now where smartphones are driving certain people to bigger cameras. People get a taste for photography on their phones...

requirements for a computer to use Lightroom

Try disabling graphics acceleration if you're having problems. It's bugged for certain hardware and slows things down like crazy. My first timelapse dusk-night timelapse. Disappointment.

Not bad! The moving stars are pretty awesome. The most distracting part was the frames that had lens flare in them from I'm guessing car lights?

How serious should I get about my PC display and its calibration?

Taking a time lapse that goes from day to night or vise versa?

I believe there are timelapse controllers that you attach to DSLRs that do something like this for you. Check out the Promote Control - I'm fully sure it adjusts exposure, but I don't see why it couldn't.

so many nice choices for tiny/lightweight dslr now!

You might check out the Sony RX100 as well. Smaller so you won't need as serious of a gimbal, and it takes great video. The main downside is so external mix input (I think).

A little more on my astrophotography

Wow that's crazy. The t-stop on that 14mm must be higher than 2.8. So with pano'ing and stitching, you don't run into issues with the stars moving over time? I haven't done much astro, but there's a point the stars turn into light streaks due to the movement of the stars. I guess that's in...
