    ah ha ! cross-over cable, that's what i was missing. i couldn't get the darn thing to work, had the ip's configured right but it wouldn't ping out of the router .. i was just using a regular patch cable. thanks guys!! excellent. any idea why it's a cross-over instead of a regular?
