Yeah its the same for me. If I found a z68 for $20 less than a 77, I couldn't justify that $20.
Basically going as low as possible to get the intel working. Then maybe Id upgrade the mobo in a couple years to get a 5Ghz+ OC out of it from homefully at least 4. Found a z77 for $50 that wasnt...
You say this like "SSD" is a brand name or a model type. Strange.
SSDs have wildly varying degrees of reliability. This one is a lemon. They arnt all the same.
The 2500K is the best performance per $ per core out there followed closely by the 3750K, regardless of it being old tech. The difference between the 68 and 77 seem to be minimal and allow me to weigh the want for something like USB3 PCIe3 and ssdcacheing (none of witch I use) against the...
Background; coming from a AMD 965BE, and the per processor performance is limiting my 460GTX in some games I play often. As in 20fps when I could be getting 40+ (gpu use is at 45% as the CPU is maxed). I am looking for a very cheap boost into an i5. I think I can get a 2500k for roughly 125-135...
Thank you for clearing this up!
I should mention that Im going for a i2500k. Im unsure if Ill find a z77(or z75), and if a z68 comes my way for exceptionally cheap without bursting into flames too often Id like to weigh the pros and cons. My budget is $200 firm max so I may have to make...
Do you mean Sata 3.0 (6Gb/s)? Or is this something newer, because they both have that? AFAIK z68 has IB support with bios updates pretty standard. USB/PCIe 3 might come in handy in the future..
Are those all the differences?
Thats not how I go about buying new things (nor should anyone). I...
I have a 965BE OCed to 3.8Ghz and I can say with educated and researched certainty that you do not know what youre talking about.
Cheap? yes. Powerful? ... Maybe 5 years ago.
Do NOT go with this chip unless you are very poor or just plain daft. There are intel chips even cheaper than the...
Even a 2500K is going to kick a 83xx s ass in most areas.
Unless you're running a special setup, like you need a VM to run on each core, or you have constant things running that make a NEED for more than 4 cores, you will almost always get better performance even out of a 2500K let alone the...
So I have the option of a Microcenter in the next month. However the CPU/Mobo combos are limited and I want to try to stay under 260 pre tax.
http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx
If you were put in my situation, what would be the combo you would go with and why...
Thanks Belial88. I appreciate the insight. Knowing more intimate details like that will make it easier to spend the extra $ if I go Z7x. Do they have a Z75 version?
Ive been a BIOS OCer for years, but recently I've wanted to delve into software overclocking and core/thread management. Being certain things only used a limited number of cores, and I can get a better OC if I OC 2 cores instead of all.
I started off using AMD Overdrive, but frankly this...
I dont need it to "die". I need people to actually bother to read (and several actually have, thanks again dudes for being literate). If you dont want to read, then thats fine, if you have no real want to put effort into relevant feedback then thats fine too. Just dont post? Im not looking for...
tential already said it, but OC is desired, but it isnt a priority. Just an option for the future when I get a AM cooler. I dont have to have everything all at once. Even without the Microcenter I have found a few options to do this under 300.
Thanks for these links Ill look through them :)...
I do not think that's a wise way to go about it. I too look at user reviews, but only after looking at benchmarks. Why? Because no amount of "This CPU is sooo cool and overclocks niceee" reviews are going to make framerates go higher on an inferior architecture. There are tons of people happy...
But it *isnt* the best buy for 4 core. For more than four cores, yes. Not at four. Thats the whole point.
Dont kid myself? The only kidding myself ive been doing is thinking games would magically start being 6-8 threaded. They arnt and wont be for years. Im not going to sit waiting for that...
Its not the im not interested in AMD, Im simply not interested in a pointless upgrade. I appreciate the more mature attitude regardless. I think youre coming at this at the angle of going from Zero->CPU/Mobo when that's not the case. I currently own a PhenomII 965BE that is capable of 4Ghz on...
This is close to one of my current options. Im taking my time though, as the jump to 3750K not only give me 7% ~ better performance, but it would pay for the difference itself after a year from lower power needs. Im hoping it comes down a bit over the next month. They are going for roughly 150$...
So you are trolling. Sad for you. Now stop putting words in my mouth. I never said I wanted more than a 3750 and Im even considering as low as 2500k+68z. There is no way id go i3 whern I can have i5 for under 300 new let alone used. Youve been proven wrong, why are you here acting like a angry...
Uh, thats intentionally harm in my mind. I (and thousands of others) come to sites like this for informed information, not a sales pitch from fanboys, ya know? Its very misleading, and they are consciously doing the leading.
Unless youre willing to OC the FX to 5Ghz its going to lag high CPU demand low threaded games. And even at 5Ghz it would bottleneck my three generation old GPU in FTB Minecraft. As a gamer, unless your taste for gaming is very limited to the few games that actually thread past 4 cores (and by...
4.5 is more than I'd expect so aftermarket air would be my next buy. :) How is the stock cooler on the i5 2nd and 3rd gens? I may go 2500K if it OCs better on stock air than the 3570K, but Id expect that to be the other way around?
Thanks for the input.
My point is depending on how far back you go, one person would need to know far far more than EE to build a chip. If they are simply using ready-made tools to piece it together then it becomes orders or magnitude easier (but still exceptionally skilled) to build even a simple imitation...
Knowing how it works isnt the hard part.
Knowing how to build one is the hard part.
No one alive has all that information in their head. You would need to go very far back to the basics of things like smelting metals and have a deep understanding of chemistry far FAR before you even get to the...
Yes, I dont think Ill use ebay for mobo. Either here or more likely Amazon used. However even new is an option, Im seeing some good ones for well under 100. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157304
I understand about AMD. I went into getting the 965BE with the same logic. Big mistake. If I went 8350 tomorrow i'd gain literally no framerate and be out $180. While with even a 2500K id see 50-75% higher frames in CPU intensive gaming.
965 vs FX8350...
Im finding a lot of 2500/3570 for <$150 on ebay. I might do that if I find someone with a good seller rating and I can make sure the chip actually works. A 2500k would be a huge upgrade from a 965BE. My C3 only OCs to 3.9 and Im betting even with a 80$ Z75/77 a i5 will get to at least 4.2. If I...
