Oh, I didn't see that OP already mentioned BackBlaze. Seagate defines the consumer duty cycle as "8 x 5" -- that is, the drive is powered only 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. That seems fairly unlikely for most folks who'd be on this forum.
But that doesn't really have much to do with this...
These drives are infamous. BackBlaze has taken 90% of them out of service: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/3tb-hard-drive-failure/
I own six of these drives and three of them failed within two weeks of each other. There was a manufacturing issue in the 7200.12 generation (and apparently still...

Checked this on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't seem to be advertised anywhere. Solidly $125-$130 elsewhere. Review for those unfamiliar with these Andrew Jones speakers.
MASTERPASS23 works for an extra $8 off. You...
I have you beat by 3 years. In 1985 I had two, count 'em, two 360-KILOBYTE floppy drives. Suddenly I kinda wish I could go back and write a RAID-0 floppy driver for my 11-year-old self...
I think I actually saw that 20MB drive around 1988. It made my head spin seeing twenty million bytes...
Price... and reliability. The MX100 has capacitors for power loss protection. I'll take that any day. The MX100 is already fast enough to run a small company. (Not big enough, but fast enough. :-)
I jumped on one for $120AR a few months ago, not for the speed but for the capacitors. An enterprise SSD without power-loss protection would be a laughingstock, yet barely any consumer SSDs have it, except this one and the Seagate 600 Pro.
Sure, plenty of drives bench faster than the M500...
Sadly, these two things are related. The DOA reviews on Newegg are mostly Newegg's fault, but there are lots of users reporting failures about 7-10 months in. This is a known problem where the heads wear down over time. The less you use the drive, the less the head suffers, hence they will...
Wow, that is a great, great deal. I used to work for a big storage vendor that was involved in the pre-production of the ES.3 drive. It contains a ton of very impressive reliability features (which I'm probably not allowed to disclose), but they were sorely needed because the original...
Missed what? It looks like you can still get the Denon at $899 from Ryther (not an authorized dealer, apparently). The Emotiva deal is still live. Or you can try ajskydiver's suggestion to get 30% off from an authorized dealer, which would be $910.
I took the offer about half a day before the OP. Yes, you shouldn't buy this receiver for $1299. But the street price is just over $1000, excluding eBay sellers. So $899 is a good deal, not an amazing deal.
Today, I do see exactly one shop offering it for $899 straight up, if anyone is...
Activates on Steam, and at $6.66 each means this is about as good a deal as you'd ever see with a Steam sale. Thanks!
Now, with a Steam sale I'd be able to re-gift the games I already have. Anyone know if this is the case here?
Yeah, the raw materials alone make this a good deal. White topaz is normally around $3-5 per carat.
But be aware what you're getting. This deal is nice if you like topaz as a stone (as I do) or birthstone. But aesthetically, white topaz looks a lot like... glass. The item description says...
You're using the wrong word. Whether or not you see it as wrong has no bearing on whether the law sees it as fraud. Long live removing posts that can get Anandtech sued.
Be aware that this is solid-core, not stranded. Good stuff, but it is stiffer than stranded, and also might damage ordinary wire cutters (I learned the hard way).
Seagate drives of the 7200.11, 7200.12, and maybe 7200.13 generations have very serious issues (I mean NDA-level serious, so I can't say much more). The problems don't show up until the drive has been in service for just under a year, though that's for enterprise drives running enterprise...
Did you buy it from the Microcenter? They will price match against their own sales. Six weeks might be too long, but it's worth a try. You won't even need to bring in the CPU, just the receipt.
This was pre-flood, since we get drives for qualification several months before general availability. And this was specifically the Green drives, not the RE drives. We have definitely shipped RE drives in the past.
Tsk, tsk. The difference between anecdotal data vs. real data is not hearsay vs. publication, but statistical significance vs. individual experience. Does your research fail to be real until it's published?
What I offered was the following: one of the largest storage vendors in the world...
The failure rate is real. Anecdotal evidence is fine, but I can supply a real data point: I work for a major SAN vendor, and these failed our qualification tests. Badly. We really hoped to use them, but they were some of the least reliable drives we have ever had in our lab.
And those were...
Also confirmed live in-store, as of Saturday 04/16. It took the sales reps a while to locate the deal, but it was there. The Cambridge, MA location had a dozen CPUs and at least as many boards last night.
Looks like you could even get it for free if you're willing to use Scam Bill Me Later to get $10 off. Didn't try it myself.
The bar is at about 95% right now. I went for the pro version which supports hair and fur.
Be aware that these should be kept far, far away from children. Swallowing a single magnet is perfectly safe. Swallowing two magnets can be fatal. They'll find each other, pinching your intestines shut.

They will, if you're within your 30-day exchange period. I bought a 920 last year for $229 and they credited me the difference when they went on sale for $199. They didn't even ask to see the CPU, just the receipt.
FYI, I just bought one of these a few days ago at their "regular" price of $239.99, and today they were willing to credit me the difference just by presenting the receipt. They didn't even ask for me to bring in the CPU.
Bump. Still $230 at various MicroCenters, in-store only. There are plenty of D0 units at the Cambridge, MA location as of 6/21/2009. Ask for SLBEJ directly, as the rep I talked to thought that SLBCH was the D0 stepping...
