I have a tbird 800 oc to 935 using 8.5x110 and I have 40c under full load for hours! My senser is right next to the core under the heatsink. I was getting 47c under full load using vantec fan w/ normal compound. But now I am using arctic silver and FOP32-1 fan.
I am not EE major, but I know my math.
The point of using a compound is to make the core have the best contact with the heat sink. Too thick of the layer of the compound will result in the heat being trap in between the core and heatsink and not letting the heat to transfure to the heatsink in...
FOP32-1 needs ALOT of force and I WILL possiblily break your core. This is why I take the clip out of the fan and band it down a little before installing.

forget to mention I am also using InWin S500 case with arctic silver compound and FOB32+ fan. this keep my cpu temp to 40c under full load. It used to be 47c using cheap compound and vantech fan.
I got my tbird800 to 935mhz using the pencil trick (normal cheap pencil will work). here are my settings
ASUS A7V with both of the dip switch
micron CAS2 ram under clock to CAS3 in bios
I bridged both L1 and L7 on the chip
set mb to jumperless mode.
fsb is 110 in bios
8.5 clock on the dip...
