I just bought this card to put in a folding rig, and currently have an old Q6600 + socket 775 motherboard laying around that I was planning to use. I believe the motherboard FSB speed is 1066mhz, and the max ram speed is 800mhz. I'm just wondering if this will negatively impact folding...
I just got one of these bad boys for a new Folding@home rig. Apparently they can do close to 100,000ppd. :)

How old is the hardware? I am just getting back into Folding@Home and am looking to build a few cheap machines. Top of the line isn't necessary..as long as the parts work and are newer than 5 years old, they should get some good work done for the project.
Has anyone here tried spreading the "good news" of Folding@Home? I've posted a few basic messages summarizing the effort on some music forums I browse and have gained around 3-4 new full time folders (that I know of). I think if just a fraction of regular folders started making a few mentions of...
Why on earth are the phasing out ANY cards? This doesn't make any sense to me. Why wouldn't they allow all generations to fold? I understand that older-gen cards aren't as efficient as new ones, but they still fold fine, and every point contributed helps the science.
An 8 core CPU and a GPU that does 1.84+ TFLOPS is nothing to sniff at. Multiply it by a few million users and I think it is definitely worth the effort for the F@H team to get it done.
The people working on the folding project considered the PS3 a "game changer" when the Folding@home application was released for the system, and for several years the computational power of PS3 users accounted for the large majority of folding done. So with the significant power boost offered...
A few days ago, Copy.com upped their free storage offer to 15GB (from 7GB).
They don't have a particularly large presence in the mediascape, but they are backed by Barrucuda Networks, which is a large and fairly reputable cloud host.
Apps are available across all major mobile and desktop OS...
VLC player has a nifty feature to speed up movies without changing the pitch, so the voices don't sound like chipmunks despite playing at 120-130% normal speed. I'm looking for any software that will allow me to do this to downloaded videos and save them with the higher playback speed...
AVG Free 2013 (low resource + effective)
Google Chrome (fastest browser by far)
VLC Player (low resource + silky smooth playback on slower systems)
Smart Defrag 2 (awesome program with scheduling, background defrag + page file defrag..features usually only available on paid programs)
Microsoft...
Virtualdub doesnt accept .flv files so I re-encoded it into an AVI. I'm trying to create a brand new video that runs at a higher speed..but when I change the FPS, the video always runs faster than the audio, resulting in them being out of sync. It would be lovely to have a program with a...
I'm trying to reencode an AVI file I downloaded from Youtube to play 20% faster. I've upped the frame rate, but can't figure out how to make the audio speed up to match the video speed. It seems to play at the default speed no matter what, making it impossible to sync with the video. Is there...
Found a great new Jerry Coyne lecture from last month called "Why Evolution is True and Why Many People Still Don't Believe It" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW9G2YVtBYc
If anyone is interested, the hardcover editions of a few evolution books are 60% off on Amazon.

Actually it does. The gospel of Luke traces the genealogy of Jesus all the way back to Adam. The lifespan of each person is also given in the bible and when you add them all up, it turns out that Adam was created in 4004BC. Problem is that we have records of civilization going back much...
Given that a new poll was released last week showing that 46% of Americans believe humans were created in their present form within the past 10,000 years, I figured it would be a good idea to compile a quality list of educational resources on evolution for those interested in learning the...
They also made Virtua Fighter 3 for the Saturn but decided to scrap it because they thought it would take away from Dreamcast sales. With hilly 3D stages and backgrounds, it pushed the system to the limit..
I felt the same way with FF10 and FF12. Voice acting ruins RPGs in my opinion. They need to bring back the old FF7/8/9 CGI background style with ultra sharp characters.
I got a letter today from the cable company saying they detected a signal leak in my house and that if I don't schedule an appointment within 3 days to investigate they will cut off my service. Has anyone received one of these before? From what I gather, the cable company can detect when a...
I'm looking for parts for Folding@home machines. I think I'm a bit addicted to this project. :) I have a few cheap cases and hard drives available, but if you have anything you think would be useful for crunching numbers for medical research (anything newer than a P4 basically), I could...
I'm thinking of getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157241
None of the reviews mention overclocking much. Just curious if anyone has any experience pushing a 2500k on a board like this? I'm hoping to hit 4.5ghz or maybe even the glorious 5ghz mark, but am hoping to...
