    7.0 is very high. fast magnetic disks get about a 5.0+, and magnetic raid0's get about a 6.0. You should use a real benchmark though.

    Hundreds means something else is wrong. Timings or overlocking. Could be bad SPD data. Command rates change when you run single channel. Manually set the timings from what they are listed on paper or the RAM label and see if it happens. SET THE VOLTAGE TOO.

    There's a program that's supposed to be able to regenerate data from RAID arrays without the controllers, but I can't remember what it was. I have an DFI NF4-SLI-DR, which is probably what you have.

    I seem to recall the companies to be jittery with are corsair, kingston, and crucial. Borrow it and see if it can pass memtest and P95 at 1066 with the listed timings and voltages. If it does, buy em.

    There's EFI data in some cases. If they don't put it on the firmware it won't work in a mac. Many makers have it in anyway. Use google to find which ones work.

    A power pull will not be fatal to the raid, simply corrupting the file in transit. Which can generally be redownloaded/transferred. Also decent UPSes that will give you 15-20min runtime are $100 now, so that's a good investment anyways. A caveat is what controller you are using, if you lose...

    Yeah it's fine, that's what I do. Windows+Steam on a 32GB cheap Jmicron SSD and everything else on a 200GB leading partition on a 640GB dual platter WD.

    New motherboard without ECC RAM, but with Intel ICH10R and use that. Also have an external with periodic backups.

    I don't like overclocking RAM as it is too touchy and doesn't give you a real perceivable performance boost. Just find any dual channel kit you are comfortable with. OC the rest of the system as you wish.

    SATA 6GB/s controllers (with esata) come out next month or so, dunno about the drive. USB3 is going to be perpetually behind at this rate.

    Wouldn't that be because the ICH-R is handling the cache. You can turn off write-back cache from the Storage Manager, but that hoses speed.

    Probably ~30 drives. 9-10 SCSI 30-74GB 10K RPM, and IDE ranging from 800MB to 250GB. All my sata drives are in use though.

    HDTach didn't write I don't think. That warning is so people who don't know what they are doing don't nuke their system drive. It will still nuke the drive if it's not the system one.

    Something that occurred to me is that if you are running the JMB controller in AHCI mode, and then use windows raid1, by reading off only 1 drive, it won't saturate the bus, and you'll still have full bandwidth for a normal magnetic drive raid1, so no real penalty.

    unless the first one fails in which case you lose the filetable (yes I know NTFS has one on the end). And that's not always the case either, you should not do that.

    All the PCI bus gigabit cards i've seen cap out around 700mbit. IIRC the theoretical limit for the entire PCI bus was 800mbit Edit: My Athlon64 3700+ is CPU limited to between 400-600mbit depending on how much offloading that card is capable of (100% CPU load)
