Anyone live in the Houston area?

Well there's always Directron (www.directron.com)... its off of the Beltway and Harwin... Its not the cheapest place by any means but it does have a great selection, especially in cases and case mod stuff. Other than that though, Houston is pretty dry as far as I know. good luck! alin

I am done with Express clothes from now on

My limited experience with Exrpess Shirts (Not MX... their "other" button ups) has been pretty good, but as others have posted they do not hold a candle to BR shirts. Especially since now the price is so close (I think Express is like ~60 and BR is around ~70).

minendo has it right... usually, at least at big companies, CIO's and IT department heads are not the most technical. Its not as toy4x4 states... that they are idiots... its just that they are not paid to be technical but instead to manage a department. Again, this is why they have more...

I agree.. I've heard of the bad review for their CD's but I find both of them to be quite good... their second better than their first IMHO. Highly recommended.

exactly... RAID1 is to provide redundancy due to hardware failures not software/virus infections.

does anyone have a small LCD screen on their PC case?

I've got a 4x20 Matrix Orbital VFD (not LCD... dont think LCD's are common in case screens..). Anyway, I use LCD Smartie 5.2 to display all kinds of data from temps, speeds, songs in winamp, etc.

Western Digital Raptor Performance

I personally dont have any raptors (i've got 3 2nd gen X15 SCSI drives) but info from a friend w/ two 76gig striped raptors says they are very very nice and quick. Mind you, he's coming from two x15's striped and he's said performance is very comprable...

I agree that you typically dont see much over 50-60% boost from going to multi-cpu's but 50-60% is nothing to sneeze at. Also, You're right about the limitations of a shared bus, and being that I'm not familiar w/ the PPCXXX system architecture and/or what XBOX2 will have, I cant really say if...

Mushkin vs. OCZ vs. Crucial

I'd like to know why you think that... If he's not after OCing (which he doesnt state he is) then Mushkin/OCZ have no advantage over Crucial as all can be had w/ low CAS timings and such. Plus, there's a reason Crucial is so popular w/ system builders... its relatively cheap and very very...

just saw that too... doen't seem plausible if this thing is suppose to come out sometime in 2005. I just dont see how they can keep the price of that thing ~300. In any case though, even if that is remotely right... XBX2 will be one beast of a system.

WinsXP 64Bit Hardware Question.

I'll echo that... WHERE ARE THE 64bit DRIVERS ATi? I mean, I'm an avid ATi user but this really gets me... Nvidia's had them out for quite some time. This is the only thing keeping me from running Win64.

Mushkin vs. OCZ vs. Crucial

Used Mushkin and Crucial in the past (just now jumped on Kingston HyperX) and I'd have to say both are great. If I were after good and affordable ram I'd most likely go w/ Curical as they usually tend to be a bit cheaper than Mushkin (which is more of a niche player). Any of them, however...

Where to begin... You're right, SCSI (Small Computer Storage Interface is what I believe it stands for) is storage interface, much the same as IDE and SATA (not RAID though). Without getting into the very technical differences, its just another stage interface and as such requires three things...

Overclocking and CPU lifespan

well put Confused... I keep telling people that when they are worried about OCing affecting the life of a CPU... how many people keep their computer, with the same CPU, long enough to see the end of the life for a chip... i'd venture to say < 1%.

New FX-51... want to overclock... need good HSF

Ok, as promised... here are some numbers. I'm OC'ing the cpu to 2.45ghz @ 1.6v and temps I'm getting are ~40C idle ~47-50C under load w/ Prime95. This, again, is with a Swiftech MCX-6400 HSF w/ an 80mm Delta 67cfm fan roaring above and AS5 between the sink and cpu. At stock speeds and voltage...

K8T800 causing Radeon 9700 Pro heat problems?

I also suspect that its a PSU problem. I have almost the same config (K8T800 + 9700Pro) running w/ a Enermax 465w PSU and it works just fine (unless I OC the snap out of it ;) ).

PC-2100 registered ECC work with Athlon FX boards?

I've got two sticks of PC2100 ram that I could use to tide me over until I order my PC3200 ram but no where on my mobo's documentation does it say anyting about that. It talks about PC2700 and PC3200 so i dont know if this will work. I've got an Asus SK8V mobo btw... Also, would anyone know...

Thanks for the replies... just wanted to update you on what the purchase is... just ordered Swiftech MCX6400-V (thanks for the review NFactor!) w/ a 67cfm Delta 80mm fan! I'll post some numbers once I get the hsf on it! Thanks again!

Comcast (G4) to merge with TechTV

Press Release the G4 and TechTV channels are merging... and they are retaining the G4 name and most of their shows. Looks like the new channel will be much more focused on Gaming. Wonder how this affects X-Play...

Schick Quattro razor opinions?

went from mach3 -> quattro -> mach3... the sucky thing about the quattro, although it did shave OK, is that the pivoting "part" is on the actual razor and if it breaks you have to get a new razor... not just the blade. Well, guess what happened to me a week into the new razor... BAM, it broke...

I'd second the "Anything Wrox" statement, and perticularly (sp?) the "Beginning ASP.NET with C#" book. Also, the MS books are pretty good, especially their new line of professional books, although I'm not sure they have anything specifically on C# in their new pro books. Anyway, cant go...

The reason why gas companies are sueing the mass market chains is because they are running the individual gas marketers out of business. You see, most gas stations are not owned by the gas companies but are, in fact, owned by marketers... people not related to the company you see on the sign...

And you know this how? I happen to work for one of the oil majors and know from experience that the addative is added at the terminal. Also, if the addative is added at the Refinery, as you state, then all the stations buying gas from an ExxonMobil refinery would use Exxon gas w/ Exxon...

There's a place called Electrolux (i'm pretty sure... not positive) somewhere on Richmond between 610 and Greenway Plaza. I've been there once, a long time ago, so I'm not positive that it will have exactly what your looking for but give it a look... good luck.
