    switching input on DAQ

I would use a multiplexer. TCs are pretty immune to interference and cross talk. it sounds like use would only have to multiplex 4 or 5 together which isn't very much. Ive done systems where we multiplex 12 or 15 together. What DAQ are you using and how often do you need to read each...

Engineering Workstation + Entertainment Build for College Student!

Average of abs value vs RMS

I'm an EE so I don't really know what people outside of electricity use RMS for, but the reason that you don't use the mean of the abs values is because it is not "statistically robust" ie it is "greatly" affected by outliers. I don't know anything about its convergence and what not.

    First time builder; $1600 Budget

You might want to look at a different motherboard. That one has sata connectors facing out instead of to the right. If you have a long video card in that slot, it will block th sata connectors. Otherwise its seems to be a good build. i'll second a better heatsink.

Article: Intel Opens Door to Contract Chip Manufacturing

Isn't it only for one very small company? I bet Intel is using this as a trial run for reconfigurable logic etc for future processors. Intel will probably just buy them if it pans out.

    Parallel Programming Course Project

the newest version of MATLAB 2010b has built in (For Nvidia only) GPGPU functions and is relatively easy to use, especially compared to CUDA/OpenCL. I just mested around with it for a few hours and so far and have noted speed ups with large arrays and dealing with trig functions, and small speed...

    drift velocity and super conduction

The way current flows through superconductors is different than a normal conductor. Instead of electrons independently flowing through a lattice of atoms, pairs of electrons are formed with a gap between them. When in this state the electrons can flow with no dc resistance. There is a...

    OCZ Vertex versus Colossus

Isn't the colossus just two vertexes in raid0 is the same package? If so, I would think that the colossus should be faster, but I think in real world performance you won't see much of difference between the two.

GPU Benchmarking Methods Investigated: Fact vs. Fiction

I actually think the way HardOCP reviews cards is the best way for end users. They find the highest settings possible to play at each resolution so you can see which card will give you a better experience not just the raw performance.

What NVidia chipset is equivalent to the AMD's 890GX Northbridge?

you could get a 785g or 790gx motherboard. the i don't think that the 8XX chipset's new features (sata3 etc) really would make much of a difference for htpc use. plus they are 785g's on new egg for like $65. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138182

    what the hell RAM prices...

Demand for computers last year was significantly lower than most of the ram manufactures had planned for so they had tons of ram chips with very little demand which equated to very low prices. Mow the supply of ram is more inline with the current demand so the manufacturers can charge more.

    electrical engineering requirements

Help with gaming headphones/amps - mid range solution?

almost all headphone can benefit from amps, but they are only necessary for high impedance headphones(which most high end ones are). I haven't used any gaming oriented headphones. For gaming, i usually just use my grado sr-125's but since they are open air, they don't block any outside noise.

Apple keyboard keys wear down faster than anthing Ive ever used.

The keys are coated to provide texture, and that in your case it is just the coating wearing off. It will make the caps look shiny and discolored. They use this coating because it is much cheaper and it is done as part of the process that prints the letters.
