Replicating Attributes to Global Catalog in Active Directory

I'm trying to replicate a few attributes to the Global Catalog in Windows 2003 so that they'll appear under the Users and Computers MMC. I've gone through the Schema Manager MMC and checked "Replicate this attribute to the Global Catalog" then gone back to User and Computers > View > Advanced...

php-mysql woes

Trouble using "ls" in root directory

I don't have a script, at least that i'm aware of... keep in mind this used to work. What happens is it takes a long time, never yeilding anything... so i ctrl+c it. I can access files in /, but if i didn't know there names, i would never be able to see them... I do run vnc, so i'll try...

ATI TV Wonder + 2k / XP

I've installed the drivers and MMC and all works well. However, when I reboot and start the tv tuner again, the same initialization wizards pops up as if it were the first time i installed the MMC. I'm running XP now, but i remember having this same exact problem under 2k... just can't...

Trouble using "ls" in root directory

My housemates have been repeatedly pulling the plug on my linux server and now i can't use the ls command in /. Everything else appears to be alright, but i can't think of why ls would stop working in the root directory. I've tried it from several accounts, including root. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I'll check on the Ethertalk status... I left work early, so I'm not infront of the machine anymore, but I'll edit the atalk.conf on monday... i do remember parsing through it though, only remember seeing comments, no parameters. I'll post back on monday once i'm able to mess with it...

Virtual network behind DHCP / Router

Mandrake Linux 8.1 question

The login name / password it asked you to complete during the install was for your user account. You don't want to operate as root all the time, especially if you don't know linux that well. The root user in linux is more powerful then the admin in NT/2k, and it's never a good idea to operate...

I agree... try giving them power user rights... power users essentially can do everything an Admin can except install software and remove software/files that they don't own.

Router in focus

Yes, most routers have a switch side to them so you can connect multiple machines, but switches don't broadcast. I don't think there's a way to do what you want. Why would you want to broadcast though?

Creating a Web Interface

I would suggest Apache, but i think the only PC version is for win2k/xp, not sure on that though. It's safe, secure, and flexible. You can use IIS if you have NT/2k/xp but take the time to install the patches I don't know java or java scripting, so i can't help you with those questions...

well, the authentication isn't hard. If you use Apache just create a .htpasswd file. If you've written java scripts or plan to, then just include the method's into your html.

Can't format hard drive using FORMAT.COM in ME

When you fdisk'd the drive did you just delete the partition and fail to create a new one? Does format c: with no switches work? If so, you can use a 98 machine to make a 98 bootdisk then format c: /s or worst case scenario you format c: with no parameters and pick up some generic mscdex...

Red Hat or Mandrake?

I use both RH 7.1 and Mandrake 8.1. Essentially they're the same, but mandrake really impressed me when i originally installed it (version 7.1). Mandrake offers Drakconf which is kinda of the equivilant of control panel in windows, so it's easy to perform tasks you otherwise wouldn't know how...

2 NICs = double bandiwdth

The problem with the 2 NIC = 2x Bandwidth theory is that appz like IE and MIRC won't split loads or equally divide bandwidth, nor do i know of software that does it for you. Those appz will run off one NIC, one IP. I'm not sure that you can even specify which NIC to use for things like that...

Home Network won't work!

What was the result of removing the "good" machine from the network? Did that give functionality to the "bad" one? There are still too many factors to pinpoint the problem. BTW... I thought Sygate went out of business... oh well
