So I realized there was no point in RMA'ing this thing. They would just do the same thing I just did with the heat sink. That was straighten it out, clean up the old TIM, put some new TIM on and replace. Then they would have tested it and said all better. So that is what I did hope it holds...
Well if I where you, I think I would flash your bios back to what it was and see how it runs. You sound like an experienced overclocker so I am sure you went through and reset settings and all of that so no point going through all of that. I know nothing about Foxconn boards and that is the...
I suggested this board to my buddy and he has been very happy with it.
ASRock A780GXE
Not sure what you are looking for all together. From what I get just a good board for an everyday computer. So there is my pick :)
Good luck with the hunt.
The motherboard is an ASRock x58Extreme. After I got the system stable enough to load an OS and after the OS was loaded I decided that it was best that I shut the system down till I confirmed the problem. The stock Heatsink is easily fixed just a little tweak and it sits flat. I am just...
Looks good. One question did you order 3 of 2gx3? if so just send 2 of the sets back. I do not know anything about the board but it is AM3 and people love ASUS. As far as the PSU, you will be able to do what ever your heart desires with it great choice (okay maybe exaggerating a touch but...
Well like it says heat sink came badly installed. I should have caught it but I did not (this mistake will not be made again). I have a bunch of pictures that I will link.
The short story here is I could not even get this thing to run long enough to mess around in BIOS. After many hours of...
This presents an interesting position here. For those that have the notion that a larger buss and smaller multiplier are better.....with turbo enabled it very well could be. Just something to think about something I will be doing :)
Cheers
Hmmm...... Interesting question here. I will put this on my list of things to do with the 750 I have.
From the overclocking I have done I have not experienced any stability issues at say a 165 bus which would be the absolute extreme you could over clock the PCIe from what info you guys are...
I know of these tests. Which I have used quite often. The only variation I have used with these is running F@H at the same time.
Okay this will show how new I am too all of this.
rts? NVM google is your friend Real-time Strategy.
fps? I assume first person shooter. and yes!
how...
I am far from knowledgeable about the subject of 3d rendering and such but what I have caught from this very debate is that the Hyperthreading of the 920 will make it superior for this. I could be totally off here I am just passing on info I have glazed over.
Scratch all I said...
Thanks and love the sig that is great.
So......this thing is running so good now that the LS5 has set in and I am sure everything has had a nice burn in this past week......I just don't think I can put the lid on this thing contrary to what I have said.
Soooooo back to tweaking like always...
I think he said Scythe Ninja2. He mentions it on page 1 or 2 when ever it was he joined in on the thread.
And update. I have been running Prime95 for atleast 6 hours with out a hickup running low to mid 60's for temps I am very happy. Running at my above specs ran out of time for testing...
Hello All,
Just a little update. Which will never be as informative as Gaidin ;). By the way Gaidin how are you reading your wattage at the wall? And no I am not using CPUID's Tmonitor will have to check it out.
First of I have to say the Core i5 machine is much snappier than my...
NewEgg only has 2 that are worth getting ATM. I know that a few others are coming out with updated brackets soon. The one you linked is just basically your standard Plastic Push locks, so no more trouble to install than any previous Intel Cooler.
The other option is also a Cooler Master...
Thanks I am just glad I finally was able to contribute a little to all those who have helped me along my way.
As far as I can tell about Turbo mode I am having the same results as Gaidin. When I boot up and overclocked it gives me a 21 multiplier. Which with it turned on you can select 21...
Yea I think I have hit a wall at 3.7ghz. Anything higher and the temps are very high more than I am comfortable with. What are quote on quote safe temps with the i7's? I assume these would basically imply for i5.
Hey another player WOOT. Now that I have a decent cooler I have been getting down to the nitty gritty. Here is where I am at.
Last night I turned my multiplier down to x10 @ 180 mhz because I was fairly sure that was a stable clock. Memory 3x. So just testing QPI. Bumped it up in 5 mhz...
Damned if I do, Damned if I don't. I cannot win with this build. FINALLY got an aftermarket cooler for this thing.........now the side cover doesn't fit. Thing has a helicopter fan in it. Well back to the over clocking.
Oh Temps dropped 15+ degrees at idle. So yea there cooler is...
Here is a little summary for those that are just catching on to this thread. Been trying to Overclock my new I5 with a Vendetta2 very badly mounted. Picture up about above basically phone books for pressure on CPU. Here are the clocks I got.
3.5 ghz is 100% stable
3.8 ghz seems stable...
Sorry folks fell asleep on this. Actual that weird thing called life stepped in and I have not been able to find a cooler for this thing. I really think heat is my enemy at this point. It is getting into the 80's on a couple cores at 4.0ghz.
And on the SLI I have not checked to see if it...
No not on stock cooler. Have a Vendetta2 very crudely set up to cool it lol. If you look back a few posts you will see my very unique mounting system lol. But yes with proper cooling it should be good for over 4ghz. I am playing with settings now trying to get it prime stable. It is user...
Hmmm numbers are in other room. I bumped the voltage from 1.2625 to 1.3625. Temps are through the roof right now under full load. Like getting into the low 80's. I have to believe that the temps are right after all and this CPU I got just runs on the hot side. Idle temps are just a few...
Well calling it quits for now. Running at 4ghz on very questionable cooling. Computer runs but is not Prime or linX stable (probably mostly cooling) I am a total noob when it comes to i5 or i7 overclocking so a few new settings and things I need to get a better understanding of.
Going to...
Okay here is my first stable OC.
3.5ghz at 175x20 @ stock voltage.
Only settings that have been changed are the basics like spread spectrum and power related ones. The only one that was changed that could effect anything was DDR voltage which I upped just a little.
Now the fun starts...
Arghh!!! I want too. Having a hell of a time figure out my temp problem. I have a few different coolers laying around.....didn't think of the fact that this is an intel product so of course they had to change the mounting pattern.....Intel really could take some notes from AMD.
I do have...
I would have to say yes I am a guinea pig. No choice this early in the game :P
Update:Well I let the PC run all night in hopes of some sort of burn in.....at basically an idle. This morning it is idling at 40c so it has gone down some which could be just the ambient temp.
As of right now...
No no fail thank god. Just got side tracked......then had to find my wifi deal since no internet in that room. Then SLI wasn't working so had to fix that.
But it is up and running. Temps maybe good maybe not. Need to figure out which ones are correct. Real Temp and Core Temp are showing...
As the title says wondering if anybody has got there hands on an i5 yet and even better over clocked it?
I fell victim to the table of P55 boards in Micro Center yesterday. I was like what are those doing out.....why in the world would you get the motherboard when you can't get the CPU yet...
