I have a simple network at home (4 clients, xp pro + vista) + a simple file sharing server (xp pro).
I use the "server" for two things, mainly. Backup of the clients files + sharing some media files.
Some of the clients files are efs encrypted.
Is it possible to retain the encryption...
Mine did the same and died.
And so did a lot of others.
Buy a quality one (check for Fortron 450watts if you are on a budget, cheap and quality).
And RMA / sell the Antec one.
I know.
A complete network rebuild is to be done. This is a temporary measure.
There is a "server" used to backup data and share smaller files. It's a simple Windows 2000 Pro box.
There is around 20 computers total.
We have a small network here at work. Mostly Windows 2000 and XP boxes. No server.
It is used to share large CAD files between computers. The security is really basic. Shares are accessed using the guest account.
I would like one Windows 2000 computer NOT to be able to access the network...
I think you are right on this one. The signature of the guy who posted says otherwise but the date is way too early for a C2D.
Anyway, one thing is for sure. The C2D is way less "rectangular" than a Pentium D. My Opteron 165 was pretty much the same size and who said we needed a line of AS5...
So yeah. There is 1mm more on one side. Yeah sure a full line of AS5 will help
We've been using a grain of AS5 on Athlon64 for years and they are not perfectly square.
I mean compare the Pentium D to the C2D (ok it's not PERFECTLY square). It's pretty obvious the method is for...
That's an actual core2duo core:

I use the onboard sound on my DS3 but I hate the Gigabyte sound control panel.
I tried the original Realtek ones and I still get the Gigabyte control panel. Even after a clean format.
wtf?
Yes. Try to find a "contact us" link in there. I can't find any other than that stupid "register your product" or "RMA". Two options I'm not looking for :(
I've got a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 and a "Ocz Gold Xtc PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-12 240PIN Dimm Dual Channel Memory Kit" coming in the mail. Price on the memory was too good to pass.
I've read some stories about this combo. Am I In for a bad experience?
Well every CAD computer stores its files locally. Then their data folder is duplicated to the server every night and the whole server's content gets out of the building every week. Ain't that enough?
I know that thanks.
You are right. I might sound unqualified. I used to work in the network field. Even did my MCSE on NT4. But I went back to school in management and kept doing some (very) simple workgroup task as a side student job.
However, I have no experience with AD and 2000/2003 MS Server. I still think...
Yeah I'm trying to catch up reading some books.
Thanks to others for opinions. They use 2 "servers" just to shortcut the 10 users limit in 2000. The actual need for servers is just one.
Let's suppose I install a Windows 2003 Server. I can manage shares access on client computers right...
I have been taking care of a small business network as a side work. The company is a mold maker and has CAD workstations and some CNC machines running Windows.
Current setup is :
- 2 computers running Windows 2000 pro acting as "servers", mostly to share files.
- 8 computers in the...
I wanted to play this awesome game again and I can't use a resolution higher than 1024x768. I can select 1600x1200 in settings but for some reason nothing happen.
I have an Nvidia 7900GT. I also tried with my gf's computer which has a Radeon 9500pro, same problem.
Anyone playing this game...
If I run Cinebench on one cpu or encode some video file with Virtualdub without setting the affinity manually I get this weird cpu usage:

Why doesn't it use only one core at 100% ?
I would like to use a Windows 2000 Pro as a simple VPN server .
1. I heard the limit is one connection at a time, is that true? Even with multiple NICs?
2. I have a Linksys BEFSX41 VPN Endpoint Router connected to the network, could I use it as a "server" instead? There is a document on...
