Graphics Card for my server

Yes.... I had to dremmel off all the little drive tabs.. I was cursing myself out the whole time for not buying a CM Stacker. The Armor is not mafe dor any thing else besides single height 5.25" drives. Very stupid case!!!! Thanks! ~Sy

It's the Thermaltake Xaser Armor. But I wouldn't recommend it is you are going to do the same as me... I had to cut off these steel horizontal tabs between each 5.25" bay.... It was very bloddy.... If I had to do it again I would have got a Coolermaster staker.... Next time tho I'm going...

Storage for archive?

At work I have one These. Its a 30 drive LTO tape autoloader. We use LTO2 tapes that can hold 200G uncompressed/400G compressed. We buy tapes in a 20 pack for bout $1000 so thats $50/tape. There are also available LTO3 tapes and drives that can hold 400G/800G. You don't have to buy an...

Got permanent marker(red sharpie) on my coolermaster aluminum case

Go buy a red dry erase marker. The kind you use on one of those whiteboards. Then scribble over the permanant ink with the dry erase marker. Then wipe it off as easily as you would the dry erase ink. ~Sy

Need HUGE Case!

I have 14 drives in my rig. The case is a Thermaltake Armor with 3 Supermicro drive cages. I wouldn't suggest the Thermaltake case for this application. The TT armor only has 10 useable bays which only leaves 1 bay for a cdrom. I put my cdroms in an external housig and put them on the...

1024 > 1000... and it cost me $180

Just built a fileserver. I wanted 3TB of total storage in RAID 5. I knew that hard drives were calculated using 1GB=1,000,000,000 (1000*3) bytes and everything else calculates 1GB=1,073,741,824 (1024*3) bytes. This never used to bother me when I used smaller drives like a 40 gigand windows...

check out archive press releases from lucent. You can see that they had 95 and NT drivers in dec 95 and it wasnt available to apple people intil nov 96. I was using a wireless system before apple came out with their airport. It was a lucent access point. They were available to the mass...

Windows XP Pro versus Sever 2003

Windows Server 2003 +SP1 can do GUID Partition Tables. That may not mean a lot to you right now. But when you decide to build your 3.5 TB array with 8 500 gig drives, you will see the light! Unless you are talking about Windows XP Pro X64 edition which can do GPT too. ~Sy

best 4-in-1?

May be a little out of your budget but nothing beats a laser based MFP. especially if someone sends you a 20 page fax. It won't eat up all your ink and the cost per page is the best with a laser. I have one of these. Its pretty fast and scan quality is excellent too. And if I want to print...

w00t! RAID 5 is installed and cables are done

Do both... Max out your raid array with 8 250. Add 2 raptors in raid0 and use that as your boot drive. Loose the 120... ~Sy

Recommend a Gigabit switch? None or silent fan, plugs in the back.

Dell 2708 = 8 port gigabit, no fans, = $80 *edit... Oops sorry when you said plugs in the back I thought you just meant the power plug in the back. After a reread i think you wanted the rj-45 jacks back there too right?

running an LCD monitor at res other than native

The only time it won't look like total crap is if you divide the native resolution by a whole number say 2. So If you have a Dell 2100FP which has a native 1600x1200 resolution you divide that resolution by 2 1600/2 = 800 & 1200/2 =600 . So if you run at a resolution of 800x600 it won't look...

Why is this so expensive?

Cause thats the Retail Box version. even more expensive at CompUSA. This is not the Upgrade version and it is not the OEM version... Which are the exact same things except they don't come in a fancy blue box with manuals and other junk... there are other subtle differences between OEM and Full...

Yea... Get XP Professional... You need it for remote desktop connection too.... and as long as you are allready buying your stuff from Newegg you can just buy the OEM version for the same price as the XP Home(Retail). ~Sy
