Which CPU for my new Dell Studio 15?

Either the T6600 or P8700. The T4300 is too slow. The T9600 costs far too much for too little of a game in performance.

    Lenovo work laptop

Don't let nay-says get you down. I've been using Thinkpads for a decade, and I can tell you that the Lenovo models are just making Thinkpads better and better. With that out of the way, this spec looks good to me. The only thing that looks a little skimpy is the RAM. 3GB isn't -that- much. On...

    Laptop warranty

I would not worry that much about the warranty, particularly on a standard notebook which these days will cost you far less than a grand. With extended warranty options starting at $99 and running up to several hundred dollars, it just doesn't make sense. In terms of standard warranties, I...

Need new Heatsink for 720 BE

Depends on how much you want to spend. I'd buy a Noctua fan, or a Tuniq Tower.

    Open or Shut Case??

I would go with closed, actually, unless you're going to put a big, huge fan over the side of your computer. Why? Airflow. In a closed case, air comes in the areas it is designed to, flows through the case to pick up heat, and exits through the exhausts. In an open air case, a lot of that air...

    Comparing netbook cpu's

For what you're considering, a Core 2 CULV sounds good. However, I am concerned because most of the Atom netbooks in the price range are honestly more mature as products. Remember, the processor is only part of the equation. Other things like the keyboard, trackpad, screen quality, and general...

Good Heatsink for a Core i5 SFF desktop?

You want to overclock in a SG01-F? Good luck to you. As I recall you have less than an inch of extra space in those cases for putting in a bigger cooler. I personally don't think it will work out very well. Just enjoy your turbo mode and leave it at that :-)

    Considering a Move to Water

If you're doing this off of some sort cost savings, don't. You'll get way more performance by sinking your $300 dollars into a new Radeon 5850. If you want to go for it just as a project though, I'd start with this water cooling guide : http://www.tomshardware.com/re...ling-your-pc,1573.html...

    Help me choose... 4870 1gb, 4890 or 5770.

I don't see any point in upgrading to any of these video cards from your current. Are you actually running into any issues with what you're playing right now? I can't imagine you are, you should be able to run those games at basically max details without any issues. The problem with the...

How often do you upgrade your video card? (poll included)

I upgrade about every two years. My latest upgrade was a Radeon 4870. I probably won't upgrade until sometime towards the end of next year.

    Asus refines AMD core unlocking

The only thing would be cooler is if they would let you unlock more cores on an X4 955. Think about it...

    55 & 58 boards convergence...

I don't know of any reason you'd buy the Core i7 920 unless you feel you will have future need of possible LGA1366 upgrades in the future. The Core i7 860 is generally a better processor and motherboards are a bit cheaper.

    Cheap game build?

This would be very simple. A Radeon 4850 would be great. But even a Radeon 4670 would work amazingly.

Theory - AMD going bankrupt - who would buy?

The buyer would probably be the same unendingly optimistic Arab investors who have been investing in them and Global Foundry so far.

P55 contact issue and non overclockers

It would certainly be nice to have some official statement about the problem from Foxconn and/or Intel that we know they're working to fix it.

    P55 MB Reviews MIA???

I wouldn't wait for reviews. We all know that the products are going to perform roughly the same. And it is a good bet that Gigabyte and ASUS are going to get top marks, with probably some MSI and Biostars running up behind. The only reason I would wait is for prices to drop, because I think...

    Netbook advice

I wouldn't pick up an SSD for a netbook. The performance will be handicapped by the fact the computer's processor is so slow. As far as which processor to look for, well, some of the new CULV stuff is good and has high performance. But a netbook is a lot more than a processor, and I think...

Help me understand this cpu upgrade please.

I don't believe an upgrade to i5/7 would be of much use to you. The Nehalem based stuff is only substantially better than Core 2 processors when it comes to multi-threaded applications.

    AM2 cooler

If you want something basic I would buy an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 But if you want something a bit more intense, then there is always the classic Tuniq Tower

    Upcoming C2D price cuts?

I would not bet on any price cuts of Core 2 products. Intel does not -want- Core 2 to be seen as competitive to its new architecture and will price the Core 2 products accordingly. Besides, we've seen this happen before. Intel's older processors have simply never dropped in price because new...

    C2D overclocking

E8400 is probably your best bet. E8500 and E8600 are obviously also capable of this but also cost more.

Suggest a quite case for this build

It is possible to overclock on air an stay quiet if you buy a good cooler. The Noctua NH-U12P would be my choice. Of course, liquid would but much quieter, providing you can afford it.

Advice for a good cooler for i7 860

Does anyone know of any non-stock LGA1156 coolers currently available? I couldn't find any on newegg.

Any OC'd i5's out there yet?

3.5 Ghz doesn't seem like a bad stable overclock for that cooling setup.

    i7 920 vs i7 860 Gaming/OC which one is best?

I think reviews have been pretty clear that the Core i5 is better than the Core i7 920 for gaming. Unless he is giving you that Core i7 920 and mobo for a crazy low price I'd skip it and go for the Core i5.
