nVidia: "We expected more from the 7970"

The reason its only "6%" is because you decided to use a graph that sets the 100% at a much faster card... If you set the 580 as the 100% mark, the 7970 would have a larger percentage increase. That explains some of the difference. Basically that graph is not showing what you want it to.

Grudge Match From Hell : HD 6970 Vs GTX 560

1 Ghz 580 had aftermarket cooler (a very beefy one) or was done for suicide benchmark runs. There is an almost negligible chance you can get a stock 580 to 1 ghz speeds.

NVMD... Looks like I can't read. Looks to be a good card. Might want to clock it = to a 460 and see how much the extra shaders benefit versus the clock.

Ah, I thought the smiley meant something else. If you want a preliminary look at the 560, the 485m mobile gpu has some leaked benches and is basically a 560 (384 shaders, 2 gb of gddr5, 590ish clocks). notebookreview has some benchmarks as that as well as notebookcheck.

Happy, in your vrzone link, that does not look like reference cooling at all on the 580 (I could be mistake, but that looks like an aftermarket tower cooler). The 560 probably won't clock higher than the 460 and probably will clock a little bit lower (extra units versus maturing process). Still...

The 6970 runs at 880 core, 1536sp's, 250watt TDP, launch date is the 14th in US

Fine compare it to a similarly priced dual gpu card. Oh wait, there isn't one. Compare it to two cards in SLI. AFAIK, 5970 will beat dual 460's or 470's. Also, adding arbitrary rules into the competition about what should fairly be compared to what when prices are equal is a somewhat shoddy...

nVidia GTX570 reviews roundup

Too bad 5970 exists for that purpose. And that the 470 and 480 was also more expensive than the parts it beat. The 570 is a nice evolutionary change, though with the ridic deals on 5870 and 470, it doesn't seem as good once those parts are EOL'ed.

So 580 GTX is all Nvidia can do for a next gen? That is a pretty pathetic increase from "last gen" (20% from 480). Pretty sure AMD will have a much bigger leap from their last gen (even though the 5970 still beats the 580).

THIS ARTICLE IS FAKE AND HAS WRONG NUMBERS. Come on Wreckage, just accept you made a mistake about the pricing and that this article is crap. One of the statements has to be wrong (6970 = 1.2 * 480 and 6970 < 570).

5870 Mobility

Amd gpu clock tool. I use it for my 5850 on my gx640 and it can hit 800 mhz (100 mhz above your card) very easily. Your's should do it as well.

Seeing as though 20% above a 480 which = a 570 means that it is competitive with a 580, I don't see how you got the price you did. Still, Fake Evidence is Fake, so I request a lock soon.

The one article I saw (or maybe it was a post compilation, now that I think of it I think a forumer here averaged the scaling results) showed an appreciable difference between 4XX scaling and 68XX scaling.

6870 beat 460 in unigine and the 68XX series got better scaling (it was in an article). I will try to find the article and the unigine performance, but if anyone can back me up that would be great.

10.7 had bad scaling even for the 5XXX series. Notice in some games it only gets 20% more than 5870. 6XXX series so far has better scaling than the 460 (it goes 5XXX<4XX<6XXX in scaling). The 68XX have better tessellation performance in unigine if you didn't notice.

Also the 5970 is = or better with a gimped driver meaning its about the worst case scenario for most of these games. So while it depends on profiles, xfire is getting better. For the same price I'd get the 580, but still the 5970 is quite competitive for a year old product.

Nope, notice how I didn't say anything about OCing the 6870. It is not guaranteed just a bonus. Also 6850 oc'ed and xfired will beat the 460.

Happy, the 6870x2 is almost = to a 480 GTX SLI in some tests. Even assuming that we need to increase quality, it still beats the 470 sli (I think). Are the 6870 and the 470 even the same price?

5970 is currently same price or cheaper on newegg if you count MIR. So it is not much cheaper. Also, running on the newest drivers is just a part of reviews. The 580 has no newer drivers (that I know) so it was run at an acceptable driver. Don't expect massive increases drivers as it is still...

13 Games use GPU PhysX and most barely use it (none use physics as well as crysis or red faction). Directcompute, while based off of cuda, is not cuda. So CUDA is not useful for me at all really. If GPU PhysX appears in Crysis 2 and really contributes to gameplay, then CUDA will have some use...

Cuda was shown a year before, my mistake. Also, DX10 had a lot of ATI because ATI designed the first psuedo dx10 card for Microsoft already. They probably had more pull because of that. Nice job not actually commenting on how nvidia had no such tessellator. Your wonderings are interesting, but...

GPU PhysX are in no way an innovation. Though this is probably a difference in our definitions. For me, innovation would be something completely new, if AMD or nvidia use optical computing, complete x86 emulation with reasonable speeds, modular GPU's, etc. Anything else, Eyefinity, CUDA, PhysX...
