Asus X99-A 3.1 Shipping BIOS?

I helped a friend setup a machine with this board a few months ago and it needed a bios update to run 16GB sticks. However, I think they update the bios with each manufacturing batch, so yours might not need the update.

24" LCD that rotates?

There's also a lot of used dell 24" ultrasharp IPS monitors floating around ebay for <$200. I just grabbed a 2407wpf for $185 last week. That, or you can just buy a stand on Amazon and attach it to any monitor with VESA mounts. Here's a stand for $44...

What was your first overclock?

Intel Pentium E2160. Stock 1.8Ghz ===> 3.0Ghz after 5 min in bios. I wish my current CPU could do a 60% OC like that.

320 or x25-m?

Just go with the cheapest SSD with the capacity you want. I have a X61 Tablet, and Lenovo has locked the BIOS at SATA I (150) for compatibility reasons. I believe the same is true on the T60. Hence, you won't actually get any speed benefits above SATA I speeds.

MicroATX Case - Quiet and 2x5.25 bays - recommendations?

I have that case housing my desktop. I have a Phenom II X4 and a GTX460 inside, and I can hear all the fans. It's got good build quality for a budget case. But there's no dust filters or sound dampening layers. I would recommend you go with the Antec if you want quiet.

lenovo X120e for around $300... shippped

The title for the thread is kind of misleading though. My order ended up being $365 after tax (upgraded to six cell battery & tax was $32). The $300 is for pre-tax, and with a small 4 cell battery.

WD sending out SLC SSDs for RMA?

and that was a 64GB drive... Supposedly I'm getting a 128G drive. Is SLC actually any faster? or is it purely a heavy usage reliability thing?

I wonder how much of their sales come from tech-savy users who can tell the difference between 25nm and 34nm. If most of their profits are driven by best-buy geek squad sales, or people looking for the cheapest SSD with X-capacity, then they're not really hurt by this.

Seagate Momentus XT

I'm leaning toward the SSD as well. It's a work computers, so I don't really need extra space beyond 120gb. The shock proof factor and the longer battery life aspect of the SSD's are appealing.

I noticed some noise coming from this drive so I ran HD tune. I get weird drop-offs in read-speed, with min transfer rate in the range of 10mb/sec. Should I be worried?

Call Of Duty 4 @ $15 On Steam

Single player COD4 was pretty awesome the first time I played it. But it is also very short, ~10 hours I think. The real value is in the multiplayer, if you're into the twitch FPS thing.

Most bang for the buck

OP, I have a similar setup (Phenom II 2.8ghz, 4GB ram, 1920x1080 monitor), and I have a 8800GT. Dragon Age runs smooth at 1080p, all of your other older games should run even better. I suggest finding a used 8800GT in the FS forums, they go for around $60. You can't get more bang for the buck...

Replace my 8800GT?

OP, I don't think you need to upgrade at all. I have almost identical system specs (PII X4 3.0ghz, 8800gt, 4GB ram), and I just played through ME2 at 1920x1080. I was very smooth and I did not notice any slowdowns.

Mass effect 1 Frame Rate

I played the game on E2200 @ 3Ghz , 4GB Ram , 3850 256mb, Vista 64bit. Frame rate was very smooth. Your system should have no problem running the game. One quirk that I noticed was that frame rates *actually dropped* when I lowered the settings. The game was butter smooth with everything...
