On Windows I use EmEditor. It has no problems opening even multi-gigabyte files.

Firefox 53.0.2 with more than one Firefox process! I get one process for every tab now!

There is a Add-on Compatibility Reporter, but it didn't work for me. I had to disable all add-ons and then turn them on one by one to see which one caused the multi-process to be disabled. For me it was Tab Mix Plus.

First upgrade since 2008

Maybe just get Windows 7 and the Intel SSD first and see if you are happy with the performance. They only thing that might hold back your old system in the amount of RAM.

That's a nice system you've got there. Originally I went with Xeon CPU because it has a bit more cache and I thought it might be useful. Is that not true? I can go with non-Xeon system but will have to stick with i5 to stay within the budget. Both the 2600k and i3770k are ~500 NZD...

Seriously VirtualBox?!

The drivers need signing, which costs money, so it would be difficult without some kind of sponsorship. Who knows there might also be few patent issues as well.

Ubuntu 11.04 is out!

I tried it. Can't say I'm a fan of the new interface. Either Unity or Gnome. Tried a few other non-debian distros to see what's out there. I find the new KDE even worse than the new Gnome. For now reluctantly I have settled on XFCE based Xubuntu.

A few things I hate about Steam.

That's a very low bar to beat :D One small thing I don't like about Steam is the fact that don't allow you to change your account's password on their site. You have to have the client installed to do that. [At least I couldn't figure out where that option is on steampowered.com]
