house hunting in the country - internet problems

Have you called the cable company and asked if they can install it? Our neighbor a few doors down didn't originally have cable, but when he called they said he could pay $x,000 to get the cables run down the street from the nearest box. It wasn't cheap, but if the house is the right house and...

Questions to ask realtors when purchasing a home/mortgage questions.

    * Get a home inspection * Do an inspection yourself - look through every nook and cranny of the house * If you can, do multiple viewings at different times of day and go through the whole house again * Go door to door and talk to the neighbors -- ask them what the neighborhood is like, what the...

I have two computers on at all times, plus a router, switch, and separate wireless router. I pay less than $60/month consistently.

Independent zone 2 output, from digital source

Apparently not. I just spoke with someone at Denon, and he said ONLY the X4000 will do what I've described above. Bummer as it's like $1,300.

Independent zone 2 output, from digital source

I currently have a Onkyo TX-SR804 for my living room surround sound, and just found out that I won't be able to use it anymore. It's currently hooked up to an XBox 360 and Mac Mini. I added in-ceiling speakers to my kitchen, and want to be able to listen to audio from the Mac Mini in either...

    Motorcycle maintenance (03 SV650)

If you haven't changed the oil and filter yet, change it. That will likely make neutral easier to find. You should be able to easily look at the brake pads and tell if you need new ones. At 10k miles, you probably don't unless the previous owner liked to brake hard/often. More than likely, you...

Motorcycles: I want one UPDATE I GOT ONE!!!

This isn't about statistics or technology. Someone said that the bike would stand up (do a wheelie) in any gear. It won't. I've owned a Ninja 500 - it simply doesn't have anywhere near enough horsepower, and weighs way too much, to do a wheelie in anything beyond 2nd without dumping the clutch...

Need ideas for Caribbean island with kids

I would second this. Great resort for just family relaxing. The kids would probably like the Blue Iguana park thing on the island too - big ugly iguanas in the wild to check out. I would *not* do all inclusive at this resort though - you'd be pretty limited on what you can get at their one...

Watch New Years 2013 NYC online?

Motorcycles: I want one UPDATE I GOT ONE!!!

I'll second a Nina 250 or Ninja 300. Don't buy a first bike thinking you're going to keep it forever - you won't no matter what you buy. Buy a used Ninja 250 or 300, have both of you ride it for a year, and then make the decision if she wants to keep it or sell it. If you want to sell it...

Because you can't. At some height the weight of the helium equals the weight of the air/atmosphere outside, and the balloon stops rising. That height is well, well below the altitude necessary to get into orbit.

Got two weeks off. Help plan East Coast vacation

I95 is terrible - you couldn't pay me to drive that stretch. If you're looking for hiking/nature, go north and stay north - Maine, VT, NH are all beautiful this time of year. If you're looking for people, go to NYC/Boston/Atlantic City/DC.

Looking at first motorcycle update sep 22 bought one!

4 years on stock tires is quite old... I'd get new ones. You need to leave more following distance, and use less rear brake. No aftermarket exhaust that you buy is going to give you better exhaust mileage.

This ^^^ is really good advice! I'm 5'6" and have no problem with my SV650, and also no problem with my Daytona 675, which is even taller. As a newbie, it might be a little daunting... but once you have any amount of experience, if you're working hard to keep the bike balanced, you're doing...

What options do I have regarding having a phone line installed on a new construction?

Run a 2-inch piece of PVC pipe all the way from the road, to your house. Run string through it from end to end, and tie the ends off. When, at some point in the future, you want service, they can pull the wire right through the pipe without having to dig up your lawn or anything.

Holy Cow does Sage Peachtree support blows

QuickBooks support is reasonably good, and much better supported by accountants and ProAdvisors too. There's a reason that QuickBooks has such a high market percentage vs. Peachtree. (Quicken is the home-user version of QuickBooks - it's not what you want for a business)

Refinance Appraisal - House still under development

Most of the time a refinance while you're renovating will require them to come back and re-inspect *after* all of the renovations are done. e.g. you refinance now and the appraisal is based on what you say the house *will* look like after the renovations are done, and then they come back in 6...

    Wife green lit a motorcycle?

Yes and yes. It's designed specifically for people who don't have a motorcycle, and don't know how to ride. It varies wildly across states/locations. I've seen it cost everyone from $350, to completely free. Look it up in your state and contact them for more info...

    Wife green lit a motorcycle?

Highly disagree - buy gear that fits you, and is high quality. The only people that think "gear isn't that big of a deal" are those who haven't crashed yet. I've always worn gear, but it took walking away from a 60mph slide with my helmet on, face down, on the pavement to really cement in my...
