Freaking Comcast has been cheating me. RANT

This tread is about Comcast, not Charter. The source you quoted above talks about Charter only, but saying "the cable operators" implies that all cable companies have stopped allowing user-owned modems. I very recently started using Comcast and am using my own modem.

Do you think college/university degrees are necessary?

Was just going to post this. Degrees are necessary, depending on the degree and field in question. I'm a pharmacy student - good luck being a competent pharmacist without going to school (legal restrictions aside). That being said, there are definitely people who never went to pharmacy school...

Digital River Windows 7 pricing

It will let you do a clean install, but it will say something like it needs a valid key within 30 days or it will stop working. I then reinstalled on top of the install I just did, and apparently it considered that an upgrade because it accepted the key.

Gmail: Removing Multiple Contacts and stopping contacts from automatically adding

In gmail, look on the left hand side. All the way at the top, under mail, it will say contacts. Click on that and delete away. As for stopping them from automatically being added, I'm not sure.

Hmmm. To take blood pressure meds or not to..

Assuming he's been consistently at 165/80 and this is not a one-time reading, then he most certainly needs medication in addition to lifestyle changes. I don't know the OPs medical history, but his goal is most likely to achieve a BP of 140/90 or less, or, if he has diabetes or chronic kidney...

Captivate randomly shuts down

I have a Captivate, and it will seemingly randomly shut down. This always happens when the phone is not in use (not used long enough for screen to shut off). When I hit the button to light up the screen, I find out it has shut down. I've tried setting the screen timeout to 30 minutes to see if...

counter stike update

Try using the net_graph console command with different numbers (1, 2, 3, etc; for example type "net_graph 1" into the console) until you get it how you want it. I would assume multicore rendering should be enabled, assuming you have a multicore processor.

Create a custom game, and click the +AI button to add computer players. The only difficulty available right now is Very Easy so that should work well for what you want.

Do people still buy inkjet printers?

I've had a Brother HL2040 for 3 and a half years, printed hundreds and hundreds of pages and have yet to run out of the original toner cartridge. Said it was low and wouldn't let me print anymore, so I taped over the holes it uses to check its level, and it's still going strong a semester later.

Does the stock 1366 cooler come with a thermal solution?

I bought an i5 (socket 1156 instead of 1366), and the stock cooler did have some rubbery compound applied to the bottom of the heatsink -- apparently it melts and spreads out from the processor's heat. I would assume the stock 1366 would have the same.

Why would i want a bluetooth enabled netbook?

I've used it to download pictures from my cell phone, and I believe some mice, keyboards, and other wireless devices use bluetooth as well.

New Monitor -- How do I go from a 1280x1024 to a new 1920 x 1080 monitor?

Shut down computer, unplug old monitor, hook up new monitor, start up computer, change to desired resolution. The new monitor will be able to display 1280x1024, it will just look ugly, so there's no need to change anything before.

I'd say no. The i5-750 performs very close to the i7-920. Also, getting the 920 will require getting a different motherboard because it's socket 1366 compared to socket 1156 for the i5-750. The cheapest socket 1366 motherboard on Newegg is $144. With that motherboard change comes triple channel...

Kinda confused as to why you'd want feedback after you've ordered everything, but since it's a budget build, and unless you're doing very heavy photoediting, you probably could have gone with 2 gigs of ram and saved $50.
