Computer freezes intermittently .. where do I start?

what OS are you running, check the event viewer around the time of the lockup, see if you are getting any errors. driver issues- what kind of pci cards, ect.. do you have?

hey guys, i am having a big problem with my buddies new setup. the computer wont boot half the time and the video signal seems to cut out on it.... most of the time just freezes during the post. anyway when it finally does come up and boot into windows (xp) it just randomly restarts about 3...

kt333 mobo poll

well it looks like th MSI board is the people's choice. i looked over the anandtech article and the only thing is that it looks like the raid controller on this board isnt the greatest choice. i want to hook raid up on the new board i get so do any of you using this board see a big performance...

i posted a question on here earlier thinking a new monitor i ordered from a friend was dvi, but apparently he seems to think it is dfp, has anyone heard of this connection??? its a compaq lcd monitor (model FP725-D). can i get a converter somewhere so he can hook this up to a regular video...

I just ordered a Compaq FP725-D LCD monitor for a buddy and he tells me the connection is different then his old monitor and he cant use it, is there a convertor or what is needed to be able to hook this up???

is this a good sound card, i have a sound blaster live! value, its giving my problems in xp now so i am just getting rid of the damn thing. is this a good replacement (i know the santa cruz) but i found this card for a good price, so i was just wondering, this wont give me ANY problems will it???

Windows XP can't do.....

hey guys, i am running athlon 1.4, 512mb ram, winxp, office xp, and i love it. only problem is that it is slower then when i had 98 on here. i got a dual boot setup, win98se on the fat32 partition and winxp on ntfs. is this slowing it down??? is it my sound blaster live??? what can i do to...

i am getting an error 3 executing batch while trying to partition my buddies drive. it is a wd harddrive 8 gig. it is running win98se. trying to form a 3 gig partition for xp. just wont do it. any ideas, or help on the error??? thanks. oh and i am using outdated, i know, partition magic...

i upgraded the firmware, DMA is checked off, i will go download the newest version, but that still doesnt explain why it worked before the format and not now, but if this works who cares!!!

updated to firmware 1.03, tried pio mode 4, took my cd rom off the controller with the burner so it was just the master and there was no slave. still freezing. heres the deal though the buffer at the bottom of the screen the write buffer i believe, goes to 99 or 100%, then the cd hits about...

ok now it gets to around 16% and it restarts my computer, what the hell. i went back to version 5.5.1.8 so that fixed it only detecting a max write of 12x. but still got problems........

i just defrag'd, i uninstalled it, reinstalled 5.5.3.0 this time. still no go. detects it fine except for the fact that it says max write speed is 12x instead of 16x, whats up ???

so then just leave the monitor on all the time??? or turn it off when i walk away from the computer??? i dont have a screensaver setup right now, should i just use one and never use the sleep function of the monitor???

ok i have my power settings setup so that my computer is always on and the harddrive never shutsdown, but i have the monitor turn off after 15 mins. well for the past few times i come back and move my mouse the orange light on the monitor (veiwsonic M70B) goes green, but the screen is pitch...

hey man, just a word of caution, if you shut down your computer and let it sit off for a while (over 10 mins) then power it up, the burner might start flashing again. mine was doing this, same problem you mentioned above. the weird thing is, if i pulled the power cord from the back and let it...

what's a good tbird 1.4 overclock?

yeah man that is pretty good. mine is currently at 1.533 which is on the low end it will run a little above 1.6 but freezes in heavy gaming, otherwise its stable. i would say you should be pretty damn happy with that, you are reaching the cores limit.

i have a 1.4 tbird, i have a dual boot system set up (98se, win2k). i went to overclock the processor and it works on the 98 side running at 1.533 (133 X 11.5) but when win2k fires up it freezes at the detecting network settings screen (before i even log in). any ideas???
