Laptops with trackpoint mouse

Ok, so here's the deal. I've been using Thinkpads for some time now, I've come to love the red trackpoint mouse and cannot use the touchpads that most other laptops have only. Now, as much as I like thinkpads, they just don't have some of the features that I'm looking for in a newer laptop...

Burned DVD's not working in Thinkpad T40 - what gives?

Are you kidding me? I though that DVD-ROM and DVD+R (or DVD-R) are supposed to be indistinguishable. My really really old DVD player can read DVD+R's just fine and it was made before DVD burners were around.

My bad, it was the Thinkpad R40 that has the firewire (at least their centrino model). Seems odd that their flagship model doesn't come with firewire, but their "economy model" comes with one.

IBM Thinkpad 600x: Is it still a good buy?

I second that, get a Thinkpad T20/21 instead for under $500 (I've seen T20's go for under $400). They start at 650 Mhz and go upwards to 800 Mhz which is still very respectable today.

what is decent subnotebook any recommendations?

IBM X series is a good place to start. I believe that the newer models X23, X24 and X30 have the really long battery life ~5hours. Also IBM has always been linux friendly.

Title says it all. I want to be able to change the startup resolution in windows 2000 to the same resolution as the desktop. By startup resolution I mean the resolution when it says "Starting windows 2000..." I know there must be some sort of hack to do this.

Getting a new laptop

If money is no problem then get the IBM X30, the best "mini" laptop period. Standard battery life is 5 hours, optional 8 hours with second battery. I think the thickness is just under an inch. You can also look at the X20,x21,x22,x23 on E-Bay if you don't mind a used laptop(and MUCH MUCH cheaper)

Check out eGay and look at the IBM T series laptops (T20,T21,T22) I got myself a T20 and WOW. Better than any dell, hp, compaq, gateway i've ever used. Once you go IBM, you will never go back. The T20 has some "heat issues" where the bottom gets hot, but it doesn't bother me all that. I think...

laser printer vs inkjet?

I had the same problem with my previous inkjet printers. I would use them only on occasion and when I did it seemed as though the ink dried up. Laser printers are great. They don't have the same problems associated with inkjets. The reason for that is that lasers have a toner and fuses the ink...

A little "off topic" but I have a '99 Nissan Maxima and the manual says to put 92 Premium. I think it's a load of crap and just put 87. Although I put 92 in there every once in a while so I always have a little of of 92 in the tank. ;)
