  1. Upgrading hard drive in PS3

concur. It is ridiculously easy, there are all kinds of how-to's online. The only mildly tricky part as I recall is the copy disc needs to be FAT32
  2. COD moving to subscription fee for enhanced content

I think this is behind a paywall, but from the WSJ: Consumers are used to paying $60 each for videogames that run on consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Now the publisher behind the industry's biggest videogame franchise—"Call of Duty"—is about to find out whether it can get...
  3. official veggie gardener's thread

Just planted . . . 3 rows of corn, roughly 12' a piece; 2 rows of wax beans, also 12'; one row of cucumbers, 5 "mounds" total; 1 row of cantaloupe, 4 mounds; 1 row of watermelon, 5 mounds, 2 varieties; and 9 tomato plants, various variety. It's my first summer in this house, we'll see if...
  4. D&D Daggerdale: XBLA/PSN co-op action RPG

Cool, I had a great time with the wife on Baldur's Gate on the PS2, also Dungeon Seige III is looking like a good co-op. Co-op is one area the latest generation has been really lacking imo, I'd be happy to see some good co-op (on the same console, not online) games.
  5. Easy game for 4yr old

If you have PS Move, Start the Party is a great game for 4 years olds, just hold a controller and whack things. My 4 year-old loves it. Also, Tumble is pretty good.
  6. Scariest moment ever for you in a game.

hmmm, scarriest moment, probably Planescape Torment. That dude had a lot of scars, he'd been killed like 5000 times.
  7. Finally bought a PS3.

A few good PSN games for less than $10.00 I think: Pixeljunk Monsters, fun tower defense Wipeout HD, zero G racer SuperStardust HD, arcade style asteroid update, Smash Cars
  8. Directtv USB wireless connection

Would this work for their newest HD DVR's? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-011-_-Product
  9. Just pulled the trigger on a 65"

I'm seriously considering the 73". How often do they have deals like this?
  10. 65" Panny S1 or 58" V10?

For roughly the same price ($2000 for the 58" V10, $2200 for the 65" S1) which would y'all get? Viewing is in a bonus room at about 10'. Thanks
  11. Big Green Egg. Does anyone have one?

    What do you currently have?
  12. Would this be useful to anyone?

I have an ASUS Maximus III Formula 1156 MB where apparently I bent the socket contacts ruining it. Couldn't RMA it, so I just got a new one. Would this be useful to anyone? It seems there should be a way to replace the socket, but that is way beyond my ken. 95% of the board is fine. Would...
  13. Only have money for 1 PS3 game

I have Sacred 2, I'll give it to you for $5.00. I couldn't get into it. PM me if you want it.
  14. why does a recruiter ask for your last year's withheld tax amount?

I'd be very suspicious unless this is a rock solid recruiter who you are sure is legit. Otherwise, it is a great way for identity theft and income tax fraud. That is how you can access your prior tax documents online and electronically file; that is just weird.
  15. We're screwed. Court rules against net neutrality.

It is a Ct. of Appeals for the Federal Circuit decision, so unless the US Supreme Court overturns it (probably pretty unlikely) it is the law of the land and cannot be appealed.
  16. Is the Xeon processor a server chip?

They (some models) have multiple QPI links which allows multiple CPUs in servers and other custom set-ups. A 7500 series can have a terabyte (or two) of RAM(!) for I'm sure about 100K or so (I'm guessing here). http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/products/server/processor/xeon7000/
  17. Anybody using Asus' Turbo V utility with Windows 7 64 bit?

Works fine for me in Win7 64 bit. Maybe try updating your BIOS? Did you look in the "hidden icon" spot?
  18. My friend lost his job. Because he was teh gay.

There are no federal laws protecting sexual orientation. The classes protected are race, gender, religion, national origin and color. A lot of state do have such laws but most in the South do not. Edit: oops, forgot disability.
  19. Is there a program that will display what time it is in PC games?

groovy, thanks. Clock beside computer (or watch for that matter) doesn't work because you get too engrossed in game to look. Wife yelling/throwing things at me does work, but want something more reliable and less painful. I'll try the Steam.
  20. Is there a program that will display what time it is in PC games?

So I don't play longer than I should? A simple program that will just say what time it is? This is for windows 7 if that makes any difference. Thanks.
  21. I am sick of supporting your children with my tax money.

Damn those black sisters inventing human cloning to increase their welfare!
  22. What was your first car

79 Fiat Brava, AKA the "Rustmobile." By far the crappiest car I ever owned (but was fun to drive!)
  23. Dui ffffuuuuuuu

ehh, check your state laws on that. Here in the Great State of North Carolina, if you refuse to blow, it's an automatic 1 yr. license suspension, plus a big fine. If you are not too toasted and don't have any priors, you should go ahead and blow (unless you know you're trashed) because the...
  24. "Green" Shoppers More Likely to Cheat and Steal.

A preacher, a doctor and lawyer are on a boat full of orphans which is starting to sink. The doctor immediately says, "We have to save the children!" The lawyer shouts back, "Fuck the children!" The preacher asks, "Do you think there's enough time?" Oldie but a goodie.
  25. "Green" Shoppers More Likely to Cheat and Steal.

They are back. They're called "carbon offsets" these days. Al Gore loves them while flying in his private jet.
  26. What is the legality behind pirating and then buying a game?

I agree with the poster above: pirating PC games is killing the industry and leading to crappier games. I always pay for my games for the basic principle that someone has spent their time. talent, effort and money making the game and I am stealing their time, talent, effort and money if I...
  27. Has digital distribution renders the bulk of DRM naysayer's arguments moot?

Sure. The bigger problem with piracy or "sharing" or whatever they are calling it these days is that for PC gamers in general, they are shooting themselves in the foot. What are the current so-far un-cracked platforms. Xbox 360 and PS3. Especially with XB live and the PSN, their DRM is...
  28. Why do engineers usually lack empathy?

It's high-functioning autism/aspergers. Most engineers are interested in things rather than people. This is classic autism spectrum behavior. They lack emotional intelligence, but have logical/spatial intelligence. This is good, because if we didn't have people like this, there would be no...
  29. Woke yesterday morning with swollen left foot

Probably gout. Do you smoke? Probably vascular if so.
  30. Would you take 50,000 dollars to abstain from sex for a year?

People do this for free all the time. It's called "marriage"
  31. What was the worst job you ever had?

Working house framing with a bunch of stoners in Georgia when I was 18, about got killed 4 or five times in a week. First 5 minutes I'm working there, we lift up a wall that was framed and it falls right over the side of the house and falls about 30 feet, about taking me with it. It went...
  32. What is your college major?

History then law school. Looking back, should have done a hard science, but I was too lazy, why work to learn something when you can just read it once and get it.
  33. what's currently the cheapest x58 motherboard?

Seriously, there is a motherboard called the "Flaming Blade?"
  34. New to computer building

I would get extra cooling for sure, if only because the stock cooling is a bit tricky to install the first time and is easy to get wrong, plus it will help w. overclocking. I like noctua myself, really any of them, they have a really solid and easy to install base.
  35. New to computer building

Agree, go with a 750, w. the 661 you are paying for graphics you're not using anyway because of the 5850. For the mobo, then go with a P55. Maybe this: GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $139.00 at newegg. I guess you need a case too :)...
  36. AS SSD Benchmark

Impressive Saga. Of course, for $900, it should be.
  37. Need help understanding benefit/downfall of using 5770s in crossfire

Great, I got 2 5770's in xf and they are silky smooth. I get perfect performance from them on a system that is almost exactly the same as yours (1920 x 1200, i5-750 etc).
  38. Intel X25-M Gen1 80GB SSD performing sluggish

In the all the older (2+ yrs) T-Series and x-series laptops there is an issue where the SATA II runs only 1.5 GB/sec instead of 3.0 GB/sec. This will slow it down a little bit if you have that issue (something about sharing bandwidth with the "ultradrive"). Second, go to Lenovo's support...
  39. Is the Intel 80gb THE DRIVE to get these days?

I've got two of the Intel 160 x-25M G2's. Just get it, you won't be disappointed. Just remember to install the firmware, enable AHCI and run the "Intel SSD" tool once a week and it is the best price performance you will get right now IMO.
  40. mATX LGA1156 MB with good onboard audio?

This is a top rated 1156 Micro ATX: GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 LGA 1156 Intel P55 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128405 $105.00 @ newegg read this review: We are honored to present our Gold Editors' Choice award to GIGABYTE for their...
