Just as a tidbit, the ricoh +R's are manufactured at Ritek's factories under the Quality Control of the Ricoh folks.

Dvd-r/rw questions

a) I think all those models are top quality so it depends on personal preferences b) A 1X burner takes 60 minutes to burn a full DVD. An 8x burner will take 7.5 minutes. Plus, you gotta add a minute or 2 for the open and closing sessions. -Shmorq

DVD Media question

Wireless Keyboard and Mice with KVM Switch

I use a Logitech Wireless Duo with my IOGear KVM switch and everything works perfectly. The only thing I can't do is monitor the battery life. I don't know what your problem can be, but wireless devices can be used with a KVM switch.

Pioneer a06 or Sony DRU-510ak????

My Pioneer DVR-106 rips at 2x which I believe all burners do because of legal reasons. From what I hear though, there are hacked firmware that will allow you to rip much faster. But like Todd33 said, just get a separate DVD-ROM for ripping.

NEC 1300A vs Pioneer DVR-106.. which is the better dvd burner?

I have the Pioneer DVR106 and I've had no problems burning to the edges on Memorex (Ricoh) +R medias and Ritek -R medias and they all play fine on my DVD player. I believe that when the DVD can't be read past 4GB, it's more a function of crappy media rather than the burner. -Shmorq

How long does it take to burn a dvd?

1x = 60 minutes 2x = 30 minutes These are the time minus the lead-in and lead-out burning time which adds a couple of more minutes. -Shmorq [Edit] I thought you were asking about burning a full DVD+/-R. I'm too lazy to do the math to see high much faster a 2x DVD burn is compared to a 2x CD...

new! Matrox P650

I actually have a Matrox card (G550) so hopefully I'll be spared.:P I guess analog 2D quality is still important for the professionals that run at higher than 1600x1200 on CRT monitors. But further down the line when LCDs are more common, I wonder what their main selling point will be.

Is there any way to save a movie trailer?

If you're using Internet Explorer, you can right click on the link to the movie and select "save link as". If that doesn't work, you can pause the movie, go into your temporary internet files directory, and copy the *.mov file to another directory. I've done this plenty of times with Flash...

KVM Problems

I have an IOGear (don't know the model number) and every short cut key works fine with my oldie Logitech Cordless keyboard and mouse. So it's just a matter of finding a KVM switch that is compatible with your stuff. Unfortunately, it's not so easy to verify this other than to read through...

laptop battery weakens over time

The battery performance always decreases with time. I found over the years that my battery retains its capacity for a bit longer if I don't have the battery plugged in while I'm using AC. Other than this, I don't know how else to increase the life of the battery. -Shmorq

CD Audio Question: ripping a single audio track

Let's say I have a single song as CD audio file. Is there a way to extract the drums and nothing else from the file? I don't know of any, but I don't know enough about CD's to be sure. Thanks. -Shmorq

Performance question...

I was under the impression that the older Athlons didn't utilize the extra bandwidth from DDR RAM very well. I would personally save the $350 for now and upgrade when you save enough for the new processor as well. It's a good chance that the MB and RAM prices might be a little cheaper then...

Is Enermax EG365P-VE (350W) power supply enuf to power...

The Enermax EG365P-VE should be able to provide enough power. It's +12V rail can supply about 16 or 17 Amps which is enough to run your processor, hard drives, and burner at full load. Your other power supply might've had more power overall, but it was probably weak on the rails where your P4...

If you want no noise with pretty decent cooling, get the Alpha 8942 and attach a low noise 80mm fan. But like THUGSROOK mentioned, the Alpha has a hefty price.
