DSL Speed

In ANY home where it's more than 2 boxes / lappy's, 3 + is the way to go.. after that, add an additional Mb to every other device...this is to avoid network bogs and possibly headaches when EVERY device is connected...^like that post said as well that Jack has, upstream DOES matter. <---5 PC's...

Got a trojan, think I cleared it - check my log?

^but wouldn't you want to do a system repair with the OS disc?...a trojan can be a pesky one, depends, but still to be on the clear side, let it repair, and it'll do a CHDSK and you'll know if things are ok....(that's unless you've actually encountered rootkit malware)

Dell Laptop literally exploded... looking for next steps

WOW...as I read this, I immediately unplugged my laptop (or was her's running, just off the battery?) fearing the same...lol.. what a crazy event that had to be....hopefully this isn't going to become a trend.

MSE and Avast are about the same, no winner...all have specific qualities that make them different. As for your cleaning, files are missing, so how about pop in the O/S disc and repair. Otherwise, looks good. Any concern about a process, you should check here...

Best and most stable wireless router?

DLink IMO are the most crappiest...maybe I'm wrong, but from experience, I'd rather go the way of Linksys, even with stock. I currently have both DLink and Linksys, Linksys with DDWRT. Best thing I could have done. (To Jack, I don't believe if it's an issue with it being, casual or hard user...

Question about using Windows XP service pack 2 disc on a Dell

I'm with Jack, you can do it, I do it all the time. <--owner of 5 Dell's, 2 OS' discs So you know the discs aren't for the other systems. I switch PC's back and forth from XP to Vista all the time, without having to register a product key, it does it on it own.

it may be the router, and the PC's on the router may be conflicted. Why I say Router - may need to increase lease time, check out whether your router has connect on demand/keep alive. PC - is it static or dynamic?, are there other PC's in your home (are they static/dynamic). Whatever it is...

HDD partition is failing(new hdd=same problem)

I truly don't understand why HDD have to fail????? If the system is correct, Raid's set correctly, or even under a Raid0, why do they still fail?..but yet and still, I've have a PC for years!, with the same HDD (never changed it out, same factory one), and it's funny those don't happen to fail...

Deleted Large File, Hard Drive won't get space back.

I know what your talking about. This was the case on a external hard drive (and presently still the case) I have. It's a 750 GB HDD, but it shows that space used. I deleted ALOT of files at once, which had to total more 30GB and that space was never recovered. All the files I deleted we're in...

You can go the quick route of purchasing the cable to copy data... OR you can put up a nice wall of AV's, Malware Progs., etc to catch the problem. Why don't you try Run > msconfig / or services.msc > and turning off certain services to see if the pop-ups are being executed from a service you...
