Ok at work we have a couple Dell Precision m4600 laptops. These were ordered at the end of 2011, first of 2012 and came loaded up with windows 7. The version of 7 they came with had "xp mode" which we use at work on a daily basis. If I am correct, the current versions of 7 that Dell ships do...
A good many people in this thread don't get it at all. Of course all of us read dialog boxes and pay attention to our computers and are nerds. The problem is that 99 percent of those using windows do not, especially older non tech savvy people and work computers where a user does not have time...
Where I work, we are running a untangle box/ firewall on a old athlon 64 system I built back in maybe 2003 or 2004? It has a epox motherboard anybody remember those? I used to love their boards what happened to them? Anyway it is running the drive it was built with, a maxtor diamondmax plus 9...
I call bs on saying that a g1610 cannot run 1080p video without loading up to 100 percent. Something was wrong with the setup. Even a 1037u, (1.8 ghz) doesn't do this. I agree that h81 is a nice chipset for the money.
nice biostar finally booted it out the door! Better late than never I guess. I am not sure how long it will sell, but the newer celerons such as the 2955u are not much of a upgrade. The idle watts may be down by one or two, but with the lower clock speeds the performance is probably a wash.
I agree this is the reason. Industrial type business machine replacements is probably the situation this is most seen good for. Some things are still fine on ide though. I have a dvd burner that is ide, and there is no reason to swap it out at all unless it broke. Some of the best dvd drives...
Some claim that external drives are internal drives that are culled because they don't pass as rigorous a inspection. I don't know if that is true or not, but if it is then the price savings might not be worth it.
That is pretty cool that seagate is finally coming out with a 9mm 2.0 tb drive.
one disadvantage to a solid state type drive, is that if the drive is not powered up for long periods the data can be at risk. How much of a risk this is varies depending on the type of flash chips used. This is not true for a spindle type drive unless it sits for years and years. You would...
just ordered me a silverstone ps08b today. It def. looks more office and less gamerish. It seems to be about the smallest case you can get for m-atx boards, which was something I liked. Very few cases at that price point have either a front 120mm fan/ filter, or usb 3.0 ports either one. It...
There are 2.5 drives larger than 1tb there are 2tb ones out they are just thicker than the 1tb are. Some notebooks that will work in, some it will not. To me, these are more useful drives for external enclosures (usb powered only) such as the wd passport drives, & small form factor...
motherboard is a biostar A880G+. It has been reliable so far, and I have another samsung1tb and ssd on the other ports working fine. I didn't fool with the cables, because they have the locking metal clips, no way they could have backed out. If it does it again I guess I could switch the...
Ok I had something weird over the weekend. On friday when I turned on my computer, my 2tb samsung drive gave a AHCI port error. Two times in a row the computer failed to boot because it flagged a error on that port during post. On the third attempt it booted normally, but every disk checking...
This confirms what I figured...that it just doesn't make much of a difference. The cpu speed and graphics onboard aren't fast enough for dual channel to matter. It seems those interested in a gaming rig or much graphic work would go with at least a g3220 pentium or a i3 and discrete graphics...
Ok I know this is something not many have probably dealt with, I have a older socket 754 system I am letting my son use for the next few months until I upgrade and kick my current system his way. This board has sata ports, so I plan to put a older ssd (owc 3g 40gb drive) on it to give it a much...
I am aware of the power consumption of the 1007u...the difference in it and a 1037u is something like 1.5 or 2 watts. I think the greater processing power is going to be way more than worth it for such a small amount of difference. In the end you are going to have to end up upgrading the board...
No it doesn't have to be low profile. I do understand the psu sucks... But...I have the cpu at stock voltages, so I hoped that would help me. I guess my budget is like 50 to 75 bucks, I don't really want to spend even 100 but I don't mind putting a decent card in it, because before long I...
I am running a amd x4 610e (o/c to 2.8 ghz) htpc system as my main rig for probably another year or so, until I can afford a complete new build. It has 4gb ram, a ssd drive etc. The motherboard has crappy onboard graphics, and I want to stick in a video card that will have fairly low power...
I have two apc units at work, one is a es500 (be500r) the other is a es550 (be550r) They both have the same number of outlets, both take the same size battery, so is there any benefit at all to one over the other?
Biostar or newegg one have taken leave of their good senses :hmm:
I have been following the 847 celeron biostar board on newegg's ebay page. It has been 59.00 for the last couple weeks. Now I look today, and it is at 89 bucks...really? Who the heck is going to pay that.
I looked and this...
Does anybody know if the "NO Z" overclock is still working on boards like the H87M pro4? I know it was back in the summer, and intel planned to force the vendors to change the microcode (bios) to make this not possible :/ I just wondered if anybody here had first hand experience?
I don't have the answer whether this cpu is powerful enough for the type of transcoding that you want to do, but why would you use this particular board? I would go for a 1037u for sure.
I think this is a cool drive especially for people who are trying to build in a small form factor. Lots of small itx cases have space for two 2.5 drives, so this would let you have this drive for a boot drive, and then if you mounted another 2 tb 2.5 you could have over 3 tb storage in a small...
sounds like crucial should just stick to regular oem replacement and add on ram...that is what I always used to use them for, I don't know how many people I sent to them to upgrade their netbooks...back when those were big. We have used them at work to upgrade laptops too. Their sodimms seem...
for those using integrated video this will be far from a fail...
anyway, eventually everything will go ddr4. Everybody said the same thing about ddr3 when it first came out...the first implementations of things are always not as good as later on. For those with a dedicated video card this...
A decent work-around is to use a fast thumb drive for ready boost. This is pretty worthless at 4gb and above, but I can def. tell on this system I have with 1.5gb ram that it does help and cuts down the swapping. The problem is, a good many older systems, (mine included) refuse to boot with a...
it would be funny to see a test like you mentioned escrow4 :P
this socket 754 system I have...it has a 3000+ newcastle chip in it. I o/c it last night close to 2.2ghz and it still would not play even 360p youtube properly. I am running windows 7 with the latest version of chrome. It seems...
I still have my 6x86 166+ system and it still runs windows 98:P Mine was actually labeled IBM instead of cyrix. I think cyrix designed this chip and ibm manufactured it. I have it o/c to 150 mhz woohoo
I am tinkering with a socket 754 amd 3000+ system for my son who is five. It has 1.5 gb ram. It has a sata port, I think if I put a ssd on it it would be decent. Flash does hurt it but maybe I can o/c it some. Anybody got a old agp card laying around they aren't using? This thing has a...
I'm not saying these are great computers...they are certainly not efficient but people are throwing them under the bus maybe a bit too much...
At work we have a p4 at 3.0ghz with 512mb ram running xp. It will play youtube vids fullscreen at 720p with about 65 to 70 percent cpu usage. I'm not...
which versions of linux would be good for a system like this? I know a good many recent linux distros take nearly as much horsepower as windows...obviously something like puppy linux would run well, but is there something in between that would run acceptably on 512mb ram and a p4/ amd single...
HAHA that sounds similar to what we had going on here. It is a good thing the precisions come along with such good warranties eh? D: Good luck fixing that thing. I'm not surprised at the description Matt gave of why they fail. These laptops get VERY hot under a steady load
It is interesting that the ecs board has a full length pci-e slot. That is a surprising addition. Is it worth anything though? I don't see the point in adding a video card to these. The cpu is a good deal better than previous systems like this (e-350, atom etc) but it still isn't up to...
Do we know for a fact that newegg is the only retailer holding stock on the 847's? I mean maybe they are I haven't looked for them anywhere else...just curious if we know that is what biostar is waiting on?
Most of ours when the video would go bad, had crazy green blocking and artifacts on the screen, but that did not happen every time...sometimes it was just black.
We had several of these at work a few years back, and every single one of them had the dedicated videocard fail one machine had it fail twice. Ours had the nvidia quadro cards in them. It might be something to check.
I am not surprised, there is not enough ipc difference to overcome 400mhz of clockspeed. Why in the heck do they not release a 2.0ghz. It becomes more important since these chips do not have the turbo function. Intel is in a funny position now, because now that even the lowly celeron is...
Yeah but even without the upgrades, as is this thing kicks a atom or e-350 type netbook all over the map and it's the same price :P Newegg charges 10 percent tax for me, that is the excuse I need to behave and not buy it lol but I agree that it is a very good deal.
I am not sure who did that testing, but they seem to be idiots or else something was really gimped about their hardware or setup... My test ties very closely with the result from the laptop that nforce found. 21.517 on super pi. The a5200 is a inferior product to the 1037u and 1007u in cpu...
I will run super Pi 1m tonight on my parents 1037u and report back on the results. Got to do it soon I deliver it to them this weekend
and won't have it to play around with anymore :(
gigabyte board looks awesome, that heatsink is cool, but no usb 3.0 and pci...super legacy system for...
