Yeah, also found out the source and it was for SysMark: https://twitter.com/intelnews/status/829773829471744000 So desktop Coffee Lake 8700k is essentially Kaby Lake 7700k, performance-wise, but with 50% more cores/threads, no?

Depends on how you define "little". The 7700k offers 10-15% improvement over a 4790k in games. If what Intel claims is true - that Coffee Lake has a 15% increase in IPC over Kaby and if it can clock to 4.5ghz+, then you'd be looking at a 20-25% increase in performance over a 4790k with 50% more...

Thanks for this, but it seems PCGH took down the Anno 2205 and Starcraft 2 LotV benchmarks. Those two games scale really well with clocks don't know why they took it down.

Wow that is a hihgly interesting and impressive piece of work. Thanks, looking forward to it! And since you now have a 1070, if you wouldn't mind, try adding Arkham Knight into the mix. That game is more CPU intensive than what most people think it was.

Kinda offtopic, but just want to add, if we're talking about games, IMO, Starcraft 2 would be the most revealing game if you want to test a CPU's single core gaming performance. Starcraft 2 should be in every single game-based CPU benchmarks. Not to mention since the game is absolutely CPU...

I agree. But I'm upgrading from a laptop, so it'll make a big difference. I'll go for a desktop KL next year.

Me! The 1080 ti's performance is the sweet spot for 1440p 144hz gaming right now. I'll be upgrading from a ROG laptop so it'll be a glorious upgrade and the timing is impeccable with Kaby Lake. I can't wait for next year.

I'm planning to do the same. However, after researching a bit, I've been told that advertised XMP profiles are pretty much hit or miss and will not work 100% of the time. Do you think it's worth the risk paying the hefty premium of DDR4 4000?

So the compatibility of the board and the RAM is the deciding factor and not the board and RAM themselves as long as I'm not OCing past the advertised XMP of the RAM? Nice, that's good to hear because my plan is to buy the G.SKILL TridentZ kit (either the 3600mhz cl15 or the 4000mhz cl19 one).
