David Schor: Intel 10nm in big problems

I'm astonished this has happened again. ASTONISHED. Who could've possibly predicted.

Coffeelake thread, benchmarks, reviews, input, everything.

I can't say I understand the continued enthusiasm and speculation about the remaining Coffee Lake chipsets and processors. I'm out for this generation (hopefully just this one?). I mean, if your desperation for an upgrade was low enough that you didn't pony up for Z370 instead of waiting for...

Every Windows 10 Update is a New Disaster

I don't care if an exploit is developed which causes laptops to grow legs, retrieve knives, and murder their owners. I don't care if my mother gets ALL the spyware (Windows 10 is already just spyware). Literally every single forced update (of which switching to Windows 10 itself was one) screws...

    How real is CL / MHz * 1000 ?

I've read that in trying to estimate the interaction of latency and clock speed for memory this formula can be used: CL / MHz * 1000 = best responsiveness in milliseconds But how far / how seriously can you really take that? I don't have trouble believing that DDR4-3733 with CL17 could be...

    Send Bank Account # Securely

I sold some gear to a friend in the UK. Turns out international checks can take months so I want him to wire my money. It seems unwise to have my Bank Account # in plaintext on Gmail servers for all time, and Verizon seems to want me to sign up for a whole separate International Calling plan to...

Interesting that 7400->8400 appears to be a more compelling upgrade than 7700K->8700K.

I'm really interested in Coffee 4/4 i3 vs Kaby 4/4 i5 comparisons. 8350 looks tempting.

Who's buying a 6 core Coffee Lake CPU? (Poll Inside)

What's this about 6 cores? What I read is that Intel just made their 4/4 parts cheaper :D

How does the 2500K look today?

The 2600K is lucky enough to have been run in some modern benchmarks; you can compare it to Kaby Lake on a number of data points in Bench. My poor 2500K is not so lucky. Unfortunately I'd say that the 2600K vs Kaby Lake comparisons aren't blow-outs, at least in most metrics. However, looking...

Which benchmarks for AutoCAD, Inventor, Bridge/ACR

I do 2D in AutoCAD, 3D in Inventor, and lots of raw image conversion in Bridge/ACR/Photoshop. Couldn't care less about gaming if I tried. Which benchmarks are the most meaningful to me? I don't mind going to other sites if Anandtech's reviews don't include what I need.

    Javascript Responsive Images with MatchMedia

I'm trying to work out a short and simple solution to responsive images (only loading smaller or larger images, depending on screen size) using Javascript's MatchMedia. (Yes, I'm aware this can sorta be done in CSS3 by using background-image, but that's hack-y and not ideal for me). I've been...

I just want a shopping cart!!

"Build your entire site" CMS like PrestaShop or WordPress drive me crazy. I can't add so much as an h1 or a table without sifting through a 20,000 line CSS file to get rid of a random margin-left, border-top, or mismatching font. It's not worth it unless you're listing hundreds of items or...

    Civilization V or Civilization IV?

I'm just gonna say it - I like V a little better. I've wanted City-States since II, hexes are just better, infinite unit stacks were the worst (although I wish V would let you stack a little - 2 or 3 units), I like the religion system better... Man, the system requirements are crazy, though...

    Civilization V: Brave New World

The full expansions yes, the DLCs no. They're just bonus Civs (although I love Polynesians, and play with them constantly. I think they're going to be included in BNW though)

    30" 2560x1600 Korean IPS or 27" 1080 120hz TN?

Sorry, I'll try to make that post more straightforward. http://www.leesaxon.com/forums/Anandtech-Upsampling.jpg If you captured this image at 600x800, you would get the image on the left. If you captured this image at 300x400 and scaled it 2:1 (or "used 4 pixels to display 1" as you put it...

    30" 2560x1600 Korean IPS or 27" 1080 120hz TN?

I did nothing to degrade the original crop. I resized it to 300x400 and then resized it back up to 600x800 to simulate an image recorded at 300x400 then doubled in size. Simply resizing 1200x1600 (an image recorded at 600x800 then doubled in size) produces EXACTLY the same pixelation. I did it...

    30" 2560x1600 Korean IPS or 27" 1080 120hz TN?

There's no question that 2:1 scaling is far better than some oddball resampled uneven amount (I'm looking at you, Nexus 10 [beautiful 326ppi panel ruined by nondefeatable odd scaling]). But you can only get away with that below a certain size, after which the insufficient amount of detail...

    30" 2560x1600 Korean IPS or 27" 1080 120hz TN?

As I said, whose vision is good enough for that? Even running a 30" at 1920x1200 I have trouble seeing the text and icons in some programs.

    30" 2560x1600 Korean IPS or 27" 1080 120hz TN?

For me, the scaling artifacts with 1600p panels (whose vision is good enough run those things at native resolution? not me!! I need my icons more than 3mm wide) are worse than the shitty color of the TN panels and TVs. YMMV. If by "scales well" you mean "fits and is the same shape." It looks...

    Dell U2413 Screen Tearing

    Non-native resolutions and hardware scalers

I love having a 30" monitor but I am too blind to use the native 2560x1600 resolution. I have a Dell 3007 which I've read doesn't have a hardware scaler. It's disturbingly blurry at 1920x1200. Will this problem be much less severe with newer monitors that do have a hardware scaler?

What is RAID and what does it do?

THANK YOU. I've had so many people deny that on these forums, and tell me I'd just had bad luck the 7054298032890325 times I've tried it. "Motherboard RAID will be fine" yeah right.

any word on Intel X-25M G3?

That's exactly what I want. So far we've been getting the "same price (or even higher), better performance" next-gen SSDs. "Same performance, better price" side of Moore's law is the side I prefer. I'm cheap.

    27" @ 2560x1440, or 30" @ 2560x1600 for $300 more

Even 30" 2560 is too small I'm going freaking blind trying to read my screen even at the 150% zoom mode. I think 27" 2560 would actually make your eyes burst into flames. I'd pay so much money for 27" 1920x1200...

    P8P67 firmware: 1003 or 1053

One of two P8P67 Pro's I've bought refused to flash either, told me neither was a BIOS file. The other flashed the exact same files off the exact same drive and has been running on 1053 no problem. So YMMV.

    New build locking up

I figured that was only for, like, "real" overclocking. Should it be flipped on for XMP profile RAM? I'll give that a try.

    New build locking up

No, Windows loads properly, but after a short while locks up. I've given those suggestions a try, no luck. PSU's a Corsair AX750, definitely not underpowered. I did rule out GPU and SSD by running them successfully in another system. And I've tried all my RAM sticks individually with no luck...
