SETI BOINC 4.09 speed increase

Well, sadly I can't report anything but bad news. I don't have any perfect way to compare, but so far, all my P3 based machines are taking 15m, 30m or 1hr more (depending on the speed of the CPU) to do the WU's that I've seen. Of course, the only thing I have to base this on is hand-written...

:shocked: SB... Seek help man! Before your addiction goes too far! ;) I'm the complete opposite of ya man... got tired of the noise and now I'm running an Antec 'quiet' case with one BIG, slow-swinging 120mm to do it all.... with lots of Zalman passive cooling inside. :)

SETI BOINC 4.09 speed increase

I just got 4.09 installed on all 7 of mine today (late-afternoon), so gimme some time to accumulate some WU's and I'll let you know. :) Now that I have BOINCView installed and monitoring both home and work machines, I don't have to worry about catching the WU's before they flush out...

Seti for BOINC detailed server-status-page.

Yep, good stuff for sure. They're finally starting to get more kinks worked out of S@H BOINC... I've been running a portion of my machines on CPDN to make sure that they never run out of work, but I've had no trouble keeping the SETI WU's going happily. :)

For what it's worth, S@H BOINC showed a brief glimmer of life for me about 1 hour ago. 1 of my clients just happened to get an answer back from the scheduler and attempted to d/l 8 WU's. 3 of them succeeded a 5 of them failed for various weird reasons. I know it's not much, but I think it...

saabcaptain, I'm also still sort of trying to settle on my 'mix' of the BOINC projects. At the moment, I've biased my settings toward S@H, with enough towards CPDN to make sure even my slower machines don't fail to finish a WU in time (them are some big suckers, eh?!) to have them expire...

Why are people so desperate to install WinXP SP2?

Oh YES! :D ...or at least it would be, if all things were working right. Nothing worse than having something go wrong with your BOINCer. :P ...except possibly that problem of wanting to BOINC, but having nothing available to BOINC! ;)

Is there a BOINC mirror?

Personally, I just set my profile to 99% SETI and 1% Predictor on BOINC. That way, during 'dry' times from S@H, at least I'm doing something valuable and don't have to worry about fiddling with clients. Of course, the fact that I've now done nearly as much Predictor work as S@H is rather...

BOINC WU question...

BOINC's been umm... having some problems for the last few days. :( It's NORMAL for your work to take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days to show up, but this last few days have been worse than usual. Supposedly they are getting things taken care of, so me and at least a few others...

Nope, I've tried the installer that came with the 3.20 BOINC installer and it gives me errors when trying to install the service from the cli. :( And no, it's not any silly administrator privileges thing... I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR. (which makes installing BOINC so easy for me at work. ;) )

After a long time without posting, I'm having the same problem now. I know the '-' was added to the end of my name as a result of some board change in the long-ago past, but it would suffice to just have it removed. Anythin that can be done about it? :confused:

Hehe, somebody noticed me... but I'm not exactly new. ;) RaySun2Be should probably remember me... OrangeKid too, since I think I coordinated the first meet that we had. Been crunching SETI since May of last year and finally got all my machines over to BOINC in the last few days.

Question about DNet Dos Clients

mordrid52, There may be some way to run it in the background using some sort of 3rd party software, but to the best of my knowledge, there is nothing inherent to the client that will allow this. I wish I could be more help, but I think the answer is just plain, no. :( -Brian

Why I won't upgrade to the latest client when it's released.

Jator, If all you're doing is RC5 on Intel P6 cores, then I'd tend to agree... They appear to have milked all the performance they can out of that combination. However, we all clearly saw MAJOR improvements in OGR performance on Intel's with the .8012 version. Also, the jump in OGR from .8009...

I hear about seti and about rc5 but why no OGR???

There are plenty of OGR people on the team!! I don't think we'd be the #1 team in that contest otherwise... I suppose that since we're doing fairly well in OGR, we're not desperately trying to grow our #'s. Also, DNet completely ceased updating their page that shows how far we've progressed...
