R9 290X memory clock causing lag in flash video playback

Actually I don't think it is the memory clock, since it's going up and down while watching a live twitch stream, but there's no lag. Probably just some other form of driver issue. I'll try reinstalling.

Yeah, it downclocks to 150MHz idle at stock, and that's fine. I just can't understand why it has suddenly started failing to clock up properly with some flash videos (but not others).

CPU coolers - is there anything worthwhile between £20-£50?

You don't by any chance have an AMD stock cooler? I recall mine being hideously loud. I think your best bet is getting the True Spirit 140. It's very cheap for the thermal performance, and the acoustics compare very favorably to other coolers. Here are a couple of reviews: RWLabs and HardOCP.

I just threw an old Akasa 120mm fan I had lying around on the Hyper 212+. I was only testing at 4.4ghz w/ 1.35Vcore and saw temps of 70 (+/-2) degrees, so it doesn't seem to have made a great deal of difference. I'm thinking that I'll probably get an H100 soon after Christmas.

I broke 4.5ghz! It turns out (unsurprisingly) that the answer was more voltage. I'm currently at 4.5ghz with 1.40v VCore, 5 step LLC and PLL overvoltage on. 4.6ghz booted at these settings, but failed Prime95 after 5-10mins, so I assume it would require 1.41-1.42v. The downside to this is that...

Interesting to see that I'm not alone, I guess this is the price we pay for early adoption. I'll probably set things at my normal overclock and leave them there. Judging by the BIOS Windows is just misreporting the values.

I'm seeing Speeds of up 3.96ghz with the task manager, despite it reporting a maximum speed of 3.60ghz. CPU Utilization is oddly high (around 5-8% whilst playing music and web browsing) and I've had occasional hangups. I'm going to reset to stock clocks and see what happens.

Overclock issue, i7 2600k/Gigabyte Mobo BIOS

i5 2500k 4ghz OC limit?

In case anyone is still interested, I've got things working with a 4.4ghz stable overclock using this guide: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=693613 I think it was disabling EIST that made the difference (although C3/C6 still allows me to throttle back to 1.6ghz at idle).

BSOD with any kind of OC (i5 2500k)

I think that disabling EIST (and possibly C1 states) probably made the difference. I'm now successfully running at 4.4ghz stable, 4.5ghz won't boot so I guess it would need PLL Overvoltage which I would rather avoid.
