Intel to segregate Mainstream and Enthusiast Platforms even more with Sandy Bridge

Usually I don't even hit 100% on my Yorkfield, where would I need 6 or even 8 cores for? I'd rather stick to my 775 platform until the very last minute, till there's an absolute must to upgrade to a new platform+cpu, gpu's and a new ssd seems to be a much better upgrades these days..

I've tried lowering the vcore now.. everything below 1.3v would cause an error in prime within 2 min on all cores.. running prime @ 1.3v for 10 min now, no errors yet :) btw, nvidia system monitor cpu temps are around 4-5c higher than those of core temp, which one should I trust?

At the stock speed its fine it's just that 2 cores seem to perform very bad.. (#1 and 4) so I haven't tried above 3.2 ghz I'll try lowering the vcore this evening, and test again The mobo is pretty crappy indeed, it has never been very stable with random lockups even at stock speeds.. I had to...

I'm currently trying to get my q9450 to a stable 3.2ghz I've increased the vcore from 1.28 to 1.32.. NB is @ 1.5v instead of 1.3v everything works fine, it seems stable.. but each time I run prime95 core #4 fails after 3 min, the others work fine for more than 1 hour now.. anyone got any ideas...

T4400 @ 2.2 ghz - 288 q9450 @ 2.66 ghz - 384 during the test it switches to different cores all the time, why is this?

I think your wrong on this point, the GTX480 will probably have 512 cores The chip exists out of 16 parts, each contain 32 cores Probably the GTX 470 has 1 or 2 defect parts losing 2x32=64 cores 512-64= 448 foila

I think you're right on that point, if the heat would increase linear with the speed (which won't happen ofcourse) the maximum I could get out of it would probably be around 15% more although I find that pretty optimistic.. but i'll give it a try ;) thanks for the info :)

So if i'm correct the 2 videocards are 105w each maximum (according to nvidia's website) that's 210w they are both on a 12v rail with 18 amps 12x18= 216w per rail that's 216-105=111w left that is still usable so there shouldn't be any problems, am I right?

Quad-core or Dual-core ? Which one do I pick ?

Since the last patch World of Warcraft now officialy supports quad cores as well, it gave me a 50%+ performance increase ingame
