Just an update but my system seems to be running just fine with the new ATI 4850 card. I have not installed any montoring yet but I see that the Catalyst drivers have an OVERDRIVE section that if I turn on, I can monitor temp, control the fan, overclock, etc.
For now though, I think I am good...
I had the exact same issue as well in my XPS 420 and posted in a separate thread. I changed to an ATI Radeon 4850 and now I can boot into Windows without the bluescreen. I tested BF2 for about an hour without issues. However, I ran 3dMark 05 and while all of the video card tests seemed fine...
Here is what I tried that did not work:
1) Reseat the 8800GT card.
2) Download and install the latest 8800GT drivers. Note - I uninstalled the NVidia drivers first by setting them to VGA, then rebooting, then uninstalling, then rebooting, then installing the latest drivers. This did not help...
