Cool, thanks for the response guys - now I know it isn't just me. It would be nice for all the cores to idle around low 30's though.

Yeah, I figured it might be uneven surface on heatsink or CPU, but I don't really want to lap either one of them. I guess I'll try reapplying TIM and reseating the heatsink and see if that does anything.

I'm using Core Temp to get these temps and loading with prime95. I have no problem with 55 C, but I am wondering if the difference between Core 0 and Core 3 is normal or too much.

Acer is running XP. I'll try changing the channels to see if that does anything. And Jack, I know the speeds are "good enough", but I'm not satisfied with "good enough" when I'm paying good money for "better" you know? Not to mention, it's annoying the hell out of me not knowing why the...

What could be the problem?

I've tried connecting the Acer directly, but the speeds were still the same. There's no way I can connect the desktop though since the router is too far away.

I recently got the 10mbps/2mpbs FIOS connection, but am getting varying speed tests and I have no idea why. Over at speedtest.net, I'll get about 10mpbs/1.8mpbs on an older Macbook (2005 model), but on my Acer 4620Z, I get about 1.5mpbs/1mpbs, and on my desktop(using Asus P5K-E Wifi AP to...

Ah, that might be a factor. I haven't installed OS yet but I'll report back once I do. *Edit - Uh, okay. I just flashed the bios and now the temp is idling at 26-27C which seems right. I guess the old bios was REALLY off?

Q6600 temp too high on TRUE-120?

I have a G0 and the TRUE-120 isn't lapped and is stock (it isn't 100% smooth). As for room temp, it's about 70-75 degrees with the window open and cold air coming in. But right now, the mobo, cpu, ram, and vid card are outside of the case. I was flashing the bios after setup so I'm making sure...

Q6600 temp too high on TRUE-120?

I haven't OC'ed or anything yet and the idle temp is at 44-45 degrees celcius in bios. I thought the temp was too high so I unmounted the TRUE-120, cleaned off the thermal paste with alcohol, and did everything again. Idle temp is still 44-45. Is this too high for a TRUE-120?

Well, I don't have any compatible cheap ram laying around here so I couldn't try the swapping out the ram method. I tried booting with no ram, but still no beeps. It should beep indicating that there's no ram installed... Also tried booting with one stick of ram... still nothing.

Newly built comp not posting

I just got done building a comp and I'm not getting anything to post on the screen. When I power it on, everything turns on but I'm not getting beeps from the mobo. Any idea what the problem/s might be? Config: Asus P5K-E Wifi Intel Q6600 G0 with TRUE-120 Crucial Ballistix 2x1gb PC2-6400...

Quick question for P5K-E owner with TRUE 120

The mobo isn't in the case yet cuz he was still throwing stuff together. But yeah, I just wanted to know if it can be placed in any direction seeing as the bottom of the heatsink and the surface of the cpu are square.

To clarify my question, here's a picture showing the fan facing towards the vid card. The thing is, the person who took this picture is using a P5K-E too, but I wanna know is if the TRUE HAS to be placed the way it is in the picture or can I make place it turning it 90 degrees to the right...

Quick question for P5K-E owner with TRUE 120

When mounting the TRUE 120 on the cpu, is the fan side of the TRUE supposed to be facing downward towards the vid card or to the right towards your ram and optical drive? Does it even matter or is it a personal preference thing depending on which way you want the air being sucked into your TRUE?

Now that I think about it, isn't 500GB a little too much for a primary drive? Or at least for me anyway. I have a 320GB storage drive and that's been plenty so far, so maybe I should just get a 250gb-320gb drive? Something like this or this? Forgot to mention the newer 320GB single platter...
