How is your Nehalem or Westmere processor holding up in modern gaming?

my 920 @ 3.6 (Tri-Channel) lets me participate in anything still yet, but anything cpu intensive like GTA V is definitely stuck at sub 60 FPS gaming at very near ultra settings. I would say I average about 40 FPS in that game in particular. (R9 390 @ 1150) I don't regret my computer, but I...

Xbox One X (Scorpio) SoC Discussion

I think it'll be an interesting console hardware wise, they'll have so much more power available to them in a cpu upgrade alone, but with MS's promise to keep backwards compatibility up, it'll just be a shinier game in the end. They can't really expand on gameplay things like more complex...

GPU Upgrade 1070 or Rx 480/470?

If you dont make trips often and this is your one chance to score a GPU for USA prices I would definitely get the 1070, it can handle 1440p for the time being as well. While more expensive then the others its still decently under 500 budget. It's a shame prices aren't near MSRP for your trip.

Is RX 470 really enough for 1080p gaming?

If it follows AMDs history of having exceptional "one step down" cards it'll probably be one of the most bang for buck ever released. As long as you don't care to OC to at least match speeds of a 480 (assuming its under clocked) it it'll probably fall within 1-10% of the 480 depending on the...

Looking for a specific Power Color PCS+ 390 Bios

I really like my card but it has one flaw...its throttle temp is set too aggressively @ 65c Took me awhile to figure this out since it never dawned on me that they would set a temp so low, but anyways this made me research as best as i could and I've been flashing other cards bios, but they...

RX 480 seem to be selling like hot cakes.

hopefully their strong sales continue with the AIB cards, and specifically looking at the Nitro which isn't supposed much more... hopefully only 10 more then reference. Of course MSRP prices usually only last as long as launch day, then the gouging begins. I need to see the 1060 prices and let...

AMD RX 480 Overclocking video from der8auer

Seen this posted on Reddit and it seems very informative. Basically it says to probably expect about 1400-1450 Mhz OCs and near 1500Mhz for golden samples (he said he had a stable 1480Mhz). Also shows that its very easy to fake those 1600Mhz screenshots we see every now and then...

Gaming card for single 1920x1200 monitor, silent preferred

I figured I'd comment since i have a similar system and resolution. I don't know how good the recent Doom demo is as an indicator of performance, but I played it on ultra at 1920x1200 TSSAA 8X with my i7 920 @3.4 + R9 390 @ 1150/1600 and had a good experience, seemed to stay right at 58-70 FPS...

[VC] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Specifications Leaked, Faster than RX 480

I don't think the 1060 will be as cheap as the 480, there is literally no reason for them to match prices until the blindly loyal stop opening their wallets. Even If the 1060 is faster, they'll definitely be times when you won't even be able to enable high/ultra settings the card could perfectly...

AMD Polaris Thread: Radeon RX 480, RX 470 & RX 460 launching June 29th

so nvidia is going to release a part that smashes the 480 and sell it for 200? Is this based on the 960 that under performed and commonly costs more then its competition till th eprice was adjusted many months later? Is nvidia going to suddenly stop caring about margins and leave a 200+ price...

after much research I took the plunge on that Power Color model, as it seemed the best to me, I'm not a guy to get caught up on brand names, but I knew little about Power color and their warranty support, so i wanted to stick with MSI or Sapphire, but the 390pcs+ color had excellent review stats...

    GTX 1080 Overclocking

and that's the problem you seem to entirely overlook with this card. It's already a 100 premium and you are basically throwing away the "premium" shroud/blower to make up for their deficiencies. When partner cards will probably crush this immediately, especially if they can deliver more power...

Are you buying a GTX 1070/1080?

Yeah, With a 1080 being 600 already...I just can't see a big die card being 700. Nvidia is obviously wanting to move prices up another notch and the performance jump should be significant to warrant it for the big spenders. I Guess it all depends on Vega's success, they may sit on a 1k+ titan...

[Videocardz rumour] Vega pushed forward to October

I think they just want to sell to the big spenders twice. If a 1080 can beat a 980ti, even by a little, some of those buyers will make the switch no matter the cost, then they'll line up again for the real high end in another 6 months.

Anybody else unimpressed with new midrange Nvidia GPUs, and much higher MSRP?

It's generally exciting to see new cards but I'm kinda meh over the 1070 pricing that's up another $50. This is basically a 400 dollar "mainstream" card and you have to think the xx60 class card will now be 300-320. I guess I'll be waiting for the next price:performance champion from...

    Golden Age Of Gaming?

Its really hard for me to pick a time because I think they are mostly all good in their own way, but I'll probably hold my dreamcast days through early PC days in highest regards. While I had played some PC games at friends homes online before, PSO/Quake 3 really made me realize that this is...

    Upgrading to a 1920x1080 - Samsung S24E390HL or ASUS VS239H-P?

Are you much of a gamer? Kinda wondering about any ghosting or lag, while the 7ms stated is a minimal increase from most of the IPS that usually report 5ms, it mostly depends how they were measured so stats like that don't seem overly reliable.

We should find out some things that are coming @ CES, which is Next week I think. I'm dying for an ultra wide but on a pretty tight budget when it comes to luxury level electronics so I hope to make my purchase last a long time, if I do splurge. Personally I'm looking for one with freesync...

[Rumor - WCCFTech] AMD Arctic Islands 400 Series Set To Launch In Summer of 2016

    Amd 7970 still decent

You have to assume with 2 node jumps the step up should be significant. Nvidia & AMD will squeak out improvements as they increase die size over time as the first round will probably be relatively small and expensive, so they'll still be moderate room to improve over time as well as...

    I can't decide! 970 vs 390 vs PS4

I would say PS4, if not for the lack of games. They still have an anemic library for 2 years in and very likely most of their big games won't make it till late 2016 anyway. Unless they really have some exclusive you want currently, I would wait till next season of holiday sales to pick one up...

    Older Video Cards vs New(Performance)

newer single cards with similar performance of 2 older cards will always be better, because not all games use xfire/sli. If you rely on crossfire on older cards for games to be enjoyable (good settings + decent FPS) if multi GPU doesn't work you are left with crap performance. If you have a...

    Will VR fail?

R9 380x rumor and speculation thread

I still use a old 27" 1200p and it is fantastic, and I while I'm not a big enough snob to say anything like 16:9 (or similar) is unusable...it sure is less satisfying. Sadly 16:10 just isn't a mainstream panel type and always carried a premium and over time 1440p prices slowly made their way...

[TT]AMD continues to cut spending on R&D, down 40% in the last five years

I don't think they are tied to GCN for the console's sake, their job I would think is pretty much done, just need to pump out the chips+APUs and change to 14nm eventually. IMO they will want a new, more competitive arch to sell to sony and MS for the next gen. Despite being different...
