  1. Two Unbelievable SSD Giveaway Contests

I am not sure if you guys will allow posting of such and, if not, please delete. I just hate to not provide the opportunity with respect to the most amazing SSD giveaways we might ever see: Win a LSI Nytro™ MegaRAID® NMR 8120-4i PCIe 3.0 800GB Flash Accelerator Card ($7000 Value) Win...
  2. mPCIe Combo and M.2 SSD?????

No. The M.2 mPCIe combo only works at SATA level (NOT native PCIe) and can reproduce speeds of MAX just over 500MB/s as can any SATA 3 SSD. There is also a hiccup with boards (as we have) like the Maximus VI Extreme where the M.2 PCIe SSD must be very small because of the plavement of the...

  5. Intel 520 Series SSD Pictured - True Gold and Possibly Not SandForce Driven.

I can state that Intel has released absolutely NO information about any SandForce SSD to anyone as of yet. Long time Cape my friend!!!
  6. Intel 520 Series SSD Pictured - True Gold and Possibly Not SandForce Driven.

They do indeed and so does Micron. How is Micron making out with their own processors? There is no news to date that they are even interested in such. Taking it a step further, one has to give them credit by sticking by their guns with Marvell and not jumping into the SandForce frey as all else...
  7. Intel 520 Series SSD Pictured - True Gold and Possibly Not SandForce Driven.

There are actually a few sides involved in the question of Intels capability of developing such. We could first look back at their statements that they originially never intended to develop SSD controllers whatsoever but were not happy with initial offerings. This is supported a great deal by...
  8. Intel 520 Series SSD Pictured - True Gold and Possibly Not SandForce Driven.

Myself, I think that unless Anobit has a secret sauce that nobody knows about yet to help Intel, their handshake wth Intel was simply through financial smarts and has nothing to do with the 520 whatsoever. A bit of background shows that they're current SSD platform uses multiple PCB's where the...
  9. Corsair Performance Pro - good/bad?

Thats not entirely correct and I am curious as to what bugs were found in the new Marvell series of SSDs. Are we saying that because a later firmware came out that improved the drive, that is considered a bug? Further, if we go back a bit, Samsung would sell their drives without the ability to...

  11. Looking for 50 mm mSATA SSD - 64 GB

This is the results of my new 128GB Sammy mSATA SSD that I just ripped out of my Series 9 laptop. Hows that for performance from a mSATA? Best yet!!! I am trying to find out from Samsung presently if and when they will be released for consumer purchase.
  12. G2, G3, 510 or Vertex 2/3 in Macbook Pro

Disagree entirely with Emulex. The question that needs to be asked is that of which drive is best in a non-TRIM environment and why. As well, the V3 does nothing to help as your system isn't a SATA 3 system. Sandforce has proven through the success we are seeing with the Revo series that...
  13. Micron C400 Benchmarks!!!!

Well.... Gotta say that I have seen a million Crystal scores by now and never seen anything like that before the new SF release. In fact, I even had someone call me and say that there was no way I could get Crystal marks that high on the new Vertex. Ide be very interested to see Vantage scores...
  14. Micron C400 Benchmarks!!!!

Wow... I have NEVER seen that speed out of a C300. Have you got the matching Vantage result for that SSD? 96MB/s for a C300? New f/w? 006?

  16. Ongoing issues with my SSD (Samsung 470)

It has nothing to do with the SSD whatsoever and this occurs, most often, when one is using a multiple OS system or has drives connected to the desktop where, more than one has an OS hooked up. The most important thing here is that the data is not lost and that drive can be fixed as it is...
  17. Ongoing issues with my SSD (Samsung 470)

Your ssd is not dead. It says that your Boot Manager is missing and this is something you might want to google. Your answer is there as your boot record has become corrupted and can be fixed with a little reading. BCDEdit works although a repair of the disk through Windows recovery may also...
  18. Is 25nm NAND that much worse than 34nm NAND? They better half the SSD price!

Production costs are a sure fire reason that prices stay high. Even after production costs have been accounted for, prices will remain high because the consumer is buying ssds by the million. I would not expect to see any reduction whatsoever in pricing and, in fact, would only believe we will...
  19. Looking to buy a new SSD

We keep mentioning SATA 3 but does OP have a SATA3 system because, if not, it really doesnt help at all.
  20. Win an Intel i7-975 Extreme CPU

Its not an out, but rather a legality. We cannot simply give something away for free. We have a two lucky SSD owners who can attest to that from our last two draws. Good Luck to all!
  21. Intel 522 SSD (Sandforce)

Most constructive bunch of guys I know! The question I have first and foremost is whether one hates going through my site because of its appearance or dislike of my ideals in computing. Honesty is always appreciated and I know I can get it here. Personally, I kind of liked the BMW. I think...
  22. Intel's new SSD 510 series using Marvell controller ?

    Makaveli my friend...long time.
  23. Intel's new SSD 510 series using Marvell controller ?

Word just hit the street last night that Intel will, most likely, be introducing a Intel SSD with SF-2000 series processor in the near future.
  24. To Raid[0], or not to Raid[0], is the question

The way I see it your not really at risk of losing anything other than OS setup and programs which, if backed up, leave 0 risk. Having said that, it would be a miracle for you to visibly see any difference between that RAID and a SSD alone. This is coming from a guy who has had the fortune to...
  25. page file on SSD

Ya....been through it. The abs best debates I have had over the past few years were 64 bit 3 years ago and also Pagefile. 64bit is not much of a debate any longer but Pagefile still remains to be very....lively.
  26. page file on SSD

LMAO.... I just went back becaue I thought exactly as you just said. NM eheheh.
  27. page file on SSD

This should be good. You are very forthright in your point so... why are you exacly keeping pagefile on again? Lets take it one step at a time.
  28. page file on SSD

Wait 128GB of RAM???? I always suggest a simple test to win people over. Shut down pagefile and then click on any programs until 50 are running simultaneously and be amazed. Many of my programs include Ofice, Acrobat, Photoshop and so on... I will run multiple instances of many including...
  29. page file on SSD

I can repeat myself if you like but, "Show me the money!" Use Windows 7 and bench with and without pagefile. I am not trying to be 'forthright' but I have heard such for years. The only thing I still have seen is that no performance benefit is apparent with pagefile on and especially in...
  30. page file on SSD

Same jiberish we have been listening to for years. Pagefile was great for XP and it served a purpose but there is abs no purpose for it, even in a 32 bit system when ample RAM is available. If one wants to claim increased performance, please provide supporting references.
  31. OCZ falsely advertising 25nm Vertex 2 drives?

I understand what you are saying but it still relates to simple smart business. Intel puts out the i7 and except for the Extreme, each and every processor is physically identical. the 920/930/ and so on... all 100% identical but you are not after them. SandForce does the same thing but is...
  32. OCZ falsely advertising 25nm Vertex 2 drives?

Thats simply smart business. Its like saying we are not buying a Ford because they also have Mercury, Chevy because of GM, Honda...Acura and so on. By simple engineering alone other drives cannot match the new SandForce because they dont use compression. It gives SF a huge advantage in the...
  33. page file on SSD

If I can add, I have asked people through dozens of exchanges to provide any proof that they can find that shows Page providing any sort of performance increase and have yet to have anyone return such. 4GB or more...you are golden.
  34. page file on SSD

I dont get a chance to jump in to the forums much any more but somehow couldn't resist this. I have been intricately involved in the page file issue since the early Vista days and, myself, have been running without pagefile since I installed 4Gb RAM and was playing with it even on 2GB. Vista...
  35. OCZ falsely advertising 25nm Vertex 2 drives?

What I stated was the simple truth. The 4 plus GB discrepancy is accounted for through RAISE requiring an entire die. A die used to be 4GB (32nm)and is now 8GB (25nm). This is your size difference and will be on any SF drive using the new 25nm NAND.
  36. OCZ falsely advertising 25nm Vertex 2 drives?

The reason for size changes will be the same with all SandForce drives. 34nm flash uses 4GB die whereas 25nm flash uses 8GB die. For the most part, 34nm is now becoming extinct. SF RAISE requires the use of a full die in order to function, regardless of whether it is 4GB or 8GB die. This is...
  37. Sf-2000

You will never get up to date because tomorrow there is something new. The SF-2000 is expected to be released in March...
  38. SSD Drive Life

wow...los of thoughts on this one but the reality is that nobody is really sure and we base our calculations on guestimates as SSDs are so new. I have used somewhere in the area of 40-50 ssds in the past 3plus years and have yet to have any reach end of life. In fact, I am as much in the ssd...
  39. Cloning a HDD to an SSD

The best advice is not to clone ans simply transfer your data. Many people have experienced problems with the migration process ranging from misalignment to underperforming ssds with no clue of the reason. The simplest consideration you mentioned and that is that you are making an exact copy...
  40. Sandforce SF-1500 firmware? When and upgradable from SF-1200 chipset?

They are exactly the same physically. Only the f/w is different with a few dips turned on for the supercapacitor.
