Best choice for 120GB SATA III (6GB/s) SSD

That means actually having to make up my mind :eek:. Since it's mostly an installed software drive, read speed is probaby the biggest issue, and reliability is necessary (can't have the machine dead). Write speed would not be paramount. And I already gave the budget for this item.

The best combination of all of those. Want to keep it to $250 or less (which seem eminently doable). It would be a boot/software drive for a desktop.

At the moment, what does everyone think would be the best choice for an SSD? I'm looking at the 120 GB class. Also am strongly inclined to go with a SATA III interface. I'm looking hard at the Crucial M4. I looked at the OCZ Vertex III, but that seems to be not ready for prime time yet...

Other than power consumption, what advantage does ARM have over x86/64? I haven't heard of any. Most of the server world is going x86 from RISC. I think they have their own markets, and will likely stay that way. X86 will continue to dominate the notebook/desktop/server market, and ARM will...

How to properly dispose of a dead power supply?

I doubt there's anything hazardous in there. Probably some good, recoverable copper and aluminum. If you recycle metal where you are, toss it in there.

How does this board compare to th Asus P8P67 Pro (3.0)? It seems to have more hardware features. But Asus has the UEFI. Is it pretty much break even? Is there any particular reason to buy one over the other?

Are there any that wouldn't do this? BTW, you can come down about 300 watts on your power supply spec. You're looking at drawing 600 watts max.

P8P67 Deluxe - What would you recomment for Power Supply?

Based on what you're stating, you have no need for anything over 600 Watts. If you want a pad for second vidcard, go 650w. The best deal in this range seems to be the XFX 650 Modular. 80 Plus bronze. Seasonic sourced, <$100 to buy <$70 after rebate.

Reaction to P/H67 defect - What will you be doing for new builds?

All the SB motherboards are off the market, and will likely be for three or more months. You were planning to build with SB, but didn't buy before the recall. What are you going to do? I think I'm waiting for Z68 at this point.

Heatsink Issues with Asus P8P67 Deluxe

Uh, guys, why are you going with big money heatsinks with the SB processors. Given the the thermal performance of SB, they're just not necessary. If you have it already, okay. But I wouldn't buy anything pricier than a CM 212.

Are P67 & H67 enough to put you off the unlocked i5-2500K SB?

new SSD now or wait?

The big pop seems to come from going from no SSD to an SSD. I don't think they'll be a huge pop (user noticeable) from a fast SSD (available now) to a very fast SSD (6 months from now).

Glad I skipped Sandy Bridge

I hate to tell you this, but if yoiu go with a Z68 chipset motherboard, you won't be skipping Sandy Bridge. You're just skipping the P/H67 chipsets. Sandy Bridge isn't the chipset, it's the processor codename. Z68 supports Sandy Bridge.

How's that working out? I had been planning on using a Zalman CNPS10X Performa, but given the thermal performance of the Sandy Bridge CPUs, that might be overkill and the CM 212 is cheaper. I'm just not wild about the whole direct heat pipe touch thing.

The SSDs of CES

I'm wondering at what point do we hit the point of diminishing returns for the increased speed of SSDs? Looking at it from the standpoint of user experience on a home PC, going from nothing to a gen2 Intel is probably a revelation. Going from a Gen 2 intel to a Sandforce 1200, maybe you notice...

What would the compelling reason be for anyone buying anything above the smartphone/pda/tablet level to switch to this? In the markets it dominates, everyone seems pretty well served by x86-64.

Why is the PLL integrated onto the chipset now?

And do you think that the 2011 cpus won't have the clock on the chip also? I have a strong feeling this is a permanent thing going forward. All their CPUs from now on with have integrated clocks. Really, I'm surprised they waited this long to take control of overclocking. From now on...
