Windows 7 Installation on SSD, current, definitive guide?

I have a box full of components about to be put together. After that, I'll need to do the Win 7 install. Of course I have an SSD system drive and magnetic data drive. I'm looking for the definitive, and current, guide to doing this installation, and optimizing the configuration. It's not...

Best choice for 120GB SATA III (6GB/s) SSD

Based on the responses here, and Anand's round up article, I ordered the Intel 510.

Best choice for 120GB SATA III (6GB/s) SSD

That means actually having to make up my mind . Since it's mostly an installed software drive, read speed is probaby the biggest issue, and reliability is necessary (can't have the machine dead). Write speed would not be paramount. And I already gave the budget for this item.

Best choice for 120GB SATA III (6GB/s) SSD

The best combination of all of those. Want to keep it to $250 or less (which seem eminently doable). It would be a boot/software drive for a desktop.

Best choice for 120GB SATA III (6GB/s) SSD

At the moment, what does everyone think would be the best choice for an SSD? I'm looking at the 120 GB class. Also am strongly inclined to go with a SATA III interface. I'm looking hard at the Crucial M4. I looked at the OCZ Vertex III, but that seems to be not ready for prime time yet...

    Msi z68a-gd65

Brand new on 'egg. I've had a MSI board for years now (machine being replaced, with not a hickup). Was looking hard at the P67 version of this board when the recall threw the breaks on the build. Now they have a Z68. Price is about where I want it. Anyone get one of these yet? Any...

So here it goes: possible beginning of the end for x86

Other than power consumption, what advantage does ARM have over x86/64? I haven't heard of any. Most of the server world is going x86 from RISC. I think they have their own markets, and will likely stay that way. X86 will continue to dominate the notebook/desktop/server market, and ARM will...

I doubt there's anything hazardous in there. Probably some good, recoverable copper and aluminum. If you recycle metal where you are, toss it in there.

    MSI P67A-GD65 - No love?

How does this board compare to th Asus P8P67 Pro (3.0)? It seems to have more hardware features. But Asus has the UEFI. Is it pretty much break even? Is there any particular reason to buy one over the other?

    MSI P67A-GD65 - No love?

All the talk about P67 motherboards seems to be centered on Asus and Asrock. Anyone going MSI. The P67A-GD65 seems to have a good feature set at a decent price. Any reason to avoid?

Using Discrete Video Card - P67 vs Z68

^ AFAIK, there's nothing about the Z68 that's any different in regard to how it would handle multiple graphics cards.

Using Discrete Video Card - P67 vs Z68

Was about to do a Sandy Bridge build when the recall hit. Postponed build till after boards with revised P67s became available (which is starting to happen.) My build will have a discrete video card. I will never likely use the built in graphics functionality for display. I current have no...

P8P67 Deluxe - What would you recomment for Power Supply?

Based on what you're stating, you have no need for anything over 600 Watts. If you want a pad for second vidcard, go 650w. The best deal in this range seems to be the XFX 650 Modular. 80 Plus bronze. Seasonic sourced, <$100 to buy <$70 after rebate.

Any official ETA of new P/H67 boards with fixed southbridge?

Reaction to P/H67 defect - What will you be doing for new builds?

All the SB motherboards are off the market, and will likely be for three or more months. You were planning to build with SB, but didn't buy before the recall. What are you going to do? I think I'm waiting for Z68 at this point.

Is Sandy Bridge REALLY worth the wait?

I had planned to upgrade my now ancient AMD machine to a 2600K mid-February. I figured I'd see how things worked out for the early adopters, and get the feedback. Glad i did I'll still be making the move. I'm just going to be pushed back a few months. By then the Z68 based motherboards may...

    Remember the day...

Yeah, yeah, yeah. '79, the High School had one computer, a DEC (anyone remember DEC any more) PDP-8E. To boot this thing up, you had to manually key in (with switches on the front of the rack mounted CPU, for instruction in binary machine code. My digital watch now probably has more...

Heatsink Issues with Asus P8P67 Deluxe

Uh, guys, why are you going with big money heatsinks with the SB processors. Given the the thermal performance of SB, they're just not necessary. If you have it already, okay. But I wouldn't buy anything pricier than a CM 212.

Now that Sandy Bridge is out, anyone still going to buy a Nehalem?

Assuming your upgrading or just building new, is anyone out there planning to build with one of the Nehalem chips (i7 860, 870, 920, 930, 950, i5 750, 760 or lower, etc), not that Sandy Bridge is out? Note: This is only about builds. If you have a PC and don't plan on upgrading or building...

Are P67 & H67 enough to put you off the unlocked i5-2500K SB?

If you want to use the onboard graphics, buy an H67 board. Anyone buying the P67 is likely planning on using a discrete graphics card. You can do this with the H67 also. The issue that may keep people waiting for the Z68 is if they want to use a discrete graphic card, but also use the...

    new SSD now or wait?

The big pop seems to come from going from no SSD to an SSD. I don't think they'll be a huge pop (user noticeable) from a fast SSD (available now) to a very fast SSD (6 months from now).

    OCZ Leaves RAM Market

And what are they going to do as SSDs become commoditized? Are they really adding value to their SSDs, or are they just one of a bunch of Sandforce (at the moment) vendors, selling essentially the same product?

    Glad I skipped Sandy Bridge

I hate to tell you this, but if yoiu go with a Z68 chipset motherboard, you won't be skipping Sandy Bridge. You're just skipping the P/H67 chipsets. Sandy Bridge isn't the chipset, it's the processor codename. Z68 supports Sandy Bridge.

Are you running the 2500 or 2500K (and overclocking)?
  36. B

    Heatsink for new 1155 socket

How's that working out? I had been planning on using a Zalman CNPS10X Performa, but given the thermal performance of the Sandy Bridge CPUs, that might be overkill and the CM 212 is cheaper. I'm just not wild about the whole direct heat pipe touch thing.

    The SSDs of CES

I'm wondering at what point do we hit the point of diminishing returns for the increased speed of SSDs? Looking at it from the standpoint of user experience on a home PC, going from nothing to a gen2 Intel is probably a revelation. Going from a Gen 2 intel to a Sandforce 1200, maybe you notice...

What would the compelling reason be for anyone buying anything above the smartphone/pda/tablet level to switch to this? In the markets it dominates, everyone seems pretty well served by x86-64.

Why is the PLL integrated onto the chipset now?

And do you think that the 2011 cpus won't have the clock on the chip also? I have a strong feeling this is a permanent thing going forward. All their CPUs from now on with have integrated clocks. Really, I'm surprised they waited this long to take control of overclocking. From now on...
