Hi guys. I would appreciate if anyone could help point me in the right direction as to how to set up a proxy/vpn at my home computer so a friend can access an online game through his university firewall. I've been searching around a bit myself and there seems a fair bit on using hamachi (which...
Ars was speculating that they really only put out the new Sparc CPUs because it was quite far in development already (had to be) and would've been a waste not to have finished it.
It could be that they need a serious chip company in which case idk if via would cut it.
Idk... I would doubt that they really couldn't put this game out until Feb 2011. For one, they are their own publisher with their own online store. I think they have enough fans remaining (prior to this release anyhow) to make most of their money online and then sell in physical stores once...
I didnt know fabs had such leeway in linewidths. I thought a 45nm facility would absolutely only produce 45nm but could potentially churn out GPUs, CPUs and SSDs.
I must be mistaken
I'm surprised no one has brought up how neither Valve nor LoL or HoN or whatever have the rights to the name DoTa. It's blizzard who I think owns the right to the title. Its stated in the EULA that all custom maps made for W3 are technically the property of Blizzard. Granted, Blizzard can't...
Haven't heard of too many PSUs causing significant problems. The garbage dell et al through into their PCs/laptops seem to work fine for their intended purpose. Even for enthusiasts a high end PSU is largely not needed (but a decent one with enough watts is) as long as one isn't heavily...
Hmm... most interesting. I can see how that may possibly have an effect. I would then be rather ticked off I paid a premium for a HX650 which is now contributing to the whine (if it is reliant on the PSU)
It gets worse when you OC it so I guess don't OC too much. Also, if you are a bit older...
Ah right the passkey. Didn't think it was necessary but I've just actually read the FAQ so I'll get that sorted shortly thanks guys.
BOINC doesn't seem to have much really worthy of donating computing time too. It appears that milkyway and collatz are the main ones there and as much as I...
Thanks a lot for the reason guys. Never heard of coil whine before but I guess it would make sense. Its quite annoying but not so bad if music's playing or something.
I'm 100% sure its not the fans as the whining starts well before the fans kick in (say 5 minutes before). I can manually...
The whining starts straight away when I turn on say F@H. At that point the temperatures are more or less at their baseline of 30 (staying under 60 for F@H) The maximum they reach is under 80 with furmark although I have accidentally driven them higher with an overenthusiastic OC but they would...
Is anyone else finding that their 460 GTXs start whining under load regardless of fan speed or is it particular to my cards from Palit? They absolutely only whine when under load as in when running F@H, Furmark or games in general. I'm very sure it isn't the fans as I can monitor the fanspeed...
Hi guys, I've got a i5 760 @4.1GHz + 460 GTX SLI that I'd like to put to work running F@H. The problem is the heat output really is quite high and my computer is kept largely in my bedroom where I like it a bit cooler as I fall asleep. I probably will not mind F@H starting maybe around 3 am...
Reading skills would help too. The site that you cited is completely sparse on any sort of hard information, written by an "engineer" i.e. someone whom I wouldn't take cutting edge physics advice notwithstanding the fact his understanding of physics is a lot better than my own. Even worse...
Well, I suspect there's a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit drivers. I can set the fan much higher in 32 bit than 64 bit but I haven't tried turning it below 40%. It's probably not worth downgrading though.
I believe the drivers do check for that. Accidentally tried to install a 64 bit driver on the 32 bit OS and it wasn't allowed but I gather that 32 bit software on 64 bit OS should theoretically be fine. I'll try it out anyhow. Thanks for the advice.
I've backed down my overclock and just...
It wouldn't be inconceivable however for Intel to limit the multipliers on 1155 so I wouldn't bet too much on there ultimately being little difference.
Ben90 - You're probably right on it having something to do with 64 bit vs 32 bit software. I think I'd be better off forgoing that extra 4+GB of ram for a higher clock. Has any one heard of such instabilities in 64 bit OS's with regards to Afterburner, drivers and or the OS?
kami/keys - the...
I've got a Palit 460 GTX, the slightly overclocked one which starts at 700 MHz. I suppose "rubbish" is putting it too far but I am still rather annoyed by the great disparity between the 32 bit and the 64 bit OS performance.
@Jules: Thats a pretty decent overclock you have given the voltage. I...
Hi guys. I've got myself a nice new system as shown in my signature. Basically, I'm having trouble OC'ing my 460 GTX SLI. The fans blow to 100% as recorded by Afterburner (yea I know this isn't accurate) and the temperature for both cards stands at 91C. I'm running at 1.087V 850/1955 and its...
Again, the issue could be features needed that the 1950 just doesn't have. What I'd recommend is testing through your games with your reasonably modern 4200 onboard chip. If the games run fine (don't crash) on the onboard graphics then its either a limitation of the 1950 featureset or very...
Er... A school computer has enough power in its PSU to run the 470 GTX? Dang I wish I was in your school. I considered it astounding when my school even had a C2D chip in a computer
I've personally got double 460s and they do overclock rather well. 900/2130 is the max I've gotten from them at 1.087V at 1 hour furmark stability testing. I could go higher with a flashed bios but the sound is quite loud as it is.
Haven't got the chance to install any proper games yet though...
Hi guys, I've just purchased a brand new system and the shop put it together for me. I had a hard drive from previously so I decided to install windows myself. When trying to do so, the windows installer said it couldn't create a new partition nor use the existing partition. The only drive...
Happy: I would highly recommend you open up another thread solely dedicated for people to post their 460 overclocks. This thread may get long and unwieldy with actual overclocks scattered throughout and you having to repeat yourself regarding how to overclock/test stability many times.
You'll...
Apparently it does. Yea I breathed a huge sigh of relief too. The only cards available around here are the lousy Palit ones (at a more expensive price too to boot) Link here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=4469755&postcount=225

Of course it's more than just the US we'd be looking at but I'd say its fairly representative of developed nations in general.
Plugging in some data from wiki, assuming 4157 terawatt hours of energy a year, 3% of which is spent on computing (figure found by the Lawrence Berkeley Labs) and...
From a hardware perspective you'd be right but in software I don't think so. Each version of windows seems to need more and more resources to run optimally (maybe except vista --> 7). If anything, having to slow down the pace of OS development to allow for greater efficiencies within the next...
Them 3D glasses are a huge annoyance for those with glasses such as myself and no I'm not about to go start wearing contacts. I can sorta imagine it being vaguely useful/immersive but I'd rather not bear with the discomfort and ensuing headaches.
Oh and if the 3D tech is anything like avatar's...
Its the standard HDMI, VGA, component input. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Warpia-Wireles.../dp/B002XISRJS could work but the resolution isn't quite up to scratch plus a host of reported problems. Are there any other solutions out there you guys know of?
Thanks
Hi guys. I would like to be able to output audio and video from a computer to a TV wirelessly over perhaps 10 meters at most. Might you guys know of any dongle or adapter which might allow me to do this?
Thanks,
Andrew
If I'm not mistaken, Tom's Hardware regularly pits performance against power consumption when overclocking a few select CPUs with and without a power increase. I don't know why they persist with it but it always seems that the highest clock you can attain without increasing the voltage is where...
Hmm... looks like the 460 SLI will be my next purchase at this rate. The scaling seems to be quite remarkable as always with SLI.
Or a 5850 with a price drop. Thank goodness I held off until now.
Er... you should easily be playing at least Civ4, Oblivion, DA:O, Lol and Torchlight at native res and high settings. Neither of those games are in the least graphically challenging (not 100% sure on torchlight). Depending on your fps demands you should be able to squeeze in TF2 and HL2 at...
Ah of course forgive me for forgetting: lest it gets to his head that he has single-handedly overturned various fields of science and devised models and theories of such brilliance no one except his enlightened self has theorized or understood it.
That's not saying there haven't been remarkable...
Its the change in entropy that the second law of thermodynamics refers to. Entropy will tend to approach a maximum in a closed system. A clear example is dissolving a substance in a solvent. Give it time and it will eventually dissolve and approach maximum entropy (maximum disorderliness)...
It probably is just a case of approaching a maximum as opposed to actually reacting a mathematical maximum. The point is however that the universe will eventually become almost completely uniform but perhaps not absolutely completely.
Tis wise to either ignore william or point him in a right...
Hmm... I really wonder what governments have that they aren't telling us though. Tin foil hats aside, it would be remiss for governments not to have some powerful computers possibly for decryption.
Not even sure what a dead pixel looks like here. Had a lousy dell monitor, a lousy asus laptop monitor and a lousy viewsonic monitor. All TN I believe unless there's a cheaper tech.
