San Diego Road Runner and Mandrake Linux Help......

There shouldn't be any needs for rrlogin in SD. I'm running FreeBSD without a problem. You may want to try a power cycle on the modem. You can use a dhcpc or just assign it an IP (obtained from Windows winipcfg/ipconfig), which is what I did.

Pinnacle has poor support The most up to date drivers is in the Germany FTP site. As for the rebate, don't expect to get any.

Best video capture card for...

i got a sony dvmc-2 for like 300 bux. and an ads pyro for about 45 bux.. it's digital. better compression.. better quality than any tv tuner (analog) out there.

Need help finding an overclock-friendly NIC

My 3Com 905B-TX is running at 41MHz PCI. My Netgear 310 starts losing connectivity at about 34MHz and completely lose connectivity at about 36 or 37MHz (PCI bus).

Yeah, my uncle sent in some Fry's rebates a few months ago and still nothing. I'd stay away from Fry's rebates or any rebates unless the price is good before the rebate.

did you try resettin the cmos? i think you have to press the <insert> key on the num pad on boot-up.. but maybe that's for the abit.. but you can try removing the cmos battery for a couple secs and put it back it..

Help! Tried new RAM, system won't boot even with old the RAM.

it's been awhile since i've done troubleshooting on computer hardware.. so i don't remember what that beep code it.. but see if your monitor is connected to your video card.. and that the video card is seated in properly..

Networking newbie help needed, please read

i used to use warftpd, if you have only one nic, after installing warftpd, it'll automatically detect your ip, which would be what others would use to connect to your machine thru ftp. the latest version that i like was 1.6x (i believe). it's been awhile, now i use linux.. ;)

oh, sorry. i dont have banner in the message send window.. only noticed it on the file send.. i'll probably look at that later tonite.. man i'm tired.. shouldn't stay up so late.. good thing my work hrs are flexible.. but i'm gonna drag myself outta bed now anyway..

oh.. here's a thought.. like fobside.. if you don't have a partner dir.. you might wanna check your registry.. hkey_current_user\software\mirabilis\icq\defaultprefs\updatedfiles the PATH under the subkeys there is the file name.. the RelativePath should be the dir.. i'm thinking that maybe...

woohoo!! i think i got it.. of course.. only time will tell.. but here goes.. under the "DataFiles" dir, i editted "partner.fld" with notepad.. i basically deleted all the text and saved it and changed it to read-only.. now.. no more sms download to the partner dir.. no more...

ok.. seems like icq has to be open for about a min, then those sms files will be downloaded to the partner folder.. and the sms in the icq window will load up if i close and restart icq.. what's the point in settin the dir to read-only when files can still be writter to it.. weird..

umm. i don't really remember what i just did, but here goes. deleted cookies and cache from the atebrowser dir and made it read-only.. deleted the files in the partner dir and made it read-only.. i think the partner dir is what makes the sms on the icq window.. the weird thing is, after...

i haven't play mechwarrior, but there are some games out there that connects thru ipx.. maybe mechwarrior is one of them and maybe you might wanna install it as a protocol

Setting up windows 2000 so windows 98 can access it over the network?

given that your network is working. you would need to create a username in your win2k box. when logging into win98, use that same username that you've created in win2k. also, make sure you share out whatever you want win98 to access on win2k.

Althought there might be no irq conflict, make sure the nic is not sharing irq with another device. check the cabling, check the network configuration.

Windows 2k - How can I do a print screen on a DOS program?

windows has screen capture built-in. <Print Scrn> = Capture the whole screen (desktop) <Alt><Print Scrn> = Captures the active window after capturing the screen you can paste it to any type of graphic program (ie, photoshop, paintbrush) or even MS word or whatever else that'll accept images.

if i remember correctly, you only need straight thru patch cable. in case you need cross-over, you can get them at compusa, fry's, etc.

Computer not booting!!

hmm.. need more info. if it's atx, then you'll probably have to hold down the power button for about 5 secs. why there's no display. hard to say. depends on the beep and if your cards, rams, etc are seated. cable connected correctly, etc.

The higher ping time (latency) is likely to be caused by all that sending and receiving data. I have cable modem, and when I send out data, my ping time increase.

Check your tcp/ip settings. Try a different cable and/or a different port on the hub. Also make sure that tcp/ip is bind to the nic
