Why are all of the new motherboards covered in plastic ?

I'm with the OP. So far none of my boards or memory have ever lit up like a Christmas tree. I'm assuming it's an option that can disabled, but I will still avoid it if possible, especially the rainbow memory modules. Some armor isn't bad if it makes sense.

Disabling the printer redirection worked. Quick fix so at least my work is not interrupted. Thanks!

Win 10 Fall Creators (1709) is On.

Remote Desktop does not work after installing version 1709. Anybody know a fix? Connects initially and 30 seconds later says the program is not responding. Real PITA because I use it to access all of my work computers in the basement. I can find an alternative, but would like to know what...

    Onboard audio vs Dedicated

What do you use it for? I had the RME Fireface UCX. Absolutely loved the audio quality, but hated their TotalMix software. I haven't done any recording for the past few years, so now I'm sporting a Dangerous Music Source which is an incredible playback monitoring unit with no software at all...

    Problems with Microsoft Edge

Only problem I have is that I am a cookie control freak. You can no longer prompt for cookies, and blocking third party cookies isn't good because many web sites use third party cookies, like my bank. I guess the way things are being tracked these days, blocking cookies is almost a mute point...

Agree. And the smell will dissipate. It's called molecular diffusion.

It's 2015: Why does Onboard audio STILL suck?

The Steinberg unit should do very well. I'll go off track and say if you are really serious about audio, just forget onboard devices. Disable them in the BIOS and get a decent external audio interface. Plenty of them out there at reasonable prices; FocusRite, Steinberg, and many others...

[PCPer] Samsung 2TB Pro and Evo SSDs

Another 100% agree. I might not be a super power user like some. I do digital audio recording and photo processing mostly. With a 256GB SSD running the OS and four 2TB 7200RPM's in RAID1 I have data protection. And the OS overhead is all on the SSD, so the response time on the data drives is not...

Should more motherboards have built-in Wifi?

Yes. I wish someone would make a motherboard without onboard video and audio.

Good call. Looks like you were correct. This morning it's acting like a completely normal HD LED. Nonetheless, appreciate the input and good conversation.

Problem after Changing my SSD Configuration

Why do you feel it is so important? I did use it early on with my first SSD, a Crucial C300. I installed an update and it blew up my system - "no operating system detected". Haven't touched it since, and I've never had a problem. Easy enough to see if there was a problem with one of the RAID...

Problem after Changing my SSD Configuration

This is somewhat what I was doing with my previous configuration. However, I am understanding you to say that if the BIOS is set to RAID, and my SSD is NOT part of an array, then trim will still function. This may be where I have been mistaken. I thought trim was disabled as soon as I selected...

Problem after Changing my SSD Configuration

Thanks for the help. Let me clarify that the SSD is not mirrored. SSD is single drive running only OS and apps. The four 2TB HDD's are RAID1 for two 2TB volumes and all user folders and data are kept on the RAID HDD's. The slight noticeable performance improvement is probably just the new...

    Installing Samsung 840 EVO 500gb

You make very valid points. Just for the record, I have been cloning and imaging computers since Ghost 3.1 was released in 1997. Nothing is better than a fresh installation.

Problem after Changing my SSD Configuration

The HDD's are active and working fine. Everything works perfectly except the blasted HD led is solid. It's been two days. Are saying there is no real improvement running an SSD in AHCI mode as opposed to RAID? Are you saying the RAID is degraded by using Windows OS software as opposed to a...

    Installing Samsung 840 EVO 500gb

Back up your data and do a fresh install of OS and apps. I just installed a Samsung 850 pro. The Magician software will check your firmware to let you know if it is up to date. It also has some nice tweaking features for both the SSD and OS. So far I like it.

Problem after Changing my SSD Configuration

Have a Samsung 850 Pro that was setup on one SATA3 port with ports set in BIOS as RAID. One port was empty and the other two had a mirrored 2TB HDD volume. The Marvell controller also has 2TB mirrored volume. Everything was running fine like this, but I wanted to change to ACHI mode to get the...

    CPU new build question...

Wish I could be more specific, but I built an ASUS Z87 system last year for a business associate and the BIOS finally supported using the onboard graphics with an add-in dual monitor graphics card. I easily had three monitors going. Used to be as soon as you plugged in a graphics card the...

Samsung 850 Pro or Crucial M550

Lots of great comments, but BrightCandle sort of nailed my line of thinking. I run OS and apps on the SSD, keep all of my data on RAID 1 7200 RPM drives. Don't play games. The most intensive work I do is digital audio and photo editing. Have lots of different apps for these, but still have 83GB...

Samsung 850 Pro or Crucial M550

Haven't looked at this stuff in a while. I decided to upgrade my computer, and I always pass my used stuff down to my father to upgrade his computer. Any reason to not shoot at max size?

Sometimes hard to tell OOF vs very slight motion blur. Not sure what camera the OP is using, but with 400mm L glass it should be tack sharp. I would opt for a bit of motion blur on this one, especially if hand held. Went through the same thing learning to use my 7D. Everyone complaining about...

    ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe - BIOS Update 3203

My SSD is smoking now. Not that it didn't work before, but there is a noticeable improvement with apps opening super fast the way they should. And the internet seems much faster, which could be related to video stability as you mentioned (using Raedeon HD6700).

    ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe - BIOS Update 3203

Sparked my interest because I haven't read much about the new 8 core processors. Looks like SB-E is strictly socket lga2011 and x79 chipset. I didn't dig into the details of the 3202 bios update, but it appears to be a vast improvement.

Having SSD for OS and HDD besides it

Don't understand. What data would you want to move back and forth? The idea is to have dedicated SSD for OS and applications, and have the HDD for all of your data. Reconfigure Windows 7 to have all of your data folders on the HDD. I created a separate partition on the HDD for temporary...

Problem with Crucial C300 SSD and Asus P8Z68 Deluxe MB

Problem with Crucial C300 SSD and Asus P8Z68 Deluxe MB

My C300 is working perfectly after turning off the Link State Power Management and setting the BIOS for the SSD Sata port to 'hot swap enabled'. I'll probably forward this information to Crucial because they certainly should have been able to isolate this issue with my first support call...

Problem with Crucial C300 SSD and Asus P8Z68 Deluxe MB

I wonder if the chkdsk I ran was in fact running, but there was nothing visible on the screen like there would be with a standard HDD. Maybe I should have let it sit with the blinking cursor for a while. I own a copy of Acronis 2011. I use it to backup data files. It does well with an image...

Responding to the last two posts: I just turned off the Link State Power Management in the PCI Express power option, so we'll see if this helps. Think I may have already done this with LPM registry edit I ended up applying for all ports. As far as disabling power down for the HDD's, I have...

Problem with Crucial C300 SSD and Asus P8Z68 Deluxe MB

Unfortunately, looks like this did not fix it. Outlook is opening slow again, first about 5 seconds, now 20 seconds. I know it will continue to get worse. I just deleted an old "favorites" web link and it took about twenty seconds to delete, and the mouse was completely erratic until it did...

Problem with Crucial C300 SSD and Asus P8Z68 Deluxe MB

All drivers are completely up to date. The LPM state is a registry edit I had not run across, so I will try it. I did perform most (if not all) of suggested registry edits I found on the internet when I first noticed the problem. I was in fact leery with some of these edits, being this is my...
