Can any IT people, or anyone who knows, comment on what sorts of backup strategy/policy you use or seen at other big businesses?
How many local copies? How many off-site copies? Versioning? How often? Raid? Tape? etc
I was wondering to what extent businesses go to protect their data.
My new internet connection is inconsistent, so i installed a internet monitoring program to see is there are any patterns.
The program is set by default to ping websites in 15 second intervals. I don't know if leaving it like this is okay or not.
Do websites care if 1 computer is constantly...
So does average customer benefit from avx and fma aside from video encoding?
From a quick search it seems like mostly HPC apps (finance, oil, etc) would benefit.
In xp, the task manager would show peak memory usage (peak commit charge). This is useful in figuring out if the system has enough ram.
Where do I find this in windows7 ?
When intel/amd add a decent gpu into their cpu there's going to be a lot of bandwidth limitations. I haven't read anything about how they will approach this problem.
DDR4 will be out at 12gbyte/s?
Quad channel would bring it to 48gbyte/s which is still limiting, and a bit impractical for people...
If you have a hyperthreading cpu with 2 cores, 4 threads, and then run an app that generates 2 threads, how will the threads be assigned?
Since the OS sees 4 separate cpu's, is it possible that only 1 core will get both threads from the app?
In this article covering hdcp:

If the application is decrypting its input and then re-encrypting for output, doesn't the information sit un-encrypted at some point within the application? Couldn't a hacker somehow monitor/eavesdrop/hack the application to...
I've set the taskbar buttons to "never combine", but they still stick together.
Try opening 2 instances of any app like calculator. You can't move just one of the taskbar buttons, they always move together which is very annoying.
How do you disable this? Checkbox hidden somewhere? Registry edit?
I've never really followed gpu's and recently looked at desktops and laptops. I found articles cheering that ati/nvidia are announcing program to update their drivers. Then there are articles going over performance improvements with driver updates. Then I see drivers sometimes need to be...
Both these statements to me are saying same point about the step between bytecode and interpreter. But i'm talking about after that, the parts i bolded. The step between interpreter and cpu. There has to be some form of binary code, even if not "new" generated code but rather line-by-line...
First, thank you for long detailed response.
That is a bit of mix between path1 vs path2, or the purpose of interpreting vs jit. I do think i correctly understand that difference... i hope.
I think what i'm not getting is what exactly is happening in path1, interpreting VM
If we can just...

i agree manufacturs will keep pushing size limits until sales fall off, but i think that limit will be reached at ~4.3inch for simple limitation of being pocketable.
how will you carry around a 5" phone?
Hi,
Thank you for response, but I do not understand this.
By 'results' i do mean the output of path1.
Why do you say 'VM doesn't make machine code' ? If you're running javascript on a intel cpu, at some point the VM has to create instructions that the intel cpu can understand, x86 machine...
I'm reading about browsers and javascript and how improvements in speed have been made. I don't know programming but I was just curious about general idea of how things work.
First, here is my understanding of javascript path. Is it correct?
Traditional/default path:
javascript --> bytecode...
Smartphones have been evolving rapidly but it seems like there isn't much new stuff to add.
After this year, most premium smartphones will have dual camera, hdmi, high res screens.
Aside from regular updates of cpu/gpu/ram, what's left?

* Wireless tv connection.
This is...
