  1. Signed up for Beginners Motorcycle Safety Course

Congrats on the bike. My wife and I did the MSF course here in SF a couple months back and really enjoyed it! Thanks for the details about Moto-Mike's instruction. Seems well-worth it and we'll probably do that before actually buying a bike. What'd you find is the toughest thing about...
  2. '08 Acura TSX: Supercharge?

As an exercise for yourself, I'd price out the options.. probably comparing your car SC'd vs. a TL-S. I'm curious to see which one is cheaper, but I think probably the TL-S? I'm guessing it's pretty close, though. Who knows.. buying/selling a car might just as much hassle as installing the...
  3. '08 Acura TSX: Supercharge?

I supercharged my RSX at about 260whp (7psi) and it's no doubt tons of fun for everyday driving and was just barely faster than 335i's, etc, if you're into that. It's essentially a bolt-on and easily revertable. Look for a used one.. I bought mine used and sold it for the same price 15k miles...
  4. Why Apple is Good for U.S. Economy and Your Job

Yes, successful American companies are good for America, but an import ban to become successful is a little short-sighted, don't you think? What are we, North Korea? If Samsung were poised to crush Apple, the best thing for America would be for Apple to rise to the challenge.
  5. how to remove another car's paint from my car?

I just repaired the same thing on my wife's car (at a smaller scale). Clay bar took out a little bit, a dual action polisher and some light compound took out the rest.
  6. k20 fit Boost or Supercharger?

Depends what you are going for, but my 7psi SC'd K20 makes about 260whp (up from 170whp stock). Stock internals are probably OK at these levels. SC is pretty easy to install as compared to turbo, and you will see similar gains at that boost level. They are also in the same ballpark for cost...
  7. RSX-S 148k miles $6250 good for beater?

The fact that this takes premium really is a small issue when you compare it to a WRX that will get at least 5mpg less on avg. My friend has a 2002 WRX and he gets about 20city/26 hwy (un-modified). My 2003 RSX-S never went below 26mpg on a fillup, and I even hit 35mpg once (before I started...
  8. ATG autox/track videos thread

I'd love having a front diff in the RSX... driving vshah's Si WOT around a corner was a eye-opening FWD experience (not sure if he knows about this...?). lol
  9. ATG autox/track videos thread

From what I've seen, a bone-stock GTI might be considered "slow" due to its weight on the track/autoX, but rarely do I see a stock one. Also, saw a stock R32 at last weekend's autoX. That thing was quick and I can't get over that exhaust note at WOT!
  10. Employed! Moving to SF! General advice, places to live, things to do, and other BS

Don't lose hope! Padmapper rocks - very easy way to find a place. Start looking!
  11. ATG autox/track videos thread

    Here's mine from 2 days ago... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYHk7iZoGF0 Can't wait to go again! *edit.. details* - Camera is GoPro2, suction-cup mounted to the sun-roof. 720p 60fps, "wide" view... I tried re-uploading the original (60fps) - here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_y5UFrsSFQ...
  12. Official Forza 4 Race night thread!

I'll try to make it tonight. Hopefully I don't end up working until midnight like last night.. Got a few S-class RWD cars.
  13. celica VS RSX

Yeah, supercharged RSX is a ton of fun :) For practicality I'd go with the RSX. The utility is outstanding for a small car - I have 2 bikes in the hatch right now no problem. The engine also lasts a very long time if taken care of. My car is doing well at almost 10yrs old. It's just over...
  14. Official Forza 4 Race night thread!

Back when this was going on weekly, we'd play at 9pm EST. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

  16. Cheapest way to use MP3 player in car?

Assuming your FM still works in your CD player.. disassemble the unit, intercept the circuit board trace for the FM line with a switching 3.5mm jack (<$5), drill a hole on the face-plate and mount. Hey, you asked for the cheapest :)
  17. Curb rash no longer

FYI, if you have painted alloys and can find the matched paint, check out this DIY: http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/wheel-repair/wheel-scuff-repair.htm Seems like an easy-medium DIY that will cost you <$30.
  18. Snow tires or Chains?

I'm in upstate NY and used to just run all-seasons, but since last winter I made the switch the snow tires and now thinking of going back is frightening. Done summer tires in snow once and you really have no ability to start, steer, or brake. That said, I don't know anyone that uses chains, or...
  19. Tire choices

Just bought General G-max AS-03's for 2 cars last week and so far so good. I have dedicated summer (for track) and snows (for winter) and wanted a good performance and long lasting tire for the bulk of my driving. The General's were only $109/ea, mounted+balanced, at my local discount tire...
  20. talk to me about debadging and plastidip

  21. talk to me about debadging and plastidip

No idea what plastidip is, but to debadge (assuming it's just stuck on there), you can heat the area with a hairdryer then take floss and "cut" the badge off. There will be some stick residue so you will need to use something like Goo-gone to clean up. The Nissan emblem might have 2 prongs that...
  22. This should be fun: most expensive aftermarket part on your car/bike

I tend to buy a lot of stuff used, but it still kills me every time I look back. Car: 2003 RSX-S TEIN SS-P coilovers (used): $800 K-PRO ECU (new): $900 JR Supercharger (used): $2000 OZ Ultraleggera Wheels w/ Falken Azenis (used): $800 Intake(used)/Header(new)/Exhuast(used): $600 misc...
  23. Is it just me? Subaru BRZ = Enthusiast's dream car

Was just about to post Chris Harris' episode from Drive. Personally, I haven't been so excited for a new car like this in a long time that was actually within my price-range. It has always taken a much more expensive car to get me this excited, like an M3, GT-R, Corvette, etc. I'm at least...
  24. Cars with a professional look at a college price

Coincidentally a new hire I'm training right now (engineer) just bought a 2012 V6 Camaro 6MT. Was shocked at how much car $22k can get you these days.
  25. Cars with a professional look at a college price

Just get what you want and do not let the outside world dictate what you should drive. I am also an engineer and have a lot engineer friends across the country and in general people like to buy cars that they like. Car that engineers like inherently tend to have impressive engineering and are...
  26. We don't need hybrids,.. we need 55MPH! - a long winded ramble.

As many have stated, this all just comes down to science. Physics: net force = engine force - drivetrain loss - wind resistance force = mass*acceleration -> engine force is a function of vehicle+cargo+occupant mass and -> drivetrain loss is a function of drivetrain mass and rpm -> wind...
  27. How can I make my car financing situation work?

Yeah, this is the reality for a lot of people. It sucks. I was fortunate enough to have friends garages/tools when I was starting out.. and now have my own (small) setup. But really, just knowing things about your car without actually working on it yourself can save lots of headaches. I would...
  28. How can I make my car financing situation work?

What kinda car are you running now? Reliability of 200k+ car really depends on the car, maintenance history and your driving style. If none of those areas are weak points.. just keep the car until something catastrophic happens to it. People do this all the time. If uncertainty about car repairs...
  29. Del Sol, what say you?

    This.
  30. Del Sol, what say you?

1995 Del Sol Si (125hp 5MT) was my first car back in high school! Pros: - Great mileage. I was hitting 35mpg+ hwy. As a broke high school student who had to drive 50 miles to the closest movie theater, this was worth it alone. - Great handling. This was made back when Honda made proper cars...
  31. No pics thread? Then tiem.

Great pictures! Here are a couple of mine from last year. Currently running snows. 2003 Supercharged RSX-S w/ supporting mods.
  32. 2013 Ford Fusion

Luxurious styling + impressive engine tech! I'd take this over the latest Camry/Accord's. And that is coming from someone who is part Japanese... Hyundai still not an option :)

Aaaand now you're married. Welcome to the married-in-India club!
  34. Need help choosing fun used car for $8000 Update: I bought it! Picture inside!

If budget is tight - the RSX gets amazing fuel economy compared to WRX/GTI/BMW, and also great fun to drive. Also has one of the most reliable engines. 150k out of the engine is almost a given. Many people go over 200k.
  35. Official Forza 4 Race night thread!

Great racing / car soccer tonight! Supercharged Honda high-five! I supercharged my RSX (daily-driver) a few months back and am loving it

Alkemyst's silver E46 M3 for tomorrow?? :-D (only funny if you browse The Garage forums)
  37. 3M headlight restoration kit

Did this to a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan recently and it worked wonders. Went from yellow-hazed to clear. Was barely getting any light output at night and now the road is clearly visible. Also did this on my cousin's Infiniti G20 (Sentra+) a couple years back with similar results at the time...
  38. Car easter eggs, what's your's got?

Yeah, I got a roots blower with a vacuum controlled bypass valve that redirects air around the blower at < 0psi (cruise around -15 to -10in.Hg). It still baffles me how the vacuum pressure can pull with that much force to open the spring-loaded bypass valve (similar to throttle body). Cool...
  39. Car easter eggs, what's your's got?

Supercharged RSX. Lowering / tuning stock rich fuel map helped increased 1-2mpgs hwy on avg - I cruise under boost. On the flip side, I've gotten it down to 20mpg.. but had to try really hard.
