I think I have just answered my own questions. I have found this connection diagram a reviewer has done. So from the laptop it is just USB-C to USB-C and that it is.
Regarding the sharing of the LAN over USB, if both machines were on and I was using the laptop, would the network remain alive on...
Hi,
I need a bit of help with a Dell monitor I am looking at buying. I now WFH permanently, I need a bigger screen, and I'd like to streamline my personal PC and my work laptop setup.
I'm considering buying the Dell C3422WE monitor which has a built in webcam, speakers and a KVM switch. My...
I think you are right. I had another play with the settings on my Blu-ray player and there is the ability to zoom in (a fixed amount, 2x). This removes the top and bottom letterboxes but chops off some of the sides of the picture. You can move the rectangle so you could view all of the left side...
Hi,
On the back of a typical Blu-ray or DVD it says something like "16 x 9 / 2.4:1".
This suggests you can watch the video in either 16x9 or 2.4:1 format but I can't see any control on my Blu-ray player to switch formats.
Am I misunderstanding what this means? Obviously, I am trying to watch...
Hi,
I would like to buy a new 4K TV and soundbar and I am looking for some help please.
Firstly on the size of the TV, my living room isn't massive. The dimensions are 4.9 x 3.16 metres. The TV will sit in the middle of the 4.9M wall looking straight ahead and I sit 82" away from it. According...
Hi,
I have an Outlook email address and if I sign into that and go to contacts I have 2 contacts there, which is correct.
I recently installed Skype and logged in with my Microsoft account and in my contacts in there are a load of people. I do recognise most of them. Some of them I used to...
I've read more into this and as my Windows SSD only has Windows and programs on it there doesn't seem any need to encrypt it. My second SSD is purely data and I could use Veracrypt to encrypt it with software. Veracrypt would allow me to encrypt it while still full of data meaning I wouldn't...
Hi,
I am (still) on Windows 7 Home Premium and I am preparing to secure erase my Samsung 850 EVO SSD and finally load Windows 10 Home. I did the free upgrade a few years to Windows 10 but I didn't like it at launch so I went back to Windows 7. This means I will be using the Home version of...
Thanks for your reply. I have an i5-4670 with an ASUS H87I-PLUS motherboard. It ran 10 fine years ago so it should be fine now. I do have discrete graphics, a GTX 960 so I presume I'm still best to install the latest driver from nvidia once Windows has finished updating itself?
The media...
Hi,
I am (still) using a genuine retail boxed copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and I am preparing to format and install Windows 10. When 10 was first released Microsoft ran a promotion that you could upgrade to 10 for free if you did it within 12 months. I did that upgrade and ran 10 for a little...
Got you. Looking at the connections on a high end BD player, "audio out" is a HDMI connection and Video out (video/audio out) is a HDMI connection. So to get the lossless audio into the AVR a HDMI cable is used?
And I am presuming the Video out (video/audio out) HDMI connection is so it can...
Thanks. With your posts and some Googling I've started to understand this a bit now. It's a bit of a minefield to be honest. Regarding my Mum's equipment the TV only supports DD/DD+/DD pulse. The TiVo only DD and the soundbase DD and DTS. Basically meaning DD is the only route to go to...
Thanks. I am trying to learn a bit about this as much as getting the setup correct. So currently the TiVo box is outputting Dolby digital to the TV which is converting that to PCM and sending it to the soundbase? If PCM is uncompressed why is it being converted from a lossy compressed format...
Hi,
I don't know a lot about A/V so I am looking for some help on the best way to setup my Mum's TV and sound. She has the following equipment:
Sony KD-43X8305C TV
Virgin Media V6 TiVo box (UK cable TV service)
Panasonic SC-HTE80 soundbase
I have connected the single HDMI port on the cable...
It's not necessary and won't help with performance. There are other benefits though. I choose to run 1 250GB SSD for my OS and apps and 1 larger SSD for my storage. I do this so if I want to reinstall my OS everything becomes easier with not having to move all my data about. I know you can...
This thread is gold and exactly why forums are such an invaluable source of information. My Windows 7 laptop stopped updating a while ago but I didn't know why until I read this thread. I've also got fed up of the nonsense in Windows 10 and reinstalled 7 on my main PC and it updated like a...
For someone with over 12,000 posts you have completely missed the purpose of a community forum on this occasion.
The user has a problem and is asking for help. Whilst they may have written "how do I prove the SSD is bad" I detected that English is not their first language and actually just...
No offense but he/she is asking on a forum for advice prior to contacting the manufacturer.
Pghpooh, this is what you need to do:
1. Does the SSD show in BIOS? If the answer is no the drive is dead and contact Samsung. If yes, carry on.
2. Secure erase the SSD using Samsung's Magician...
Getting a bit fed up of Windows 10. I tamed it quite well prior to the anniversary update but from what I can see it has essentially reinstalled Windows again and reset many things and broke some things which worked fine before.
I do want to get a 4k monitor soon and I did read a while ago...
I really don't understand why everything has gone white. It's well proven that staring at white on a computer screen causes eye strain yet Google, Windows 10, everything is going white just because it looks "clean".
Chrome extension "high contrast" will invert white and boost clarity of texts...
Putting PCB's in an oven (note oven, not microwave :p) to magically bring them back to life has been around for years. It has worked on some PCB's but only when they have a specific issue with the soldering.
"A "dry joint" occurs when the cooling solder is moved, and often occurs because the...
The SSD is toast. Sorry.
Edit: If an SSD doesn't show in BIOS and it is connected directly to the laptop over SATA, there is nothing you can do. The manufacturer can possibly resurrect, but it's beyond the capabilities of the average Jo with normal IT equipment.
Seagate isn't the first manufacturer to do this. I have had to return 2 Dell monitor's over the last 3 years bought from an e-tailer and both times Dell argued the warranty started from the manufactured date on the monitor (making it out of warranty), not the date on my receipt which was months...
I've had another look at his results.
Adarzh, you are running an older version of the 850 EVO firmware. If you look at both our screenshots you are running 01 and I am running 02. I recommend you do the following:
1. In Windows, install or update Samsung SSD Magician to the latest...
Just ran the test again. I don't run RAPID or any other form of RAM caching. I rebooted and shut down/powered on and disabled real-time AV. This installation is now 7 months old.
Full Results
All looks good to me.
No drawbacks at all. 2.5" drives are perfect for mITX builds. If you benchmarked a 3.5" HDD vs a 2.5" the 3.5" will probably come out on top but you won't notice the difference in real world usage.
Just for the record, the G2 and 320 series 8MB bug was never fully eradicated. I remember reading forum posts at the time from people who owned a 320 who were still getting the problem after the final firmware.
My Book uses Green/Blue drives because those drives are specifically designed for the purpose of backing up and storing large volumes of data. Using a higher performance Black drive for backup purposes is overkill.
You are correct about the encryption system, however as this is a backup, if...
Either I am missing something or you're trying to do something you don't need to.
Are you just going to plug in this drive over USB3, backup your data, remove it and hide it away again? If so, why does it need to be cooled? Why not just buy a WD My Book or WD My Passport Ultra?
