Anyone from Austin?

Scubasteve: Here in KC the "bad" areas kind of run in patches. There are several places where ghetto will be right next to really nice neighborhoods. Lots of places where good vs bad is a block for block basis (excluding the suburbs which is all bad) :). Is east Austin anything like this?

Motherboard issue - 2nd opinion needed

Being a user of Rhapsody it has one serious benefit over Itunes. With Rhapsody you can listen to ANY album in it's entirity, streamed, that is in their database. No 30 second clip crap to see if you like a song .. listen to the whole song or the whole album before you buy.

IBM drive toast?

This morning I woke up to my IBM hard drive making the "click of death" sound. The machine will not boot into XP at all. Since it's a hardware failure, is it still possible to recover the data off this drive without sending it to a pro recovery $hop? Thanks, -NB

iPod question...

I just bought a 20GB Ipod a week ago and love it. BLuntman is correct. The 20 & 40GB ipods come with the docking station, remote, ac adapter, headphones, and Firewire cable. You have to purchase the USB 2.0/Firewire combo cable seperately. I think it's like $20 from Apple.com

Even though the drive is an older external SCSI, it should still be faster than 12/16MB read times shouldn't it? Write times are like 4MB / sec. I did check out the threads at storage review. Seems some people fixed it with changing the drive to a Dynamic disk (didn't work for me)...

Title pretty much sums it up. I have an external IBM 7200 rpm SCSI drive hooked up to an ATTO ExpressPCI-DC SCSI card. Under drive benchmark the SCSI drive is transferring around 12-16MB / sec tops. MY IDE drives are hitting around 40MB/Sec. What gives? I ran across the M$ posts about XP...

yea. I checked the fan and it's spinning fine. I was concerned about heat as well so I did remove the side of my case. Still did it. So far I haven't had the problem after downgrading to the 4345 drivers...yet.

sharing roadrunner connection?

You don't have to do this. I've had RR for over a year and been sharing 3 machines on a single IP through a hub. They don't really care (at least where I live they don't) unless you're trying to run a webserver or something and use up a lot of bandwidth.
