Gigabyte have released a new Beta BIOS for my board with the new GUI (similar to Conroe's post above) that has the speedshift option available and Kabylake support.
It's good to see Gigabyte stepping up and adding this feature to Z170 boards with the new F20 BIOS.
HWP or Hardware Performance States (AKA SST or SpeedShift Technology) is only supported in Windows 10 1511 (Build 10586) and later.
It is not enabled unless the PC/device has HWP/SST enabled in the UEFI.
Sometimes there is no visible option to turn HWP/SST on/off in the UEFI, such as with many...
Well it was surprisingly easy to enable SST (HWP) in the BIOS, although there is no option to turn it off once enabled, so I can only use Windows 10 (Build 10586 or later) or Linux (no big deal for me).
This is the setting I modified in my BIOS using AMIBCP v5.02.0023 (picture shows SuperJaw's...
I requested it - thanks for uploading it.
It is different from the F5g Beta BIOS that is publicly available at Tweaktown.
I will see what I can do...
[Edit] 17 modules are different, will need some time to examine the changes properly.
I just want to add something else interesting that I found out.
I have a 2nd system with an i3 6320 and Windows 10 x64 1607 (Build 14393) overclocked using a non-k OC BIOS to take it up to 4.6 GHz.
I have HWinfo monitoring the CPU socket temperature and with SST enabled the idle CPU...
Here is a photo from a modded BIOS (AMI Aptio V) of a CLEVO P870DM-G Laptop showing Speed Shift Technology "Enabled" ;
Apparently HWP (AKA Speed Shift) is enabled on many MSI motherboards by default, such as the MSI Z170I GAMING PRO, MSI Z170A GAMING M7 & MSI Z170A GAMING M5.
Asus and...
Hi tincmulc, the batch file seems to work with task scheduler, I had to set another trigger to run the batch file when the computer is unlocked after coming out of sleep.
I will see how it goes, thanks!
I have also enabled SST in Windows 10 (Build 10586) by editing the corresponding CPU machine state register (MSR).
However, the MSR returns to default (SST disabled) after a reboot or putting the PC to sleep (hence needing BIOS support).
Anyone with some programming skills could make an app...
Would you be able to upload this BIOS somewhere?
If I can find out what was changed in the BIOS I may be able to enable SST for other motherboard models.
I have read this thread a few times in the past (some very good info) and was finally prompted to register with the forum to share a link to an article with LLC testing with an oscilloscope,
'Load Line Calibration and You'.
*Warning - article spoiler below*
Also, some of the comments after...
