Canon S230. I have the Canon S330, and bought my mom the Canon S200 for xmas this year, and really like them both (gotta clean the finger prints off the S200 now hehe). If the S230 was out, I would have probably got that instead of my S330, but I do like the 3x optical zoom/2mp combo better...

Best 18 or 19 inch LCD - whats your reccomendation?

I wouldn't suggest ViewSonic or SONY for an LCD ... it's all about Samsung or Eizo! (or dell rebadged samsungs) and NEC/Mitsubishi.

Is DVI important in a LCD?

A few thoughts. First, I would strongly consider a different LCD than a Sony. Yes, Sony does make fantastic CRTs (I'm using a Dell 21" with a Trinitron tube!), but their LCDs are not at the top really. I'd put Samsung at the top of the LCD pyramid and maybe NEC/Mitsubishi... Look for an LCD...

LCD + gaming = okay?

I totally agree with NFS4 for once - don't let the specs decide it for you - actually spend 8 hours in front of your CRT, then 8 hours in front of an LCD (because an LCD does take a little getting used to), then tell me which one gives you less of a headache... And I think Kingofcomputer has...

Do not get a the KDS you mention. Many of the NECs are better monitors for $10-20 more, and if you do a Dell deal, you can get the 1504FP UltraSharp for about $360. I haven't seen a nicer looking 15" LCD for under $400... And if price is the main consideration the other Dell 151 LCD is under...

Has anyone switched from 19" CRT to 15" LCD?

Has anyone switched from 19" CRT to 15" LCD?

Who makes the Dell 1702FP Ultrasharp 17in?

I read over in "the ArsTechnica LCD thread" it's a Samsung panel. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this with a link. I'm also curious who makes the Dell UltraSharp 15" LCD, as I just ordered one for my office (the 19" Priceton CRT gives me a migraine about once a month :( )

ASUS Does Hyper Threading...

P4T533 is a different board (32bit RDRAM) P4TE / P4T533-C are pretty close relatives. Also note your BIOS version is different than the one stated. All that said, here's hoping our boards (P4TE/P4T533-C) will get a BIOS update to support future P4s with HyperThreading enabled!

definitely stick with 60hz, you should get better color (on the 151S i use, at least). next, be sure you run 1024x768, and you will probably want to enable TrueType if you're running windows XP.

Any final verdicts - Dell 2000FP versus 19" Planar

I dunno... both the dell and the planar use an MVA style panel, and both have "thicker" style benzels; I think the planar's case and branding looks a lot better than the dell, and I think the 19" planar is an incredible value. I think I'd much rather have the 2 planars running at 1280x1024 if...

The black 19" Planar arrived... I'm impressed. The screen isn't quite as evenly back lit as say, the Samsung 151S, but it is a much bigger too. The viewing angle is pretty darn nice, colors are okay (blacks are VERY black; other colors are slightly unnatural, even moreso than the Samsung)...

re: sony ...because they tend to use LG Philips panels which leave a lot to be desired... Sony makes good monitors (check my sig ;) but I wouldn't buy their LCD unless "brand name" was the main factor. Samsung is sort of 'king' in my mind in the LCD world... I really dig the Samsung 151S

HELP with a WinXP install

First, you'll probably want to avoid asking software questions in General Hardware ... :) Next be sure your cables to your IDE devices are set correctly - you should be able to read off the CD or at least see a HD without any problems with an XP install... check cables and master/slave...

CDex - uses LAME codec - see r3mix.net for more info :) Free - Open source - fast - easy You might need to go to adaptec.com and download the latest ASPIs(?) nord1899 has a great alternative for LOTS of cd ripping.
