I sent two video cards to MSI. They only asked for the serial number, nothing else. They don't care if you're the original owner or not (RMA is very quick too, received the card back less than 10 days later, on both occasions).
Just call them and explain you have a crack on the plastic shroud...
Lies. It was virtually impossible to buy a 7970 for the first days.
Heck, I added 300 Sapphire 7970 cards to my cart on launch day from Newegg just to see what's the stock like. 2 hours later, I could only add about 20.

If you're buying used, stick to MSI / Asus. They have a serial-based warranty, so if any problems occur with the card, they're not going to ask you for an invoice.

I honestly don't get all the whine about drivers. I had both nV and ATi for years, and never had an issue with either.
It will take you about a month to generate a coin with your 5450.
If you don't already own the hardware, there's no reason to get into mining at this point.
Difficulty needs to go way down, or price needs to go way up in order for it to be profitable.

If you don't game a lot, and all you're going to play is the coming star wars, then stay with the 6850, you'll be fine, even at that res. 6850 is no slouch.
Honestly, your current system is capable of doing all those tasks easily, I doubt you'll notice any difference with the 631.
Get an SSD now instead, and install your OS on it. Your system will be more snappier and you'll notice a bigger difference.
