Core 2 Quad on Intel DG33FB mobo possible?

Thanks for that. I didn't really trust that link much, seeing how it listed C2Q CPUs that have a TDP > 95W (eg Q6700 with a big 'Fully compatible' tick) as being compatible with the board; thus the question. The plan is to get a second hand one as the prices of these are still to high for me.

Well I did look through it a couple of times but I'm not sure what you're referring to! :) I did spot the Quad Core Xeons (X3230 esp.) that seem to fit the bill. But I don't know if I can get these anywhere any more...

Hmm one last suggestion, your mobo supports SATA II (3 Gbps) but I'm guessing your drives (SSD and/ or HDD) MAY be SATA III (6 Gbps)... While SATA II/ III are supposed to be compatible I've heard of exceptions to this rule... The rear of the drives should have a jumper config to set them at...

Possibly a silly question, but I can't see your proposed system specs so, have you checked that you need 750W and the wide range and number of power connectors available on the shortlisted PSUs?

Hmm sound advice but seems like a lot of work! I thought I'd check hdparm first to see if it reports physical sector size of 4K (as some of the new EARS drives do) but it doesn't. Instead it doesn't report the physical size at all so the system works it out to be 512b based on number of sectors...
