I think it's worth for an avid reader (translate: buyer) who has amazon prime to try out kindle. If amazon successfully switch that kind of folks, chances are they'd get more income from them. This is on a basic presumption that kindle books are at higher margins compare to a physical books...
agree with the comment that it's too big. if you don't move it around, then it's not a problem. it's 17", don't expect to put it on your lap and work like the 14 that you have.
simple economics. if it's too cheap, everyone will do it and just pay the fine.
Now that you know that it's expensive, would you dare to double park again?
