Worth upgrading CF HD6870 1GB cards?

For 1920x1080 your CPU is fine. I'd sell those and get a single card. But that depends on what you can get for them.

Are HD5870 crossfired enough to play games on 3x 2560x1440 Samsung SA850s?

Try running your monitors at 1920x1080 with your current cards and come back with your opinion. Try more resolutions. IMO 1080p is good even for 27" monitors with 3 monitors you don't sit close anyway. Then you can get two HD 7950/70 3GB and call it a day. You will be able to run some games on...

Apparently Perf/Watt matters only for some parts in your PC and not at all for others. If the part is made by AMD, the Perf/Watt matters if it's bad and it doesn't matter if it's good. If the part is made by Intel/Nvidia, the Perf/Watt matters if it's good and it doesn't matter if it's bad.

One should never base his review conclusions on the pricing (like AT and others), tomorrow AMD could shave some $$ from the price and what's left from your conclusions? Take a look at AT's final page (named "Final Words"), any new pricing would make useless half of it. Same for the conclusions...

The upgrade bug: zr30w or Dell u2711 + next gen videocard

If you don't need to be able to watch the TV from any corner of your room (you have a couch or something) you can get a cheap 27". For the video card I would wait 2-3 weeks for the HD 7870 (~$300 in the US, ~$400 in Europe) that card will be very powerful and very good bang for the buck...

You can get a stopgap card like the HD 6870 -very good bang for the buck- and in a few months when the new 28nm series from both manufacturers are out, sell it and get a new one. The 6870 will cost you some $150 AR, can run any game on ultra or high and you will get to use it for a few months...

I would get a cheap HD 6870 for the best bang for the buck and in a year or so sell it and get a new card. You will easily sell that for $100 and you get to game for a year for $80 - the difference. Then, after both AMD and Nvidia come up with their new line and the prices go down, get a 28nm...
